I just went to follow these tips - and I found out by accident that "Orange Agent" cleaner does a really good quick job as opposed to an overnight caustic soda bath. That was only for the stinger cap end tho - it would need a lot of it for a full exhaust.
Hey John, thanks heaps for tuning in and. watching the video. The lanolin is good for short term, but is still to light for longer storage. try using oil or trans fluid on both for better protection
Never tried the fire idea. I may chuck the pipe on the BBQ. After a caustic soda bath for a few days I like to paint the outside of the pipe with rust converter (phosphoric acid), wash it off, and then buff it with a wire wheel. Comes up real pretty.
Great Video. HOWEVER... I can confirm, DO NOT soak the 3mm aluminium spacer that comes with the latest X30 Iame Exhaust! The Spacer is alloy, the caustic soda disolves this. Everything else can be chucked in without a worry though, the caustic soda works very well loosening the carbon off.
have t2o pipes and keep one in your kit that is clean and ready to dominate, then put it on when you have an important race to win. then clean the other one one so she's ready next time you need some extra ponies !!!
yeah it will clean them, however if you are not burning any oil I wouldn't think it would have a lot of build up. if it does, soak them in caustic soda and they will be brand new
Hey des, thanks for the idea! I got two questions tough: - i guess it applies for x30 new exhaust line? - doesn’t caustic attack the metall? Especially when you use it over such a long time? Thank you 🙏
I race go karts and I use a iame x30. I've been hearing a lot lately that before doing a rolling start in competition most drivers squeeze the fuel line. Can you please do a video on this explaining how to do it properly and whats the reasoning behind it. thank you
No I think not as it is addding something to the engine package. Just sand them with emery paper or scotchbrit and then use some flax seed oil on it and heat it up.
@@PowerRepublic Love you channel, BUT that is not a ration. Do you mean 2 tablespoons per liter? We still use the kings gallons over here in the USA so it I just want to be clear.
great question, the Rotax doesn't carbon up as much cause we use synthetic oils and only 20ml's of oil per litre of fuel. but on the EVO exhaust you can detect the stinger and soak the body of the pipe. then just change the exhaust wrap matting and you are good to go
@@PowerRepublic I use a small wire drill brush on a long rod to clean the inside of the max exhaust of any remaining cack after removing the matting. Also makes it easier to get the new matting back in. Surprising how much stuff comes out.
Thanks for these tips. I soaked it in a tub of caustic soda for 3 days and seems to have cleaned all the internals out but I still have the rusty exterior finish. How do I remove that to get it back to bare metal finish like new?
Hi .ive got one of those exhausts for a 100cc 2t kart and would like to try fitting it to my Suzuki 80cc classic RG ..do u think it mite work ? Or would i have to modify it in some way to suit 80cc?
Hey I've been looking to buy myself a go kart just for open track days and that type of stuff and I was wondering if its important to have alot of technical knowledge to maintain a go kart like knowing how to fix engines and stuff. I saw you video about how to clean go karts and it was quite helpful. I'm just curious about the most important things you need to know to maintain a go kart.
Can you help explain the caustic soda and where to buy? Most results i find come back to like drain cleaner. I don’t see pure caustic soda over the counter here in the US
@@PowerRepublic yeah, in rotax exhaust... there's a matt inside that should be replaced every X hours, but to be honest, haven't idea what's the difference on dyno between brand new matt and old, used one - maybe older = better (more power)? Do you know @powerrepublic?
Do you need to do this much for the rotax evo exhausts too? I clean the inside of mine when l change the matting after every 5 races. But don't great it up or soak it?
Poor advice imo. Using hot air gun works much better. Hammering a screwdriver is just revolting...but using the rounded end looks even bad. Wearing a wrist watch when working on an engine exhaust is not the best idea. No spray can keep exhaust clean as new...
My gokart has been running for years and not once have I thought to check to exhaust flow.. Mine will be getting a good clean tonight!
got on it, Free Horsies coming your way tomorrow !!!!!
Excellent! I was just looking to find a video for this exact video, awesome to watch another banger from a great channel!
Thanks Nick, being all bangers here at the House of POWER in 2023 !!!

Awesome thanks Des
Any time legend
There's an American product called Fluid Film that it based on lanolin and also works very well to resist the rust on the exhaust and the axle
Hey John, thanks heaps for tuning in and. watching the video. The lanolin is good for short term, but is still to light for longer storage. try using oil or trans fluid on both for better protection

Bought some older TAG Karts and cleaned my exhaust out via a bonfire last week. OMG it was loaded with stuff.

Great information, thanks! Do you soak the entire exhaust pipe in the caustic soda, too?
I didn't for the video, but yeah you can do,
How often should you do it? Does it clean exterior as well?

Do you have any advice for the Rotax exhausts?
Send it
Great Video Des - could you do one for Rotax exhausts? or is it just the matting the matting?
Change the matting broski, the Rotax doesn’t clog up that much
What effect does new matting have against old..?? Thanks 👍
does this work for 4 stroke exhausts such as briggs
yeah it will clean them, however if you are not burning any oil I wouldn't think it would have a lot of build up. if it does, soak them in caustic soda and they will be brand new

Hey Des, how do you dispose the caustic soda solution?
evaportation or toxic waste disposal is best
Lanolin for the win..!!
bro, you're RUclips famous bro!!
That last pipe in the shot was a new one though. It had me fooled for a second
if you sand them back after you soak them, then lanolin them they come up brand new

Hey Marcus, sure can thanks heaps for the suggestion
Pitching the fuel line restricts fuel flow causing a lean mixture and a HP boost
Can you also clean the junior restricted can type muffler with this method in the costic soda?
Yes you can!
Hey Des, Do the regs in Australia allow you to paint it? Can't find any specific info on it.
No I think not as it is addding something to the engine package. Just sand them with emery paper or scotchbrit and then use some flax seed oil on it and heat it up.
definitely not as it changes the tuned length of the pipe.
Hey man I am having a lot of trouble getting the silencer off of the end of my exhaust, its a ROK GP. Any tips?
yeah use a screwdriver. and hammer to lightly tap it off. also could use some heat to Make the end cap grow and come off easier.
what was the spray in the blue can that preserves the cleaned steel?
Lanolin
What ratio did you mix the Caustic soda? thanks
The box says 2 table spoons, but I just poured it in by eye 👍

Where you cleaned the end of the pipe with the drill if i dont have rules will it run better if i take that screen out of that tip of the stinger ?
Well you made me feel good about my pipe its like new compaired to your 😂
Does it work on rotax ?
can do, if its blocked, but rotax is normally okay

No need, casue the synthetic oil burns clean and there is less carbon build up in Rotax

yeah it takes a while, but check it out !
Roughly how much lap time is this process worth with a ka100?
