Life Goals Before Resolutions

- From an earlier video, a friend asked the question, “Bill, how do you determine your life goals?” In this video, we’ll discuss that during this season of making New Year’s resolutions. I’ll share how my approach to this has changed over the years, especially as retirement approached. We’ll look at a tool to help identify ‘good’ goals.

Another great mission Bill. Taking time to 'stop and smell the roses' is certainly an achievable goal to set in life's fast-paced ways. It's my #1 for 2025. Looking forward to this year's Wander and Ponder adventures.
Thanks! Looking forward to what 2025 has in store for all of us.
Good topic. I never did resolutions. "What do you want to be when you grow up?" was something I was asked in my life, and didn't care for the expected specificity. Early on I chose to not choose to aim for a specific "something". When I was younger (20's) my general goals were focused on broad learning and to be productive in my specific areas of responsibility. After that (30's-40's) I added to be flexible, trustworthy, and reliable. After those (40's-50's...) I added larger focus on being useful and available. These are all additive over time and a bit non-specific. In my experience they certainly helped open doors to gain knowledge and provide value year after year.
I edited out of the video a section on that "what do you want to be when you grow up?" question. I like the aspect you brought up of things being additive. Thanks for watching and for sharing your thoughts.
At different times in my youth I had similar resolutions to those you shared Bill: get straight A’s in school, join a high school team, survive basic training. I don’t recall starting the year with New Year’s resolutions that I kept for very long. Now my focus seems to be on trying to be a kinder, more thoughtful person to everyone that I encounter, and selfishly sharing experiences with my wife and four kids to create good memories for each of us. I’m a work in progress though so I know that I’m going to make mistakes; I just have to find my way back to the right path.
We are all works in progress. Thanks for sharing!
No New Year's resolutions for me; I have always felt that resolutions can and should be made and begun at any time of year.
As has been mentioned, I believe we are all a work in progress or should strive to be.
At times we can only take "baby steps" forward, and at times we deal with unexpected setbacks or roadblocks, or find we've made a wrong turn along the way. That's when you have to take a deep breath, reexamine your path, and just keep moving forward.
Baby steps is possibly a future topic😀 Thanks for sharing!
Thoughtful…curious…kind…fun. A worthy vision…a goal well achieved. Both time-bounded and eternal…you remind us that vision quest and goal attainment are ever present and never ending. May we all be as inspired and inspiring in our own journey as you have been…and continue to be…in yours. Thanks and best….😊
Thanks JB. Happy New Year!
