I drive a day cab. I have to fire every day. The truck is governed to 65 and I make 2 round trips between plants. They're 99 miles apart. Loads are about 25k pounds up and about 18 on the way back on average. I have 2 65 gallon tanks. I'm in Alabama in flat ground as well. Traffic is relatively light compared to Indy. Lots of variables and I tried to include all those that I could think of.

JNS TRUCKING INC. It's not about the type of TRUCK you drive.. It's the type of freight you haul. And it's not ALL about the distance. It's the bottom line payout..Think about it... Otr....cpu logs.... Traffic ... Weather.... Brokers and their b.s. Great money to go to Cali but piss poor cash coming out to go ALL the way back to the eastern coast, which takes more than 7 days on e logs. Various fuel rates due to the region and state man They constantly squeeze blood from a turnip then if you break down you're stuck out waiting and you still may have to opt for a hotel or grab a rental then have to try to double back empty or loaded to get your truck after the repair and you're living out of a truck for Weeks out at a time over the road Hell naw
I found a local gig home daily starting at 4 a.m. Done by 4 pm running approximately 300-500 miles daily
Grossing on average 1800 weekly sometimes 2200 on a 5 day schedule as a company driver and get perks and more cash for working a 6th day
And they deal work owner ops, they have their own division within the company
So it can be done in a day cab
I know an o/o who started with one day cab now he had 3
Think outside of the box... Trucking has changed so our mindset must change as well in order to thrive.
Also duh genius, a day cab is cheaper to buy .......... And if you have to get a hotel..... Hello... It's a tax write off.... Can you say business expense!!!!

      My advise to you is:
Work What You Know. You are not going to make it big hauling tankers 'IF' all you have been pulling is a van. Learn all that you can about the field of Trucking that you are in.
Be Willing to Do the Jobs that Others Won't but Do Not Go Broke Just to Do Those Jobs.
In my case: I will never have any more employees due to the fact that, I Enjoy driving and managing Myself and Not Managing Others.

I drove a daycab as a company driver for 11 years and stayed in motels. Rather stay in a motel than in a truck any time. It was a dedicated route also. Company paid all expenses initially but toward the end they started getting stingy with the meals . Ran about 1500 miles a week working 60 to 70 hours per pay period hauling there own product. Usually grossed about 70k a year.

Look for auctions of going out of business type, where they maintained the fleet... get a cheap air ticket to florida or wherever, you will save $5k at least. I got a 2012 Mack Pinnacle with 400k that had been on dedicated turnpike run (smooth, not hard on truck) to Philly, $9,500 with only 400k on MP7 motor and truck is super clean. There are deals out there. Avoid other auction trucks (they usually have a motor that is about to blow (trust me, and re-read that), avoid trucks you can't get an oil sample checked, or those without maintenance records. Learn about manufacturer maintenance, was it done by a third party? Keep learning.

Nice video. Great advice and, as the economy continues to decline, the opportunities to take contract dedicated direct loads from shippers will increase. Small and large fleets alike are shuffling their driver rosters to eliminate the marginal producers and those with sketchy CSA scores. Do your homework about the area you want to run in and spend some time calling on whatever shippers you want to haul for. If you present yourself properly and sell your service you will find good freight. If you are new to the business find a solid, reliable broker and do a good contract with them. They need your service to sell. The trucking industry is an ever-changing challenge and opportunity to 'do-your-own-thing'. THAT is where the real money is! Don't give up because there is an enormous amount of opportunity in America even during a recession.

I've been saying this my whole life since I found out about trucking and its income. EVEN IF YOU DONT WANT TO BE A TRUCKER, get a cdl as backup in case your life goes down the shitter. Trucking will put you back where you need to be with hard work. I've known truckers making like 150k a year and they dont have to work consecutive weeks. Saturday Sunday off. Of course this is all as a owner but working for companies doesnt kill this idea either.

It just depends on how often he runs the route, breakdowns if any, and how many ppl he cut out of his pockets (like does he have an accountant or paying a factoring company because he can't wait 30 to 45days to get paid) However, I could be wrong like I said "I'm new to the industry.
