The songs: 1. Kings of Leon-Use Somebody 2. The Cure-Boys Don't Cry 3. The Killers-Somebody Told Me Nice rare as hen's teeth Gibson, and GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREAT songs! Happy #WeirdAssWednESday, everybody!
Wow I've never seen one of those before! I was somewhat surprised that they did not seem to be overly trebly which I normally expect from a single coil. I had a friend with a Melody Maker but that was more than 40 years ago and I don't really remember much about how it sounded. Getting to see crazy new stuff like this is why I love guitar of the day!
We’re in the back room of Norman’s Rare Guitars. Welcome back to another day of Guitar Of The Day. It’s Thumpin’ Thursday. Remember that ES 320 from Weird Ass WednESday... yeah, it’s out of here. Sold it.
I had the great privilege of purchasing one of these rare gems. Cherry finish, double-switches, embossed pickups. Tuners were swapped but I still have the originals. It is also missing the bridge cover like several I've seen listed online. It's a fun guitar to play for certain types of music. However, it is not suitable for high-gain applications. The single coils lose their luster and become scratchy and obnoxious like a swarm of bees just awoke inside the guitar. As you heard in the video it has nice tone for several applications. Amazing guitar. Looks like the owner also swapped the bridge out along with the switches. Thanks for the video everyone. The ES-320 is truly a rare piece of Gibson history.
Neck Pickup: Use Somebody - Kings Of Leon Middle Pickup: Boys Don't Cry - The Cure Bridge Pickup: Don't know I have literally never heard of this guitar, like what the hell is that..? It still sounds kinda cool though, I'll give it that
That guitar has to be totally rare. It has the hardware of the SG 100, 200, and 250. I bought a 250 in 1972. It was my first Gibson electric. I've had 2 or 3 SG 250 since. I tend to buy guitars, restore them, and sell them for a loss.
I know this is a year old. But the bridge cover is missing. And they came with plastic bridge saddles originally. Wish i could find some bridge saddles for mine.
I ve owned one in cherry red for almost 40 years. Probably going up for sale before too long. Not sure if Mark mentioned it but that one is missing the bridge cover.
Hey, Mark, how bout you scroll the shout outs along the bottom or at the end like on a movie screen where they play the end credits , comprise is what moves us along
¡¡ NEVER SEEN THIS MODEL !! SO LET'S HEAR IT NOW MARK IT'S SO MUDDY MAN MUDDY WHAT CAN YOU SAY BOUT IT NOT MUCH USEABLE TONE ?!!?!!?!!?!!?!!?!!?!!?!!?!!?!!?!!?!!?!!? THE BRIDGE P UP IS BETTER LIKE A 1964 GUILD STARFIRE THE GIBSON CRUDMASTER CARLOS GUITARLOS USA HIGHLAND PARK L.A.90042
Very awesome guitar of the day Mark and Jen! I believe that guitar is the one that guitarist John Fahey used in his later years when he went electric.Once again you guys have educated me on some really rare guitars!!!
Or shoutouts could be moved to a different area code or possibly another country completely... (do you suppose those Andertons folks would be interested?)
Hey Mike..... Can I get a shout out. I am Guitar of the Day's biggest fan all the from Namibia, Africa. Been watching every single show everyday.... Rock on!!!
Great Weird Ass Wednesday. Never even heard of an ES-320. Loved it and great song choices. And feel free to do more shoutout-free days. Save them for when it really matters.
Here's an idea: do the shout-outs at the END of the video. That way I (and many others) can watch the good stuff and opt-out from hearing about the third anniversary of Aunt Tilly's second goiter operation and how much she'd love to hear a Huber banjo in celebration. Please. Stop. Love the 320 though.
Ken H just a little FYI you know RUclips gives you the option to skip through the parts of the video you don’t want to watch right? If you don’t like the shoutouts just skip through them cause you definitely don’t have to watch them
Sam Williams just as a little FYI RUclips allows you to skip comments you don’t like and you don’t have to respond either lol. Shout outs are terrible! I’m with Ken H.
I don’t give a shit about some random stranger’s birthday, but I’m pretty neutral as long as he keeps it to himself. I can’t imagine what kind of a desperate moron you’d have to be to want someone to read your name in a RUclips video. It’s one of saddest, most pathetic things I’ve ever seen.
Hey Mark could you explain the diff between the Epiphone Casino John Lennon played on the Rooftop of Apple Corps on "Get Back" and this Gibson ES-330 ?
That's a winner. Its an ES and a weird ass machine. I have one the cool things about being my age and being around guitars you get to a little of everything. Its been years since I last saw one of those it was maple as well. But had the two slider switches on it. I noticed right away. Vox vox
So how many of you who watch this series religiously know that Mark is not just a Vintage Guitar Enthusiast and a great player but he also writes his own songs and sings? If you ever get jealous of mark and wish you could trade places with him and his life and his job. Keep in mind he basically had to give up all of the potential he could have had as an artist and songwriter and performer to get where he is at in his life right now. He even recorded a whole album of his songs, spent a good chunk of money on it but decided not to release it pretty recently. At that point he realized he couldn’t squeeze in being a songwriter and artist and performer and also be a Dad and store manager of a guitar store at the same time he had to give up three of those things just to do what he is doing right now
In my humble opinion, single-coils always sound fantastic on a hollowbody. Best of two worlds - biting & glassy tone and smooth feel of a medium scale. I would definitely love to have this one. Oh, and the "Gibson" logo looks great on a light-coloured headstock, btw:)
Mike M. Hey, I thought you would be at work. Playing with your cell phone at work. Boy, that must be a cush job lol. Hey, I'm moving closer to you. While I spent two and a half months in that recovery ward, my wife got a wild hair up.....you know, and sold our house. I'll be in Bradenton Fl. In 3 months. I learned not to leave your wife in charge while away more than a week lol
I dunno.....It's kinda like E.T........In which he's so ugly that he's cute. There's something about this that I think is gorgeous. I've never owned a hollow-body, but could SO see me playing this. I'd like to hear it through a tweed....I'm incredibly curious about the tone of it....
gus dupree Yeah......My 'brilliant' @ss had paused the video to make my comment, and when I posted it, I exited out of youtube with the errant thought I'd watched the whole thing. I did it totally sober, too. That's the sad thing.
This Gibby is unusual not weird? Says Capt Notsoobvious..:-) 1.Kings Of Leon "Use Somebody" 2 The Cure "Boys Don't Cry" sure sometimes..next 3.The Killers "Somebody Told Me" Nice! Till next time...
it's a little amazing that Gibson even made this one with the carved maple top - why use the best wood for a bottom-of-the-line guitar? But a good gritty sound - and it is loverly
Cool guitar. The neck pick up was surprisingly THICK. The bridge however sounded like ICE PICKY HOT GARBAGE. Blonde Finish over maple is always rad though. Thanks guys!!! Byeeee 🎸🔥🎸🔥
1:48 to skip the shoutouts
João Vitor Brandão Thank you Joao !!!!!

Wow I've never seen one of those before! I was somewhat surprised that they did not seem to be overly trebly which I normally expect from a single coil. Possibly the best video you've made Mark. Awesome playing and displaying that guitar. Great video Jen (-;
Your a good dude Mark. I know those shout outs are a pain. But you do em anyway. Such good people in music. That's why I watch. Thanks
Clay’s birthday is tomorrow

Thanks Mark and Jen. I watch these every day. 🤘
Nice and clean! Tomorrow is my wife Randi and my 10th Anniversary. No shout out requested. I'm a bass guy but love watching guitar of the day.

By far my favorite guitar I've seen on this show so far! SUPER COOL
I had the great privilege of purchasing one of these rare gems. Cherry finish, double-switches, embossed pickups. Tuners were swapped but I still have the originals. It is also missing the bridge cover like several I've seen listed online.

Neck Pickup: Use Somebody - Kings Of Leon
Middle Pickup: Boys Don't Cry - The Cure
Bridge Pickup: Don't know
I have literally never heard of this guitar, like what the hell is that..? It still sounds kinda cool though, I'll give it that

Jake Rose Dammit, I didn't recognize it at first
Aunt bee ,oh ,Andy

I caught that too
Fail 😂
Damn those single coils sound fierce
That guitar has to be totally rare. It has the hardware of the SG 100, 200, and 250. I bought a 250 in 1972. It was my first Gibson electric. I've had 2 or 3 SG 250 since. I tend to buy guitars, restore them, and sell them for a loss.
I wish you guys do a Gibson 325 someday!!!
Thanks for the Melodic Memories!!!
This is so rad dude.... And get well soon Eric #ALLCAPSFORERIC
The Cure and the Killers! Mark's setting my little emo heart a-flutter today!
Yes! I knew you could do it, Mark! This makes me extra happy to see a Weird-ASS ES on Wednesday! And the guitar sounds amazing! :D
Mark, thanks for doing these every day man, you are the shit bro.
Hard to believe this guitar is 45 years old. Looks brand new.
David Campbell it's 46
Hmmm, the electronics & hardware from an SG-200/250 (same time period) in a semi. I love those MM pickups.
Man that’s cool! Thanks Mark and Jen.
ERIC! wishing you the best!
Episode 486. I like it. Didn't know these existed.
Kinda reminds me of my Kay Jimmy Reed thin twin, year like 1958 or 60 something. Correct me? Lipstick sounding?
Hey, Mark, how bout you scroll the shout outs along the bottom or at the end like on a movie screen where they play the end credits , comprise is what moves us along
Man loving the ES Wednesdays but you know what is just as good? A Maton! Gotta do a Maton!
this is actually the first guitar on this show that I am considering going into debt for.
Shout out to Erik! Get better bro! Sending you good vibes from Hungary!

GuitarlosCarlos everything has it's place, but yeah I hear GC
Mark, you could change GOTD into ES GOTD every day of the week and I would love this show even more.
Very awesome guitar of the day Mark and Jen! I believe that guitar is the one that guitarist John Fahey used in his later years when he went electric.Once again you guys have educated me on some really rare guitars!!!
Friendly suggestion: how about moving shoutouts to the end of video? Probably would make both sides happy. Win win!
Or shoutouts could be moved to a different area code or possibly another country completely...
(do you suppose those Andertons folks would be interested?)
Or just skip the beginning of the video
Hey Mike..... Can I get a shout out. I am Guitar of the Day's biggest fan all the from Namibia, Africa. Been watching every single show everyday.... Rock on!!!
Great Weird Ass Wednesday. Never even heard of an ES-320. Loved it and great song choices. And feel free to do more shoutout-free days. Save them for when it really matters.
This was a damn awesome Guitar of the Day
I love that guitar. Really cool. I have a 78 RD standard, pretty weird. Bought it for 100 bucks in 1981
I am sooo into this one 😍
Thanks for reminding me, I gotta buy some mustard.

Nothing wrong with that. it's a shame it's not still in the catalogue
Hey Mark could you explain the diff between the Epiphone Casino John Lennon played on the Rooftop of Apple Corps on "Get Back" and this Gibson ES-330 ?
Hey Eric get well soon

Killer songs! Killer guitar! Totally dig it!
I had one of these. Very rare. You never see them. It was affordable, so I was able to get one.
I like the black binding on yellow, its a good look.
OH NO HE'S COMBINED THE STREAMS!!
Beautiful guitar, I've seen pictures only, thought it was amazing and I guess it is
Shout out to my dad. He's a 91 year old WWII vet. Today's his birthday.
The control plate on that looks cool. Plus, I bet it would make pickup swaps easier then on a 335.
Really dig it. Hope you get better Erick.
I love this one! The perfect weird ass wednESday guitar!
Mark's a really good dude
For some reason during that Kings of Leon song it reminded me of the end of Layla by E.C.
It has a pretty raw sound from those single coils. That plus the hollow body must make it feedback like crazy though.
Eric Sumpter feel better bro! What a cool guitar! Definitely an oddball.
One of my favorite cure albums is boys don’t cry
I can dig it.
Mr.Stranger ....indubitably......
Fender jazz 62 D U H - G 😂
Fender jazz 62 ah sweet, east coast bound. a mere 2000 miles from me, due south. Congrats!
I dunno.....It's kinda like E.T........In which he's so ugly that he's cute.
There's something about this that I think is gorgeous. I've never owned a hollow-body, but could SO see me playing this.

Mike Habic well it just that Mark is about to play...
gus dupree Yeah......My 'brilliant' @ss had paused the video to make my comment, and when I posted it, I exited out of youtube with the errant thought I'd watched the whole thing.
I did it totally sober, too. That's the sad thing.
I think the 330 was gone by then ? you forgot the ES325 with the mini humbuckers ?
Beautiful guitar
I bet that it will be sold soon
This Gibby is unusual not weird? Says Capt Notsoobvious..:-) 1.Kings Of Leon "Use Somebody" 2 The Cure "Boys Don't Cry" sure sometimes..next 3.The Killers "Somebody Told Me" Nice! Till next time...
Bodyknowledge 77--- Narcissist
Curtis John Cole I ain't no dang arsonist..I extinguish my shit..I'm an artist:-)
Bodyknowledge 77-- Pretty good, pretty, pretty good
"Curb your enthusiasm"-- Larry David
Would be nice to see a Squier JV Stratocaster one day.
It Makes the ultimate pop-rock guitar , to me
Whaaat? A 72 guitar made in 74 & 75? What sorcery is this?
That makes it REALLY weird.
It stayed in the warehouse until gibby decided to release it ,fun fact
72 Gibson ES-330 TD great Demo Mark. #MGGA #weirdasswednesday cheers! 🤘🏻🎸🔥⚡️🍻
Love that big fat headstock!!
Hey Mike! Say hallo for me! Adriano from Brazil! I loved this freaking Gibson!
more cure plz
Get well soon Eric
Gooooood vibes Eric
Best sounding single coils out there. My 1964 MM is my main morningstar.
Hi Mark have you should do an old, pre-Gibson Epiphone archtop.
It would be a fun change of pace.
Keep up the good work!
That thing is awesome!
Why not TDN? Did they only come in natural?
Not my favourite pick-up tones, by a long way! Still educational and fun, well done Mark & Jen!
I love shout-outs!!!
So what year is it? You said they only made from 74-75, but the description says 72... weird, but cool guitar, not sure about that bridge though.
Do a Peavey T-40 bass or T-60 guitar!
Ian I had a T60 years ago, I miss it
Mike Mixer
I've got a T-40 and they're heavy beasts for sure, but man do they have tone for days
Ian I have asked for the same thing with no luck. Get it, young man!
It's Normans "rare" guitars. Reverb has 8 T60s right now.
Paul JustPaul
I wouldn't call all the 1970s strats they've done rare, but whatever floats your boat man.
Sounds cool!
it's a little amazing that Gibson even made this one with the carved maple top - why use the best wood for a bottom-of-the-line guitar? But a good gritty sound - and it is loverly
The Jacket and Jen with another great gotd.
Damn nice guitar. love the rare n unusual. this channel fukin rocks!
never seen one of these!
Cool guitar. The neck pick up was surprisingly THICK. The bridge however sounded like ICE PICKY HOT GARBAGE. Blonde Finish over maple is always rad though. Thanks guys!!! Byeeee 🎸🔥🎸🔥
Holy shit that is cool!!
