Im just glad as a 90s kid i lived through the golden era of Star Wars . We had the 6 films, the 2 clone wars shows and all the greatest videogames like KOTOR , battlefront games, the force unleashed, jedi knight and academy and so much more. Today the star wars medium feels like garbage food in comparison, quantity over quality. It was fun while it lasted
90s kids will never know how thrilling it was standing in line for the first three films, hoping they still had tickets available, with fellow SW fans talking about our latest SW figures acquisitions. Ah, good times. 😉 The days of going to the movie theaters are over. You can thank streaming and COVID-19 for that.
It’s a cash cow for them. Just put some lightsabers, xwings, tie fighters, pew pew pew and use a name of a character as the title and that’s it. There’s no care into the writing.
What did you not like about the shows? Can you be specific? I would think introducing new characters, and even expanding on old characters is a good thing. It helps create new avenues for stories and ideas to come off from. Yes disney dropped the ball hard on the sequels, but honestly, the D+ shows arent as bad as he is making them seem. I feel like he is mad they wouldnt let him monetize that vadar movie and now he has a grudge against Disney but idk.
The Disney Star Wars formula: 1) Take a random character. 2) Make that character the title name of the show 3) Insert characters who have nothing to do with main characters 4) hype the show on social media for 4 months The end.
One might think that one's a novel idea ... it's baffling, really, since there is no real reason for Star Wars to appeal to everyone either. It already is the most valuable franchise of all time, what more of an audience is there to capture?! :D
I truly like you speaking your mind. I get that you wanted to keep the fanbase together, be constructive - but good will has to have its limits. They threw away every credit, spent every goodwill we could give them. its time to demand more, better Star Wars. The stories we deserve. The stories the gave us are a mere shadow of the ones they dismissed, now being Legends former EU. Time to hold them accountable and demand they earn our fandom, our passion, our love. Keep it up, very excited for the Star Grift Mondays with MauLer. May the force serve you well my friend.
It’s impossible to keep a fandom together. There will always be people who think palpatine returning even though makes no sense… makes for a good movie
No one at Disney can "fix" Star Wars. No one at Disney can "correct" course for Star Wars. No one at Disney understands. You yourself are so uplifting and positive that I hesitate to say the next thing. Disney has tainted all of Star Wars, backwards and forwards. They have stained it. That taint is very possibly indelible, because Disney Star Wars will always be there, in its abominable existence, regardless of any personal or official retcons. Certain people will now forever be known as Those Who Destroyed Star Wars, and as concerned about legacies as they were, they'll have to settle for infamy! What a wretched hive of scum and villainy! At least we of the scattered fandom don't have to live with THAT! You are your own man, a very good man, I am convinced, and some comment from a random person in chat isn't going to crush you, so I said it. What you have here, the enjoyment of the intangible enchantment that Star Wars held for so many for so long is why I watch your videos and listen to your words. As much as they harp about "magic and pixie dust" Disney has no clue about that enchantment! You give us a focus, those of us who remember and knew that magic, savored the fine points of it, and to me that is now the shared enjoyment. Looking back to before the Dark Times of Disney, before the evil Empress, and the transformation of Lucasfilm into Pukeusfilm, that is what we have. Each of us, in some way, knew the enchantment they will never know.
Andor was great I liked the vibe & everything but Mando seasons 1 & 2 have been the only Star Wars live-action property since prequels where I actually felt the magic again. Will def watch Andor season 2 though
the problem is multi fold. 1. people who either don't care or actively despise Star Wars are making decisions. 2. low budget. it looks cheap and the quality suffers. 3. political messaging. 4. destruction of Legacy characters. constantly insulting or degrading established beloved characters to prop up new unliked ones. 5 the over focus on the movie timeline. as we've seen Disney cannot handle Legacy characters and attempts to try end badly. but instead of using the 25 thousand years BEFORE the movies with all the possible characters they could want to make they're focused on the already established characters and setting. and the overreliance on cameos and established characters to save the shows proves how low the quality is. but the biggest problem isn't 1 of these. it's ALL of them. because they all feed into eachother which results in shows that have fans either disappointed, angry or in some cases depressed. we WANT to like the shows. we really truly do. but Disney won't get out of its own way.
anytime Disney star wars gets heat they throw racism or misogyny as the reason people don't like it. probably the biggest example is Reva in Kenobi. there's also the very easily edited out lesbian kiss scene in TROS that was in Western cinemas but suspiciously absent in Chinese cinemas. or the poster for Force Awakens that prominently featured Fin in the West but had him much smaller in Chinese posters. there are alot more but these should help clarify. @@bobaoriley1912
@@HelloThisIsGadget there's the political etc etc of pre Disney and then there's the blatant politics of post Disney. moreover there's entertaining political themes/undertones/messaging. and then there's attacking and insulting politics. made worse by IRL political attacks whenever people voice dislike of something
This saddens me because I WANT SW to be there for the generations growing up, as it was for me, but it isn't, it's a husk of itself filled with empty/hollow "fans" who only identify with a character because "they did something cool!" SW is...was so much more than that. It was never George self inserting himself in to say how life beat him down (for the unaware he was a racing enthusiast before directing) the writers including Filoni, are narcissistic ego maniacs who are piggy backing of a good mans work. Just like Lotr is going through now. Not one of these people earned the right to even touch Lucas' ip. Filoni is whipped harder than a Twileak on Friday night at the palace, until the subs fall drastically, we're stuck here.
I was actually surprised that Andor was a really good show. I have watched 6 episodes now, and I have enjoyed every single one. And I usually am picky in what I watch.
Disney seemed to decide to use their "Big Name" characters from Marvel and Star Wars to promote their "new" characters. Even Mandolorian did this even though he was a new character. It's like an immediate cash out and was very obvious.
Their new characters media like Andor and Mandalorian are actually good shows. The same goes for the Rogue One movie (sequel to Andor). Their garbage shows are the ones with old characters - Kennobi and Bobba Fett. Another show with old character, Ashoka, is mediocre. So the "new character" stuff needed actual writing, plot, good dialogue, etc. while the old character stuff was running on nostalgia bait and put in the bare minimum effort because they thought nostalgia + pewpew & lightsabers were enough to make up for everything.
Sam Witwer has been GM-ing pen and paper Star Wars RPGs with his buds since he was in junior high (knowledge courtesy of the Order 66 podcast). That’s more Star Wars writing experience than anyone has currently writing for Disney Star Wars.
I think the biggest problem’s isn’t the shows it’s the writing of the shows if they were good and faithful to what George created and had good writing like Shows like Better Call Saul,Breaking Bad,GoT,House of the Dragon,Buffy,Old Doctor who then this wouldn’t be a problem.
The only way they can move forward is by going back. Somehow they need to decanonize the sequels, or at the very least have them in an alternative universe. I think fans would be more forgiving of some of the shows but knowing where it all leads taints that. Also they have simply been coasting on nostalgia. That'll only last for so long.
I was there in 1977 as a kid and couldn't get enough. Star Wars was magical and it lit the fire of science fiction for me. I saw it more than a dozen times in the theater. I did whatever odd job I could to raise the $2.50/ticket. I had the Story of Start Wars LP and wore it out. Santa brought the Kenner early bird certificate at Christmas for the action figures. I built the plastic models of the x-wing and Vader's tie fighter and hung them from my bedroom ceiling. I have a lot of empathy for you since you've stuck with it for longer than I did and you have so much more invested. I bailed after EP 1 (EP III was tolerable and I was OK with Rogue One since it led right into IV). It just wasn't the same. I despise what they've done to the original character-rich franchise. But hang in there, brother... you're a good man with a big heart.
There’s no passion for the lore in these new series. It’s a bunch of checkboxes in a corporate board room and nothing more to keep the Disney + subscribers from cancelling.
In terms of shows: Andor is amazing. Mandalorian is good. Ashoka is mediocre. Bobba Fett and Kenobi are bad. In terms of movies: Rogue One is amazing. Han Solo is ok. The new trilogy ranges from ok to bad. Watch the good stuff and skip the bad ones. That is how Disney will learn. Tony Gilroy made Andor and co-directed Rogue One.
Short answer on what happened after Mandaloruan s2. Chapek didn't understand why KK was working on Children of blood and bones instead of overseeing SW. Iger put her there to give Favreau creativ fredom) Kathleen didn't only fire Gina she didn't like that Luke was in the spotlight again (why? Not 100% sure) She gave Dave a promotion ECD so he got above Jon in Jon's own creation. That's why Grogu went back etc. Dave has since then creative cotrol over everything, only reporting to KK. So now it is KK's SW we see. Favreau is no longer in charge and his vision for this era is more or less dead. Dave is praising KK for everything inbevery intervju now
You can tell that there was moments that were good in Ahsoka and Mandolorian season 3. The problem is where you can clearly tell people interfered to make a point or put things in to fill certain quotas. Wish we could just have a good show without having to make a point or fill quotas. Theory has many good points throughout this video.
I'm one of those OG Star Wars fans. I couldn't wait for the Ashoka show to air. However, along the way I saw what they did to Luke in the Sequel Trilogy. Then, I saw that Obi-Wan going from main star to co-star. I finally had had enough and canceled my subscription. As much as I adored Ashoka in the cartoon, I refuse to endorse Disney with a subscription to their shows. After Ashoka released, I would ask friends if they liked it. In other words, "please give me a reason to end my boycott. .." Nothing but crickets in the background.
Beating a dead horse at this point. It’s never gonna change. If these movies are made, I promise you we aren’t gonna like it. Star Wars is all over the place right now. Oversaturated like Marvel, to the point people lost all interest. Instead of getting 1-2 great projects in 3 years, we’re getting 5-8 projects per year, and we’re lucky to get 2 good ones.
I feel like Disney has focus groups watch their shows... but not just any focus groups, they select people in the group like lawyers select a jury... they have no prior knowledge of the subject and thus no love for Star Wars. Then the ask the group what they liked about the characters and if they could guess what the show was about. It's bewildering what Disney is doing to Star Wars. It's like watching a plane crash from 30,000 feet... its wings fell off and all you can do is stare at it as it approaches the ground at 500mph.
I kinda hope that with the surge in "reaction" content... that this will heavily impact Disney+ subscriptions and force them to put things back in the cinemas.
They either need to shorten them into movies, or flesh them out into 12 episode seasons. They are at such an awkward length right now where they have the pacing of a show but the length of a long movie. That, to me, is the real problem here (setting aside the writing and their preaching of The Message ™️).
The only problem with that theory is that the movies suck donkey balls as well. I don't disagree with your supposition but ultimately what is destroying Star Wars is the insertion of identity politics at the expense of good story telling. Star Wars has the ability to be successful on both the big and small screens, it need only get back to good story telling to do so.
2002-2004: the best year for Star Wars content. It’s not a disney problem, it’s a corporate culture problem. And unless the mentality of “consume new product” stops, then all franchises will be turned in Mind Flayers.
@@AncestorEmpire1 I don't think so... I wasn't around at that time but when the first star wars movie came out it was a massive cultural thing. Adjusted for inflation it's the 2nd biggest movie ever. That is clearly the time star wars was at it's biggest. I'm surprised anyone would argue against that People my age lived through the prequels which were a mainstream big thing in 1999 then faded out by 2002 and then the same in 2015 which faded out by 2018. But the hype from 1977 lasted until 1986 without ever really dying down at all. To put it into perspective all 3 of the OT beat Jurassic Park, The Lion King, Grease which were all huge things in their own rights
@@jamesarnold7253 you still don’t understand. And to be honest, it’s not just you but a majority of the SW fandom. Star Wars is not just films and television. It is a brand, a Mythos. 2002-2004 was a banger that covered all bases on a high level. An actual balance, unlike that wanna be Kreia nonsense KK led Lucasfilm tries to push. Well I do agree that the OT won’t be topped or matched, 2002-2004 was and is a gold age for SW content was regularly coming out.
Another great video SWT! I totally agree about the character development. They should be looking at shows like The Walking Dead. There is only so much that you can do with Zombies attacking. Change the location, kill a friend or family member of the main characters. That show had to rely on the depth of it's characters and their believable development. If Star Wars had development like that, they would never run out of stories to tell. They have an entire universe to throw at those characters to see how it would effect their lives. Any Star Wars show would end up being a longer running series than the Simpsons.
I don't think we could handle Witwer on the creative team. He is a rabid fan of the OG-LUCASverse, with a three-dimensional grip on the characters and story. We'd come out of the theatre crying and begging for more. We'd go back at watch in the theatre, again. You know, like the old days.. before the dark times.
Speaking of Sam Witwer....why the actual sh** was Force Unleashed REMOVED from canon?! That was an AMAZING game (1st one only, as far as #2 goes....thank u for charging me $60 for 5 hrs of gameplay!! 😡), and Sam deserved a spot in Star Wars Canon.
I love how you just snapped one day and became an Anti-Disney Star Wars 100%. Don’t get me wrong it’s your opinion, it’s your channel, do what you want, don’t see this comment as a means of trying to change you. It’s just crazy as an outsider looking in how the content direction seemingly changed out of nowhere
Watching this channel for like 2+ years, it’s crazy how much Theory has been critical of everything Disney does. I believe that Disney deserves some negative feedback, but not to the degree he talks about . I feel like these days, like 40% of what he talks about is hating on Disney, calling Disney what he believes to be “woke”, and generally just talking bad about Disney. It’s getting tiring.
@@bobaoriley1912 it’s crazy cus half of the stuff that’s happened with Star Wars under Disney i think most of the fanbase enjoys. We got the Jedi Games, Lego Star Wars games, Battlefront 2 all under the Disney Era, We got Star Wars Rebels, the first two seasons of Mandalorian, Bad Batch (which I don’t love but fans seem to love it), we got Visions season 1 and 2, Clone Wars season 7, I mean I’m just saying it’s not perfect or the best it can be but I feel these things are worth mentioning in the conversation
@@JakeTylenolI agree I love s lot of the stuff Disney has done, but some of the biggest things they’ve like obi wan and book of boba have been massive disappointments and could have been something to truly bring the fanbase together instead the inconsistency has ripped it apart even further, a lot of the stuff does seem politically motivated and it’s just sad because of the potential it all has ruined
This isn’t just Disney but almost every single corporation out there Even and especially video game corporations They care about fast cash at the cost of the real money from content Just getting a brand out there as fast as possible that will inevitably gain them money and we’ve stalkholmed ourselves into constantly being optimistic “Well maybe this one will be good, maybe this one will be good, ok two flops obviously the next one is gonna succeed, ok well that was mediocre but I can feel a banger is gonna drop, hey that one wasn’t too bad it can only go up from here right?” No.. no it cannot You reach a minor peak every 3-5 titles and it keeps getting shoehorned into the dirt with fast profit, the doorway to shitty writing, bad characters, terrible special effects And when one thing is more successful they go “oh hey do what you did for that again!! It’ll be great Wait no what are you doing? Ya gotta be faster, what’s this a whole character arc? Fuck that we don’t have time for it, nonononono you’re gonna blow our special effects budget tone down the detail, oh we gotta wrap up this villain as fast as possible btw no I don’t care that he was planned for another season, give him a badass dramatic death with very little buildup to his impact Yep yep perfect alright she’s good to ship” And then are left with a surprised Pikachu face when it flops That’s what they did with mando season 3 and it’ll be what they do with every subsequent piece of Star Wars media No every piece of iconic media in general We’re all kidding ourselves and don’t see an issue here
i agree that they are hurting star wars but i like the concept of long format tv shows for these vast systems of material. it would take someone sitting down and planning things out down to a tee to do this correctly. id prefer what they are doing where there isnt vast number of years between movies but they would need be be planning 4+ years (in detail) in the future to keep things good and coming out on a set schedule. not sure if its possible in practice but id love to see this done right
Theory, you are a hero to the Star Wars community. So many of us don’t have a voice and no one listens to us about what we want with Star Wars. You have a voice. Beacsue of people like you I have hope that one day Star Wars will return to greatness.
I was extremely excited for the kenobi show and got a subscription just for that show. Disney could've done so much more with that show than the disaster we got. Week after week I watched, hoping for more but extreme disappointment is what I was left with. It's a shame
YES. I was SOOOO disappointed with the lack of obi-Anakin flashbacks. So annoyed with the characters that had nothing to do with the main characters. So much missed opportunity with Hayden coming back on with possible looks into what Vader was going through… etc etc
I suggest its incompetence and mediocrity combined with bean counters and MBA Ivy League types not understanding or even caring about the idea of Star Wars or the fandom attached to it that was built up over many decades. They are only concerned about the revenue numbers for the next quarter. This is what happens when corporatism is prioritized over creativity and legacy. It’s just the Disney industrial complex of turning out more corporate approved product and merch to lead to the next corporate approved product and merch. It’s quantity and not quality.
Exactly! It’s like they have an hour or two’s worth of tv that stretch out to six or eight 35 minute episode, by having everyone walk slowly, stand around, break up sentences add in some cheesy poorly down action, and then try to convince us that it’s going to be a great season because they are adding a cameo or two.
@@eds1942 Not really. Sounds to me like you are confirming you are spoiled on what we saw during the Prequels. Well, I'm sorry they don't use sticks with CGI anymore but actual light sword props for movement.
4:04 you were just talking about how all the Disney Plus shows end of a cliffhanger and I started thinking about how most Breaking Bad episodes end that way and then you mentioned it as an example of shows that don’t do that lmao
What do Prequel fans want out of Star Wars? Revenge of the Sith Part II, III, IV, and V starring Hayden Christensen? What other parts do you want them to explore?
The way Walt’s fly episode progressed his character is something disney could never understand. He literally spent a whole episode tryna kill a fly yet we learned so much about him. Meanwhile at disney, Reva is angy and wasted a whole show for obi and anakin/vader fans
Disney would never do this but my dream scenario would be this... They can stick to Animation, Video Games, Star Wars Land and things like that! BUT they should sell some of the rights towards making Live Action Films to other Studios. Much like how they worked alongside Sony to bring Spiderman into the MCU but now they would be dealing SW characters and concepts out to other studios. This would give so many other filmmakers the chance to make something fresh and exciting while simultaneously ensuring that the Disney corporation gets a small percentage of the profits. It's a WIN WIN in my opinion because even if another studio makes a film that is bad or controversial then Disney is still in a good position to distance themselves away from it and have excellent damage control. Example, "We didn't make this... Universal is what handled what you saw on screen". But there would surely be some films that were done well and we as the fans would finally start to see creative and unique interpretations of Star Wars films. In summation, Disney gets $$$ & We get all kinds of new Star Wars material. Universal, Sony, Paramount, Lionsgate, Warner Bros, A24, etc etc etc. Let them have a crack at it. If one company starts doing really well in particular then you can sell the Star Wars brand for Billions of dollars down the road.
Lucas wanted to make a story about how Leia was the chosen one and bring back Darth maul so Anakin had never actually destroyed the sith. Also have it super focused on midichlorians. The same people who hated the sequels would hate this too
@@jamesarnold7253that is not true lmao. He never wanted her to make the chosen one. She became a politician who fought the crime mafia created by darth Maul.
In Kenobi we should have gotten the black krrsantan fight like in the comics, that speech about how he was taught alot of things just not how to disappear would have been great.
Disney is probably the worst offender, but this is not unique to Disney. Hollywood needs to get it's self figured out, before a bunch of studios go bankrupt.
You see when Lucas created it it was not just a vision it was a dream something that actually brought a sense of life to such a small world that we started off with something even greater as we continued on. Now with the acquisition Disney doesn't see that Vision because Lucas isn't there when the Creator isn't there to continue his vision it tends to fall apart because there's no sense of coherency of the story so what you means that the Creator isn't there the story is going to fall apart
That collab of people would honestly be next level. Tony Gilroy knows how to write at such high quality + the Star Wars knowledge the others know….. we would be in for something insane
Kenobi was supposed to be a movie That project was scrapped. Then the script was retooled into a series Then production was halted the day they were supposed to begin shooting for a full rewrite
Here is the problem with the movies though. They are chosing identity politics and whatever Ryan Johnson thought he was doing over having a good story. Plots don't make sense. Everything gets retconned and when anyone calls them on it they are racist/sexist/etc. They can't look past themselves to make good characters and tell good stories.
Have you actually tried running that logic through your head? How does the inclusion of a person of color or a woman affect the quality of the story at all? Does casting a woman somehow take budget away from the writing team? It makes no sense, y’all just see a mediocre movie, blame the minority who is just in the film and run with it. It’s insanely dumb if you think about it even a little bit. Get over it, women and black people exist
@wexler8368 you didn't read what I said did you. No crap women and black people exist, might want to tell Disney's China division that though. The problem isn't they are in movies, I was looking forward fo Rey and everyone in the movie. The problem is the characters were bad. Fin was screwed over by Disney since movie 1. Rey has no character development and is just a terribly written character. Heck poe was wasted. Not one of the characters in the movie was good and the plot was a broken mess. Does not matter gender or skin color. If the original trilogy was as poorly written as those 3 movies were, there would be no starwars after the first movie. People like you are why we can't have these conversations. You either incorrectly or intentionally assume any criticism of a female or non-white character is people being racist/sexist. Literally called you out in my first comment. Cast all the women/ people of color you want. Just make them good characters and give them good plots. If you don't your going to be called out on it. So yeah women and people of color in movies are not a problem. Bad characters, plots, identity politics and people like you are.
@@Allmightyimortal i did read your comment, otherwise i wouldn’t have responded. Frankly i completely agree with you that they wasted both rey and finn, but your comment clearly states the problem is identity politics, which when boiled down, barely exist or don’t even exist in these films. Anytime, and i mean a n y time “people like you” since we’re apparently generalizing see a new movie/game with a nonwhite or male protagonist, y’all immediately jump on the boycott wagon “oh wow they’re so WOKE and focused on IDENTITY POLITICS the movie is bad because they’re woke woke woke” and the main lead is just black
@wexler8368 they literally went around with shirts saying the force is female and claimed anyone who didn't like Rey was sexist, and unless they were from China, anyone who had problems with fin were racists. That is quite literally identity politics. Literally, every woman/ person of color in these films is "perfect," while any white man is an idiot, washed up, pathetic, or evil. If a film doesn't want to be accused of being wokr, don't act like it. Do people jump on that boycott wagon to soon, yes. But it's because of movies like these 3. Also that not generalizing "people like you" if you act like them and take any criticism as sexism/ racism. It's not.
Unpopular opinion; create a whole new Star Wars movie series set during Old Republic. I guess you could call it a reboot, but “reboot” is a strong word kinda. But I would be so excited for a new story line.

100% agree on this.I understand companies need to do things for the sale of revenue. And that's fine. But it feels like that all these are being created with zero care/passion and ONLY revenue. Ironically the revenue is probably doing worse because of this.
Back in late 2019 my sister and I went to watch the Rise of Skywalker at Picture house in London. Together we spent £40 or more. I enjoyed Obi Wan Kenobi and the Mandalorians. I couldn’t get into Andor or Boba Fett
The Kenobi legends book is one of my all time favorite stories, I have read it multiple time and was extremely let down by the show. So much more they could have done.
Let;s see... 1. I don't have to go to an overpriced movie theater and pay for snacks. If I did 3 movies a year, well, that is almost the price of DP for a year. 2. I can hit rewind and pause as needed when I watch something. Can' t do that at movie theatre. 3. I can watch a movie over and over and over should I want to. 4. I can watch every episode of Rebels, Clone Wars. 4a. I can watch everything I want on my phone while on a bus or in an airport... without commercials. 4b. I hate tv now because I hate watching commercials.... and when youtube stops me from watching you. So, some of the material is weak. Some is great. They did a crappy job on 7-8-9... so what is to say they might do a better job on a movie is a strech.
The Book of Boba Fett was a joke... and at beast should have been a few episodes of Mando. Ok... you have a point there. Andor was amazing. Kenobi was worth it. 60% of Ahsoka was great... 40% was a waste of time. The Tales of the Jedi was spectacular. I'm over The Bad Batch... I don't care if they make another season or not. How the rest will play out... well... that is to be determineed but what bugs me about the paid channel is that the new content is delayed and delayed and delayed... that is how they are badly stringing us along.
so much Star Wars content, I'm happy. I remember the days of having no Star Wars content. some content is better than no content because nothing has been super terrible, yet... except that 8 movie. that movie was so terrible we could've done without it altogether lol@@alexsears7892
The sequels are better than the prequels and maybe even of the original trilogy, people not admitting how good the sequels are don't want to give them credit because it's a female lead. The way they treated every character is just perfect yet people complain because they can't admit how good it really is, they should make shows and movies about the Sequels and every fan should be happy about that, Ahsoka was also good because it was a female lead, Disney + would do good if they proceed like that 💯
@@alexsawyer9652 What's so funny about it? Why the sequels are so under appreciated? There are nearly no flaws in these movies compared to the prequel trilogy and yet people complain because they don't like Rey the GOAT jedi that has a way darker story and well written one than Luke or Anakin
@@baconbob901 You just won't admit it because you're some anti-woke guy, if you look at it without all these politics it's near perfection, contrarily to the prequels
Half of most of these shows have either been hit or miss, forgettably mid, or just straight out trash like Kenobi and BOBBFT, thats the sin it all started when Disney bought Star Wars hence the Sequels hence streaming
I’m so glad Star Wars Theory is using his platform and voice to speak the truth that Disney needs to hear. He’s not hating either, he’s being completely honest and he’s actually trying to help. Because to him, myself, and millions of other people, the Star Wars story that George Lucas started, is the best story ever told and it’s unfair and selfish that they’re throwing all of that away just for their personal greed and for them to keep pocketing monthly subscriptions and for selling merchandise. As of right now, I think the best movie sequence to ever come out is the MCU from 2002 through 2019. (Spider-Man to Endgame). Star Wars had potential to compete and even be better than the MCU but the last 3 movies really knocked them into ridiculous territory, up there with the Fast & Furious franchise. If Disney had these guys as their head of Star Wars division: Dave Filoni, Jon Favreau, Star Wars Theory and if they can get George Lucas as a part time writer / mentor, that would be the ultimate dream team.
Just one major problem with the logic here. The Disney movie trilogy was worse than most of the TV shows. Lucasfilm is rotten to the core - it needs a house cleaning/rebuilding and until that happens the format is irrelevant
It is so bizarre, I get very little in the way of enjoyment from Star Wars these days, but I get massive enjoyment from the RUclips commentary. Honestly, at this point, I’m much happier to be having my views contribute to your income than that of Disney. Thank you for all the great vids
@Star Wars Theory The problem with corporate companies like Disney is that they see Ip's such as Star Wars as a product to be consumed based on market research, not as a work of art to please its fan base who are the customers. In order for Star wars to thrive again it needs to be kept far away from Disney. A Star Wars TV show can work if it is done properly with good writing and directing, simple as that. We saw that in Mando season One.
Due to myself loving grammar of titles and the central ideas of stories, I believe it would be better to have your new channel name be Theoretical Tales, or Tales of Theory, or rather The Tales of Theory. That last ones sounds much more alluring to me.
It was as easy as this, ignore the sequels and cancel the rei movie, use all the resources for important shows like ahsoka or obi wan, but they didnt do it, and those shows were dissapointing, specially kenobi... Obi wan is one of the most important star wars characters and they made that trash show... Ahsoka is also super important but only the anakin episodes were decent, everything else was super badly written, specially sabines character development which is a big mess, thrawn was awful, he is supposed to be super inteligent and he makes big stupid mistakes. The only shows i really like in the disney era are the animated shows, rebels clone wars season 7 and tales of the jedi.
I couldn't get past when you were accusing the audience of not understanding your position on Andor. I do not look at Twitter, I don't even read comments on your videos but from watching your videos, my impression is that you didn't enjoy Andor.
I put off watching Obi Wan for a long time as I knew the reviews for the show were pretty bad, most people saying exactly what you pointed out in the video about the formula for the show being stretched out with unnecessary rubbish. I recently got curious though and decided on watching the Patterson Cut, as I figured Obi Wan would work better as a movie. I feel like the cut did an amazing job at condensing the story down and I actually really enjoyed it for what it was. All of the best moments were highlighted and not tarnished by needless narratives that went nowhere or mean nothing.
If they actually made something watchable, it would be a win. Most they make are sub par. I wouldnt touch SW, Marvel or Disney as a actor or director in its current state. Its become the laughingstock of the World.
1) make a random main character 2) put the name of a beloved character as the show title 3) make show about the random main character 4) Make Kathleen Kennedy the director
The only thing good Disney did was Rogue One. I liked Obi-Wan Kenobi but only three episodes were worth watching. Forget everything else they have done. Also, LucasArts should have never been done away with. EA makes shitty Star Wars games.
I understand what he means by narrowing it down to the best people to take _Star Wars_ forward (i.e. Dave Filoni, Tony Gilroy, Jon Favreau, Sam Witwer), but as someone who loved _Andor,_ I do wanna remind people of the other directors and writers on that show: Dan Gilroy (Tony's brother), Toby Haynes, Susanna White, Benjamin Caron, Stephen Schiff, and Beau Willimon (who wrote all three episodes of the Narkina 5 prison arc, including Luthen's famous monologue). Furthermore, I think there are some good writers/directors for _The Clone Wars._ I basically just wanna remind people, especially when it comes to _Andor,_ that the great creative minds named in this video cannot and have not done it alone.
They should focus less on profit and more on proper asset management. Unfortunately they are totally blinded by greed. Funny how the Disney takeover of Star Wars is basically a mirror reflection of the Empire taking over the Galaxy. Don't they see the irony? Now that's a mindfuck!
Right. I noticed they structured their shows in a way that ends the Finale on the first week of the month. So you HAVE to renew one last time to see how the Season ends. & Then you are stuck with a Disney+ Sub for another 3 weeks that you do not even use. Its sooo annoying!
Im just glad as a 90s kid i lived through the golden era of Star Wars . We had the 6 films, the 2 clone wars shows and all the greatest videogames like KOTOR , battlefront games, the force unleashed, jedi knight and academy and so much more. It’s a cash cow for them. Just put some lightsabers, xwings, tie fighters, pew pew pew and use a name of a character as the title and that’s it. There’s no care into the writing.
It isn’t. D+ has cost them billions because few too people watch this stuff now.

The Disney Star Wars formula:
1) Take a random character.
2) Make that character the title name of the show
3) Insert characters who have nothing to do with main characters
4) hype the show on social media for 4 months

That's the kicker right there: target audience. Dear Disney, stop trying to make Star Wars for everyone, and make Star Wars for Star Wars fans.
What a concept… make content for the most beloved IP in history for the folks who made it the most beloved IP in history.
Radical idea!
There's a saying: When you try to appeal to everyone, you appeal to no one."
One might think that one's a novel idea ... it's baffling, really, since there is no real reason for Star Wars to appeal to everyone either. It already is the most valuable franchise of all time, what more of an audience is there to capture?! :D
Yeah it's ironic how they're targeting every possible audience except those who actually like star wars.
They tried doing that with Last Jedi
You’re never going to get better Star Wars as long as the IP is under the control of this current iteration of Disney.
Then go watch something else.
Not until they remove kathleen palpatine

Disney doesn’t care what we want. They’ll continue to ruin this franchise.
they do, why else would they be doing fan service and spilling billions into Star Wars
the problem is multi fold. 1. people who either don't care or actively despise Star Wars are making decisions. 2. low budget. it looks cheap and the quality suffers. 3. political messaging. 4. destruction of Legacy characters. constantly insulting or degrading established beloved characters to prop up new unliked ones.
Very well said.
Genuinely curious, what of it is political messaging?
anytime Disney star wars gets heat they throw racism or misogyny as the reason people don't like it. probably the biggest example is Reva in Kenobi. there's also the very easily edited out lesbian kiss scene in TROS that was in Western cinemas but suspiciously absent in Chinese cinemas. or the poster for Force Awakens that prominently featured Fin in the West but had him much smaller in Chinese posters. there are alot more but these should help clarify. @@bobaoriley1912
Ah yes, Star Wars, a franchise well-known for its lack of political themes, political undertones and political messaging
@@Intranetusathey’re not ready for that conversation 👀
Sam Witwer has been GM-ing pen and paper Star Wars RPGs with his buds since he was in junior high (knowledge courtesy of the Order 66 podcast). That’s more Star Wars writing experience than anyone has currently writing for Disney Star Wars.
Nailed it.
100% agreed
Neither Disney nor Lucas Film have the interests of the Star Wars legacy or the Fans in mind. I seriously think they hate both with a passion.
There’s no passion for the lore in these new series. It’s a bunch of checkboxes in a corporate board room and nothing more to keep the Disney + subscribers from cancelling.
Not entirely true.

Iger put her there to give Favreau creativ fredom)
Kathleen didn't only fire Gina she didn't like that Luke was in the spotlight again (why?
In other words, "please give me a reason to end my boycott. .."
Nothing but crickets in the background.
We love you Theory, you are the voice of many of us lifelong fans
I really like this take and the whole 'feel' of this vid. Super constructive, but critical where it needed to be. Well done mate!
Good job brother. Star wars fans will always vote for independent creators such as yourself, over the soulless, corporate greed of Disney.
Andor, Bad Batch and TotJ are objectively the best Star Wars since the glory days of Mathew Stover, James Luceno, and Timothy Zahn.
Well, they payed a huge mass of money and they have to earn a lot of money. Simple.
We need to stop dissing Andor. But I see your point.
It’s getting dissed for a reason it’s not that great
I kinda hope that with the surge in "reaction" content... that this will heavily impact Disney+ subscriptions and force them to put things back in the cinemas.
Bro didn’t just say Filoni has done great things AFTER the Disney acquisition ☠️
Do you you want to make money, or divide your fan base?
DISNEY: "YES"
They either need to shorten them into movies, or flesh them out into 12 episode seasons. They are at such an awkward length right now where they have the pacing of a show but the length of a long movie. That, to me, is the real problem here (setting aside the writing and their preaching of The Message ™️).
The only problem with that theory is that the movies suck donkey balls as well. I don't disagree with your supposition but ultimately what is destroying Star Wars is the insertion of identity politics at the expense of good story telling. Star Wars has the ability to be successful on both the big and small screens, it need only get back to good story telling to do so.

No.. no it cannot
You reach a minor peak every 3-5 titles and it keeps getting shoehorned into the dirt with fast profit, the doorway to shitty writing, bad characters, terrible special effects
And when one thing is more successful they go “oh hey do what you did for that again!! It’ll be great
Wait no what are you doing? Ya gotta be faster, what’s this a whole character arc? Fuck that we don’t have time for it, nonononono you’re gonna blow our special effects budget tone down the detail, oh we gotta wrap up this villain as fast as possible btw no I don’t care that he was planned for another season, give him a badass dramatic death with very little buildup to his impact
Yep yep perfect alright she’s good to ship”
And then are left with a surprised Pikachu face when it flops

No every piece of iconic media in general
We’re all kidding ourselves and don’t see an issue here
i agree that they are hurting star wars but i like the concept of long format tv shows for these vast systems of material. it would take someone sitting down and planning things out down to a tee to do this correctly. id prefer what they are doing where there isnt vast number of years between movies but they would need be be planning 4+ years (in detail) in the future to keep things good and coming out on a set schedule. not sure if its possible in practice but id love to see this done right

D+ is making decent enough content to stay. I can admit it too. Wish they would've picked up Harry Potter instead of Universal getting it.
Man imagine if George Lucas bought back Star Wars
There’s a ongoing rumor he’s teaming up with Nelson peltz and Ike to overthrow Bob iger by buying up shares so they have boardroom seats
He sold Star Wars
Like a new car it lost 20% value when Disney bought it. He’d probably make a profit
Lucas wanted to make a story about how Leia was the chosen one and bring back Darth maul so Anakin had never actually destroyed the sith. Also have it super focused on midichlorians. The same people who hated the sequels would hate this too

I saw the fan cut of the Kenobi show. It was a million times better. I actually really liked it! Would’ve worked way better as a movie
That collab of people would honestly be next level. Tony Gilroy knows how to write at such high quality + the Star Wars knowledge the others know….. we would be in for something insane
Gilroy overrated himself.
Tony Kilroy is the JJ abrams of Star Trek. And we all know how that turned out.
Hint: Star Trek is in the toilet.
Kenobi was supposed to be a movie
That project was scrapped. Then the script was retooled into a series
Then production was halted the day they were supposed to begin shooting for a full rewrite
It's not.
I don't recall people whining about Darth Maul coming back in the Clone Wars
Unpopular opinion; create a whole new Star Wars movie series set during Old Republic. I guess you could call it a reboot, but “reboot” is a strong word kinda. But I would be so excited for a new story line.
Personally I agree but i don't want to see it created by the current set of personalities at Lucasfilm.
They should move away from the sequels era and make some projects set during the old republic
@@jeffbrewer1580 Current LucasFilm would butcher it.
@@jeffbrewer1580yeah I really don’t wanna see how bad they could butcher the old republic lmaoo I love some of the stuff in the Disney era but I also hate some as well and what they’ve done to some of the beloved characters is criminal
Remember when a TV show season had 22-26 episodes? And now-a-days, even 8 is too much for the writers, the stretching and filler is painfully visible.
Dudes out here saying how all of us real fans feel. Like why tf isn't Sam used more why does it feel like they just can't seem to get it right when it's so obvious what the fans want.
I’m glad you said something about this, it’s not a secret but I’m tired of the people trying to defend it and call you out for not liking it.
Theory, you are missing an integral point: Current Disney doesn't care about money, they only care about "the message" they shove into everything.
The Kenobi legends book is one of my all time favorite stories, I have read it multiple time and was extremely let down by the show. So much more they could have done.
Man this channel used to be fun and positive. Ever since Mauler clawed his hands in here the negativity took over...Sad. Unsubscribed.
Yeah - no wonder his videos now get sub 80k views
The way they treated every character is just perfect yet people complain because they can't admit how good it really is, they should make shows and movies about the Sequels and every fan should be happy about that, Ahsoka was also good because it was a female lead, Disney + would do good if they proceed like that 💯
Lmao
😂
@@alexsawyer9652 What's so funny about it? Why the sequels are so under appreciated? There are nearly no flaws in these movies compared to the prequel trilogy and yet people complain because they don't like Rey the GOAT jedi that has a way darker story and well written one than Luke or Anakin
@@MrJojoringo Buddy the sequels are terrible, let's not get it twisted
@@baconbob901 You just won't admit it because you're some anti-woke guy, if you look at it without all these politics it's near perfection, contrarily to the prequels
6:00 we know exactly what happened to Mandalorian season 3 Dave filoni walked away from it to work on Ahsoka and it shows.
Now in hindsight that was more likely Favreau, not Filoni..... I would love to see the franchise in Jon's hand....
Disney Star Wars formula:
Put that character in this new show for 30 seconds and we will make money 🥰
👏👏👏👏👏👏
That’s exactly what I’ve been thinking for ages - Dave, Jon, Sam and Tony
1) make a random main character
2) put the name of a beloved character as the show title
3) make show about the random main character 4) Make Kathleen Kennedy the director
Add Bryce Dallas Howard to that list. She was the director of TBOBF episode 5.
Furthermore, I think there are some good writers/directors for _The Clone Wars._
I basically just wanna remind people, especially when it comes to _Andor,_ that the great creative minds named in this video cannot and have not done it alone.
Wow, your blunt candour from start to finish is so laughably refreshing...
May The Force Continue To Be With You!
Disney plus customer service is really bad as well 😢. My atmos wasn’t working and they told me to kick rocks basically
