Ali Mousavi yea man you will encounter that a lot at Sebastian but you just gotta know how to walk with your fish and know when to go over and under your line to avoid tangles lol
Exactly why I'll never fish the Pier of the inlet. Too many incompetents perfectly willing to cross lines, hook you on the cast etc. I get just as many big hook ups (and more elbow room) on the beach. There's a huge reason why Goliaths are protected. Because way to many Anglers are woefully ignorant of moderate conservation and would just assume wipe em all out.
I agree there's a healthy population of them, and they can be fish stealers, but I'd like to see them do what they can to maintain the current population, because it seems like about ten years ago the Goliaths learned that they could snack out on invasive Lionfish. I think how they suck them in without biting keeps them from getting stuck by the poisonous fins. At any rate, I used to kill about three Lionfish per lobster diving day with my tickle stick after netting them... but since the Goliaths' population exploded back to healthy levels, I have not seen even one Lionfish while diving off of Stuart. In fact, the single Lionfish that we have seen in the last five years was one we caught on a lure in 135 feet... which is a bit deep for Goliaths.
Bob H yea my father told me how he was reading an article about a diver seeing multiple dead gag groupers on the bottom of the sea floor one time. He than realized that it was the Goliath groupers killing them!👎What a waste hahaha at least eat the fish!😂 So yea it doesn’t surprise me they were killing them! Lol
That would surprise me if they were what actually killed the Gags, because Goliaths aren't typically biters, they're "inhalers". Sounds like it MIGHT have even been propaganda, by a diver who wanted to be allowed to shoot Goliaths. My grandmother, in the early days of Scuba, actually interviewed a diver she considered credible in the Keys who had been inhaled as far as the start of his tank by a big one, and he had to jab it in the gills with his dive knife to get it to spit his head out of its mouth... and, well, it didn't kill HIM (for what THAT is worth). Interestingly enough, in videos of our artificial reefs, you can see a cloud of baitfish tightly surrounding a lot of the Goliaths. My theory on why this happens is that the adult Goliaths know that if they try to flare their gills to "inhale" the baitfish, the baitfish are small enough that they will just get sucked out between the gillrakers as the gills flare out, instead of going down the Goliaths' throats. And the baitfish "know" that the same is not true for gamefish that could feed on them, which therefore have to keep their distance from the Goliaths (and the cloud of bait around them). (Lionfish, on the other hand, though often as small as baitfish, have big cumbersome fins that probably prevent them from shooting out between the Goliaths' gillrakers, thus allowing the Goliaths to successfully inhale 'em.)
By the way. I live in Pompano Beach. I've lived here for 52 years. Moved here when I was 10 year's old. I could jump on my bike . Go to the intercoastal with a big mullet I'd snagged cut it into chunks and catch 4 or 5 snappers enuff for a family meal. Now there's nothing there.......so sad

Getting worked by the babies lmfao. But they should start a lottery system on them. Put out a couple hundred tags a year for fish between 100-300 lbs or close within reason.

I see this a million times...fight a big fish for hours,,,doing everything right ,,then the fish gets a second breath ,,,and always if your not thinking you instantly either grab the spool, or the line ,,, NEVER TOUCH THEM ,,, that fish ran and he grabbed the line with his thumb to try and stop it ,,,, bad bad bad move ,,,, but your not alone ... watch the videos on here of the big ones that get away , and 90% of the time the guy grabbed the spool or the line ... even if you think you didn't touch it much,,,, you touched it to much .... the guy that set him up knows what hes doing and im sure he has that drag set right close to the limit,,, that little bit extra was what lost that fish
They're just as thick in the Gulf too. It's WAY past time for the FWC to open it up. These giant vacuum cleaners make it impossible to fish a lot of wrecks and reefs.
Nice fish an video. Try putting a long top shot of 400 lb. Will help with bigger fish an helps with not breaking them off. Also they are debating on opening a season for Goliath groupers.
big bruce thanks and yea I actually just changed my line to 250lb main and I’m putting 500lb leader on. I’m trying to catch moby dick!😂 and I really hope they have a season for them🙏
big bruce I did not know that! Thanks for the heads up!👍 I might have to beach them next time and remove the hook while the fish is still in the water if I can manage to get him that far!
For popping 500 pound test line maybe a tugboat LOL. We usually use a hook without a barb. If we use one with a barb we walk it to the beach. It's a little bit harder with no Barb but once you get it to the top you just bounce the line up and down and it should pop out.
Just hook up to your truck bumper and fight it for a while , just as much fun and you don't get in anybody's way and you don't have more fish trailing line with mouths full of hooks
I'm a life long fisherman and I just can't see the point of catching the fish, stressing it out just to put it back. Why not leave it alone until it's legal to keep one?????
@@PoweryFishing Gotcha. I was just reading the FWC About prohibited Species and that was the first fish on the list about being unlawful to harvest, possess, land, yadda yadda yadda.
