Warning to all aspiring artists: do NOT skip this exercise! This is my 2nd try on Stan's courses (I was kinda impatient the first time) and in a few days I've noticed my lines have become more purposeful and meaningful. Thanks, Stan! You're the man!
It's a Proko original. Lean Alvesan (awesome zbrush sculptor) joined my team recently and we're working on adding muscles to this skeleton for the upcoming anatomy series!
Thank you so much Proko! My figure drawing skills have greatly improved because of your videos. I'm taking life drawing at school, and I'm very grateful to have this knowledge of figure drawing already, when we haven't even started a single lesson on it yet. God bless you!
I agree - it's a fantastic idea but when u r confronted with a live model in a class, it's like....WTF? Even so, it's a great idea and worth practicing.
♦️ I've been watching all your videos again and again for 3 years now. The first 2 and a half years (I was not that focused on learning fast and serious). Now for the other half I finally had the determination to study everything (I'm applying for an animation degree from a scholarship with my art portfolio). Previously I just learned everything in a day. Now I'm focusing on the rib cage and arm bones and muscles for 2 weeks until I finally get it, then I will move on to a different muscle and bone so I can fully focus on learning it. Actually I compared my work from the past weeks to today and I was surprised at how much I have improved. Thank you. I still have 3 months for my art portfolio.
Yup that's coming in about 2 weeks! Some people call it Mannequinization. Basically adding neck, head, arms and legs to the robo bean. Could you specify what you have trouble with when you try to add the limbs? I'll try to cover it in the video. In fact everyone.. Let me know what you struggle with most when you mannequinize the figure (simplifying it into spheres, cubes, cylinders)
Thanks Proko! I'm using the tools you used to understand the twist and the bean more, which I put two balls in a sock and tied a knot at the top for the base of the head. It actually really helps me visualise the simplified form a lot more plus I can treat it like a life drawing class. I do this with a rag and a black line for the twist like what you used.
Ive been following your videos since the beginning, thank u so much for all the time and effort u put into them, i have learned so much and keep learning more from you. Please keep uploading :)
Thanks for your videos, Proko; they are wonderful. Just a minor point though; I think the posterior landmark of the hip bone - to define the hip box - could not be PSIS. the connecting line between the ASIS and PSIS has an angle downward, or may be a straight line; I may be wrong though, but this is my observation from 'Albinus on Anatomy"
Proko, your videos are amazing. Thank you soooooooo much for making them. Your teaching style is funn and so well explained. Im from canarias and you help me a lot!!!!
Your videos are great, and your teaching style is very clear and effective. They are teaching me like everything I want to know, and I'm curious about your animations, do you create everything yourself? The toy sequence was awesome and I re-watched it a few times
Can't wait for foreshortening. I hope when you get to it, you go into a little more details than others. Hopefully utilizing other forms of perspective than the basic 1,2, and 3 point (4 and 5 point) and drawing the figure in them
Thank you for the wonderful lesson's, they help remind me of all the tips & tricks to being an artist. You are pretty silly to which helps keep me entertained while I learn, keep them coming thanks again.
I cannot tell you how much I love you and your videos, thanks so much for doing them XD And since you asked on a previous comment: I have problems too with the head, I seem to make it too small or too big compared to the rest of the body when I do gestures. Also, I seem to make the ribcage and pelvis too far away from each other. The 'fun stuff space' is always too big LOL Thanks again, you're such a good teacher XD
Here's a quick tip for hands: Draw a "D" shape for the palm, then draw *the thumb and index finger first*. Once you've got the relationship of those two digits more or less right, the other fingers are much easier.
I was actually thinking of skipping past the bean and going here. Though I believe it would've worked out, studying the bean still made it easier to understand robo bean lol.
Pop goes the gluteus! Thanks for clearing up the confusion surrounding the twist. And maybe this question is better suited to the next video, but I noticed that at 06:37 you distorted the upper box considerably to show the the twist. Should we be thinking of these boxes as hard solids or is distorting them this way OK if it serves a purpose (such as showing movement)?
Thanks for doing this amazing series Proko. I have one question, have you ever read the anatomy books of Burne Hogarth? He explain the same kind of technique with the 2 boxes. For some reason i always struggled to that phase... Anyway good video!
I'd highly recommend "Drawing the Head and Figure by Jack Hamm. It has a short but excellent section on drapery and is dirt cheap on Amazon (I got it for 4$). In fact it's the most useful drawing book I've ever seen.
Thanks by your useful videos. I want to comment some probably mistake about the second draw in this video, minute 1:10, you drawed it with the right shoulder up, but I think this woman has the left shoulder highest. Am I right?
This is a cool guide :). if you dont mind, could you able the option of spanish subtitles ? Don't feel guilty if you can not. Because I live in mexico and im sure there are people in this country who wants to learn to draw better the human body. I watch your videos because im a person who love to draw anime. Thanks for create this channel, its really helpful to me :).
If you're struggling with the robo bean I've included additional examples in the premium course for you to study - proko.com/f1g437a

It's a Proko original. Lean Alvesan (awesome zbrush sculptor) joined my team recently and we're working on adding muscles to this skeleton for the upcoming anatomy series!
Proko is a cool dude, he' really has a good sense of humor when it comes to this along with knowlege of realisim based on organic drawing that works.

Thank you so much Proko! My figure drawing skills have greatly improved because of your videos. I'm taking life drawing at school, and I'm very grateful to have this knowledge of figure drawing already, when we haven't even started a single lesson on it yet. God bless you!
Damn... Drawing this robo-bastard correctly is really much more difficult than it seems...
Rafał Szczechowski I find it easier in some ways than the bean. Because of the twisting.
I agree - it's a fantastic idea but when u r confronted with a live model in a class, it's like....WTF? Even so, it's a great idea and worth practicing.
I actually find it easier than drawing the bean.
The key with this style, I think is to be loose with it like it's your template to your real drawing.
I can relate.... SO MUCH!!!!
Finished Drawabox lesson one and now I can actually draw the boxes required for this kind of exercise, feels good man.
How'd that go?
Hahaaaa, you mean... DA CHALLENGE.
@Proko, Wow!, with videos like these who needs art school.
You're so cute Proko! I'm so glad I discovered these videos. I can't click, I'm watching the videos on my iPad.
