Being caucasian and the father of 3 bi-racial girls I have seen allsorts of racism and whispers and heard evil stuff.Mixed families exist and will always exist.People need to understand that love has no colour except the red of your heart.I adore my wife of 14 years and worship my girls and plan on loving her to the day i die and hope to have a son soon.peace
RAP/CRAP SUCKS/BRUH/SHIT SKIN ASSASSIN Bruh calm down. So full of hate and negativity. Like seriously, i'm not trying to offended you, but you are really negative. Please just cal down a little. Not everything is evil and full of hate.
I'm not going to even bother reading any below comments because I'm sure it's a bunch of back and forth racial non sense. Which is unfortunate because the fact of the matter is...families like this exist EVERYWHERE! Another fact is, it's not just black and white but a lot of different mixing of backgrounds and it's going to continue happening. So, on that note...I'm going to see this movie because it looks like a good story (period).
To your point, I think this movie would be a lot more interesting if they had chosen two different races, or swapped out one of them. Any combination would be better than this. Of course, then they'd have to change the title :p
This looks to be a GREAT movie. This happens more than people know. More and more grandparents are raising their grandkids, black, white, or both. Kevin Costner and Octavia Spencer are both magnificent actors.
Neither of these actors need money. They chose to make this movie because they believe in it. Knowing full well the state of unrest our nation is in. This movie is original, it is what this country is going through.
I watched the movie and it's just how white/black people should be towards one another. This man wasn't racist, yes he noticed there was a difference in their races but it wasn't derogatorytowards black people as a whole. It also shows how most black people know how to show empathy without so much of an effort as others.. The financial state of the fictional characters doesn't bother me one bit because it's usually how things actually are.. sorry if the truth makes you mad.
Excellent movie ! I loved the way it directly walked into racial politics, & didn't shy away. Good people with different view points, Good people making mistakes, & trying to do the right thing.
Best line of this movie was “Yes my first thought is that he’s a black man. But what matters is my second thought. And the thoughts after that” Maaaay Be paraphrasing a bit cause I saw this movie like, 5 years ago but still
No. I thinks she meant that he's not any better. Though to be honest, trailers put together quotes and makes a conversation that never happens in the film, so they might not even say that to each other,
Well, I understand that its a movie but in real life it can be that way and especially when you are not accustomed to doing african american hair type which are not just wavy but also can be tightly coiled.
since im a white mother with a moroccan african child.. believe me.. my daughters people on her dads side are VERY much warm.. funny and lots of them.. kevin reminds me of my moms family.. believe me I will EMBRACE this movie... unless you straddle both worlds.. this wont make a tons of sense.. but to me it does big time!
Lol 😂 😂 right. Some Americans are miserable and suffering from identity problems especially if they are born there with no history of my grand parents or dad is from isreland, Italy, Jamaica, Trinidad, Holland, Japan, etc..... those people are more miserable, they have no where to go.
I'm black and white I can read relate to this story... But I'm not even gonna look at the rest of the comments cuz there most likly bout which race is better or worse .... But reality is skin isn't nothing but a color u all are human no ones better
You don't put it out in public, you type on your hatred on your key boards and smile in my face in public, most can't even look my in the eye. British are more open minded and Australians don't tolerate that racial bs
This movie has sparked emotions, as intended. Good job Kevin Costner! Portland Oregon applauds and supports Kevin and his movie. As a liberal and democratic state, this is our life.
Um this is a movie about a Grandfather's unconditional love for his granddaughter and him fighting to keep her because he's lost everyone around him except Eloise ❤️😍 looks like a tear jerker too
"this isn't about black or white. This is about Eloise". Exactly so stop making everything about race. I knew there was a reason I never heard of this movie and it's been out for 7 years.
I am white and happen to have 4 girls who happen to be half American Indian. I never looked at them as half Indian, they were just my loved children.People get the chip off your shoulders.
This was an excellent movie. Kevin Costner had problems getting it made so he funded it himself. But it was really good and thought-provoking. Rent it if you can.
This looks like such a great movie. Those who are not prejudice will totally love this... Thank you Steve Harvey for your show today about this movie...
I loved this movie. I couldn't stand the lawyer but u loved Costner's monologue towards the end. He speaks of truths that others are afraid to speak of. This is an excellent movie.
How to make a successful movie/book/RUclips video/song/whatever: 1. Pick a controversial issue. Race, sexual orientation, religion, etc. The more controversial the better. 2. Get people to react to it. It doesn't matter who's right or wrong, so long as the masses are losing their shit and consuming your product. 3. Profit.
I loved this movie but was kinda mad when her grandma refused to see her own son for what he was, a junkie. Like I completely get wanted one of her grandchildren close to her but you shouldn’t put take a kid out of a better environment just for that. Like she had a good school, and a good family looking after her who she loved. I just couldn’t understand. I’m just glad she opened her eyes before it was too late.
Although I see what they're trying to do here, it's just a shame this movie plays on so many stereotypes to make a quick buck, it doesn't help us grow as a country it just solidifies the ideology that race is still so important.
Oh my god I'm white and you're black and that causes so many problems but we'll work together and learn from each other and everything will be perfect. Yaaaaaaay!!!
Seems like deaths are also what throws a wrench in the machine, in this movie. I know in real life, it's usually the people who came together to make the mixed child, that joins the families harmoniously. Without that bridge, I imagine it's more difficult. Still a cheesy concept, but could be a decent movie.
@akelly929 No. You can really think that you love someone, and things still just don't work out. Love isn't enough. Like when you're pregnant with nothing but the clothes on your back, and no one to take care of you. Love isn't enough. You have to also be responsible. Same with choosing your spouse. You can't just love them. They have to fit the bill for being something long-term. And you have to also have yourself together, and be sure that your love for a person isn't influenced by trauma.
Just watched this on Netflix. It was pretty good, predictable, but I didn't fall asleep. It does pretty much paint black people in a stereotypical light and doesn't really shed a new light on the subject, but overall it was a good movie and the little girl is adorable.
I just finished watching this movie and I loved it. Kevin Costner and Jillian Estell are great in this beautiful story. Also, I cried about three times :')
You know what bothers me? People knowing that the film is about Black & White, hence the name, but they watch the trailor and comment as if they didn't know that the movie was about race! I think some people come on RUclips for attention and to vent about their personal feelings. I like Kevin Costner and I don't think he'd do a film that would negatively impact his own people. The movie represents a lot of biracial families circumstances. It looks beautiful. I'll support it.
Ok, so, yeah racial tension in the comments, arguing, etc...but no one is going to point out that *Bill Burr is playing it straight in this movie* ?? Are you people daft? lol
I'm white. My girlfriend and her two kids are mixed race South Africans (they self-identify as 'coloured', which always cracks me up). I can honestly say our skin colour rarely gets mentioned, though they do like to tease me for my 'white guy' dancing. They stand out here in Western Australia, which is one of the most white bread places on the planet. Her daughter is in year 7, and gets occasional racial hassles, usually from a stupid kid that has a crush on her and is incapable of actually expressing himself. The boy is 18 and 6ft 1, so he mostly avoids trouble. Oh, and I can confirm Kevin Costner's hair brushing struggles in the trailer above are 100% realistic :-)
I feel for this guy. He just wants the best for his Granddaughter. Especially with her father's track record. He's a wonderful grandfather to her and it would be wrong to take her away. She's perfectly fine with her grandfather. if he father cleaned up his act there'd be no issue
This was a fantastic movie and told the truth, none of this bullsh that Hollywood had been putting out lately. More movies like this (realistic) need to be filmed. Kevin Costner really did a fantastic job with this.
This looks like a very good touching movie. As a Christian white man it's not all about color of the skin no matter what color you are if you're white black tan or yellow. I hate the word racism it's the people that causes racism not the skin of the color of a person. It's people's actions around the world and what they do to one another and also when and some people are not raised without a father or mother figure in their life to teach him certain things and hanging out with the wrong people and not teaching us the right things in life can steer that person it's a bad things in life. Jesus says to love your neighbor as yourself no matter what to always be kind forgiving merciful to always give Grace and forgiveness and to always remember a fruit of the spirit to teach us the fruit of the spirit is love joy peace patience kindness goodness faithfulness gentleness and self-control. I'm going to set a reminder in my phone tomorrow to watch this movie. As a young kid I remember being in a poor neighborhood my mom having to get funds from the government and I remember as a little kid hanging around black people Mexican people Asian. People and seeing different backgrounds. One of my favorite foods I like as Mexican food...✍️✝️🕊️❤️😇
I honestly don't understand racism. Dark people and white people are equals, but no one seems to think that. But what bugs me most is that everyone thinks that every white person is racist, and no, that is NOT the case. I am white and one of my best friends is Asian and I love her to pieces. Another one of my best friends are black and she's absolutely amazing. I don't understand why someone is judged by their skin tone, when in all reality, they can't control their race.
that's bullshit. unless your visually impaired, of course, you do! and there's absolutely no problem with that. the problem arises when you hurt other people, then it's bad. people should understand that there is absolutely no problem with seeing colour or religion or culture; that's the beauty of diversity.
The problem with a lot of these movies is that it depicts black people as helpless, and the white people as the saviors. I saw "The Help" and "The Blind Side" within the past few years and I originally loved them. Great story, good actors, and it was heart-warming. What I didn't realize was that these movies are totally racially skewed. The theme of the good-hearted white person saving the poor black person or minority is prevalent in a lot of Hollywood movies. The focus is not on the struggle of the minority, but instead the change of character of the white person. So who can relate? White people of course! The targeted audience is white. Notice that the two films I listed above were Oscar nominated, along with Avatar, Cry Freedom, Dances with Wolves. Take a look at the plot of these movies and then you'll see what I'm talking about. White people eat this stuff up- and I will admit, I was one of them! The Blind Side was such a feel-good movie that made me believe that the world was really progressing in racial relations. And then I took a good look at myself and realized that I had never been remotely close to having a relationship like that with any non-white person. Most white people are feeling safe and sound living in suburbia bubble far away from most minorities who are struggling with the day-to-day violence in their communities. The suburbian's view on city life is that it is dangerous and filled with criminals- that's all that the news feeds them. So they associate that violence and crime with black people because that's all they know. If they actually took the time to take a trip down to the city, they would see that there are a lot of organizations and neighborhood groups that are making great efforts to improve the community. You know what I'd like to see? A movie about a predominantly black community working in union with the white people in town to improve the conditions of the community- canvassing for votes on progressive laws, cleaning the environment, reforming education, providing healthy food for families of all backgrounds. I know this is happening because I was a part of it when I lived in Baltimore. This is really occurring in cities around the country, but we rarely hear about it on the news and in the media in general. Black, white, blue, rainbow people all working cohesively towards a common goal- and not because the white people have a change in character and now have sympathy for minorities. It's about coexisting- when white people stay far away from the crime-ridden cities, they have no idea what that life is like because they have chosen to ignore it. Ignorance is truly bliss. Open up your eyes. Take a stroll around a city and talk with people of different backgrounds- learn their stories, their struggles. Have a cup of coffee and a great conversation with people who are different from you, then you'll start seeing people that are unlike you as actual human beings rather than statistics, and you will have better perspective of the world.
Mary Noppinger I totally agree with you. And Dirk Masters , that is a huge over-generalization. It is not remotely true that "black people never help white people." If I help a white friend to edit an essay, that counts as a black person helping a white person. Given that so many white families are extremely wealthy and so many black families are poor and live in poor, urban neighborhoods, yes, situations like the blind side are probably more common than situations in which rich black people help a struggling white boy by adopting him into their home. However, that by no means translates into "black people never help white people". Furthermore, movies like The Blind Side suggest that, as Mary said, the situation of black people is improving markedly due to the help of gracious white families. But that's far from the case. For one thing, very few white people, in my experience, have relationships with black people anywhere close to the one shown in The Blind Side. And although those relationships are helpful, they barely make a dent--so many reforms will be necessary to improve the situation of black people living in poor urban areas, and feel-good movies like The Blind Side make it seem as though the problem is resolved.
Can we just look at it as people helping other people? I know race is there & always will be, but that shit should be secondary. The 1st & most important thing u should notice is that one person is helping another, not who they are or what they look like. If u always pay attention to only what type of person(whether it has to do with race, class, rich or poor or whatever) is helping another type of person, then u will never be pleased. Cuz it is impossible for movies to make it equal for all races to help everyone. & even if there was a lot of movies of black saving whites, then whites will complain, & theres always gunna be a race complaining cuz thats all they pay attention to!!! rather than just paying attention to someone helping another.
omg!!!! I am sooo tired of the Stupid ignorant comments!!!!! THIS WHOLE BLACK AND WHOTE THING IS SOOOO OLD! Can't we just enjoy the DAMN MOVIE! interracial families do go through this!
I'm mixed race (half white-American and half afro-Dominican) and I probably won't see this film. I think I'd rather watch Avengers: Age Of Ultron instead.

Awesome, can't wait to see it!!! I figured as much with the actors that are in it. Thanks for the memo. :)

This story line hits to the heart.
Many grandparents raising grandchildren.
This movie was funny, tearjerker and plain good! Kevin Costner & Octavia were spectacular! She is the cutest little actor ever!
Excellent movie !
I loved the way it directly walked into racial politics, & didn't shy away.
Good people with different view points,
Good people making mistakes, & trying to do the right thing.
Best line of this movie was
“Yes my first thought is that he’s a black man. But what matters is my second thought. And the thoughts after that”
Maaaay Be paraphrasing a bit cause I saw this movie like, 5 years ago but still
It's on Netflix it's so good
'' your son is a junky''
'' you are a drunk ''
So that makes your son a good father ??? WTF
No. I thinks she meant that he's not any better. Though to be honest, trailers put together quotes and makes a conversation that never happens in the film, so they might not even say that to each other,
***** What about the girl's hair? cause it curly and coily, so it needs improvement?
Well, I understand that its a movie but in real life it can be that way and especially when you are not accustomed to doing african american hair type which are not just wavy but also can be tightly coiled.
***** Ok, me too. :)
Ill rather have a stable drunk grandfather than a junkie dad that could sell me for his next heroine fix
since im a white mother with a moroccan african child.. believe me.. my daughters people on her dads side are VERY much warm.. funny and lots of them.. kevin reminds me of my moms family.. believe me I will EMBRACE this movie... unless you straddle both worlds.. this wont make a tons of sense.. but to me it does big time!
Why is everyone trippin'? This looks like a great movie that I wanna see. :D
I should have known better not to look at the comments below... Shame on me
You said it. Human race still has ways to go...
spcollins2012 I hate people like you.
You should hate yourself
Lol 😂 😂 right. Some Americans are miserable and suffering from identity problems especially if they are born there with no history of my grand parents or dad is from isreland, Italy, Jamaica, Trinidad, Holland, Japan, etc..... those people are more miserable, they have no where to go.
About half the comments down below are people saying how they're not going to read the comments...
I cried watching this. Best movie ever. I love Octavia spencer. And just this whole movie... Just omg watch it
I'm black and white I can read relate to this story... But I'm not even gonna look at the rest of the comments cuz there most likly bout which race is better or worse .... But reality is skin isn't nothing but a color u all are human no ones better
I'm teary eyed after watching the trailer... GOOD JOB writers and actors of the movie...
A lot of racial tension in the comment section and a lot of racial tension in America.
From a black-British prospective
This is exactly what I was thinking! The racial tension in America is overwhelming and quite frankly, it's getting old.
You don't put it out in public, you type on your hatred on your key boards and smile in my face in public, most can't even look my in the eye. British are more open minded and Australians don't tolerate that racial bs
BCDesigns Chestnut Exactly!
SoYahYah People love to take the piss (Talk Shit) About America. Its easier to do that when all hells breaking lose in your own Country.
***** They Did in Britain London to be exact,,,,,Luton,,,,,,Leeds ,,,,,,Brixton

Um this is a movie about a Grandfather's unconditional love for his granddaughter and him fighting to keep her because he's lost everyone around him except Eloise ❤️😍 looks like a tear jerker too
movie is good...ignore the crusty comments
Movies like this give me hope for the world. Then I leave my house and cut back to reality.
You know I think people should watch the entire movie and then comment 😐 was excellent to me and it was not typical in any form from my perspective.
Monica Hugh same
When you see Kevin and Octavia on the same screen, you know its gonna be good 😍
"this isn't about black or white. This is about Eloise". Exactly so stop making everything about race. I knew there was a reason I never heard of this movie and it's been out for 7 years.

Octavia Spencer is so good at acting, it's crazy to me that she hasn't one an academy award for best actress, not just supporting actress.
I loved this movie. I couldn't stand the lawyer but u loved Costner's monologue towards the end. He speaks of truths that others are afraid to speak of. This is an excellent movie.
I think the title has to do with the biracial girl like how everyone forces mixed people to be seen as black but they are both.
I LOVED THIS MOVIE I CRIED AND LAUGHED SO MANY TIMES A MUST SEE MOVIE.

The song in the trailer is Ella Eyre - Home in case anyone else wanted to know :)
Just watched this movie. Amazing performance by Kevin Costner, Octavia Spencer and Falcon
People talk a lot of shit with out watching the movie!!
I would say to these people 'give this movie a chance before you judge it. You might be surprised by the message it portrays.
Hayley Preston, her post I totally agree with 100%!!!!! Everyone is targeted by racism and terrible stereotypes
The grandmother part killed me 🤣🤣🤣
I choked up watching this trailer. The little girl looks just like my daughter. I'm definitely going to see this!

this was a GREAT movie. great performances from Kevin & Octavia.
*what is it rated*
"Its not about black or white"
Yes. Its not. It should not matter what colour. What matters is we are all humans.
I don't see color. I see people. Get over yourself world.
When you don't see colors, you don't see racism. Get over yourself usa
that's bullshit. unless your visually impaired, of course, you do! and there's absolutely no problem with that. the problem arises when you hurt other people, then it's bad. people should understand that there is absolutely no problem with seeing colour or religion or culture; that's the beauty of diversity.
What's wrong with seeing color?
I don't think black people ever help white people, that is why it is more beliveable.
Dirk Masters Not true! Don't make such a broad ignorant statement!
Sorry, BP feel they dont need to help I meant
BILL BURR

I'm mixed race (half white-American and half afro-Dominican) and I probably won't see this film. I think I'd rather watch Avengers: Age Of Ultron instead.
This movie looks wonderful. I can't wait to see it.

This movie surprised me. It is actually a good movie. I was surprised.
I loved it! Looking for the song title that plays during the credits.
