My dad had one of these. Was a purchased show car. So it was decked out to the max with chrome roll bars, wheels, motor, t-tops, traction bars, dash, etc... Well when he got it, NO longer a show car. He drove it often, and was brave enough to hand the keys to 2 teenage boys. MAN, if that car could talk.....mom would have never road in it again....lol. Dad got a state personal license plate "HACK", for he loved Basket Ball.....That motor with a 4:11 rear end, would burn out through every gear, even with chrome traction bars on rear 50's. Watching this took me down memory lane for sure. Nice video I enjoyed.
Reminds me of my '75. Fun times! Always wanted a '73 SD. I drive a Recaro '81 now. The little turbo motor is very finicky, for the limited power it makes. Likes about 97 octane gas, so that means 93 octane blended with race gas. I can only imagine what the SD engine feels like!
This one is the base 455, not the SD. However, drop on some 6X heads and a 1971 cast iron intake manifold and you have an instant SD-455 contender. With improved gas mileage to boot.
This was my car for senior year of high school. Mine was a regular 455 w/TH400 automatic, and a 3.08 rear end. Same exterior color (Buccaneer Red), but while the seats were white, the dash, carpet, console, etc. were Firethorn Red (Burgundy). It had almost as much torque as the Super Duty, but only 250 HP net. The valves were relatively small, and the air injection pump was a big drag. It also had the old points based distributor. I believe the '75 switched to an electronic ignition. The car needed constant cleaning and adjustment of the points, and the timing often needed to be reset. The 3.08, 10 bolt rear wasn't great for drag racing purposes, and it only netted a top speed of around 125 mph. I think it averaged 12-13 miles per gallon.
@@chutoparadinni5474 Then so was the normal 455, because I raced an SD455 that another student at my HS owned, and the difference wasn't that pronounced. I understand the differences, but in street trim, his SD455 was not that much faster. 1974 was a horrible year for emissions controls. Now they don't take such a huge toll on performance, but in '74 most car makers were trying to meet emissions standards without fuel injection, engine computers, electronic ignitions, O2 sensors and catalytic converters.
No wonder there are always ALL likes and NO dislikes. The only way to view these SD-455 videos is to SEARCH them lmao. '74 is a special year for the F Bodies. Gotta be that back window, heh. ;) I miss my slow@$$ '81 TA, but these cars ARE STYLE. The earlier years with the 455 ,403 ,400 were really fast, even for today. Metal will never die!
Another awesome video! Really brings me back. Thanks for posting! Please keep em coming! Ohhh that sound! I don't know how you do it but you capture the sounds better than anyone on the tube!! Great job! I tell all my gearhead friends to check out your vids.
Thanks Greg! Oh they are coming!! Subscribe wait and see. I have several to load in the next few days, from an exotic Aston Martin to an Impala, Mustangs old and new and more. Enjoy the channel and thanks for the good word!! Trying to do better stuff, got some killer microphones and video cameras.
Beautiful car mine was a 1976 Trans Am 455 7.2 It needed some work with the Bondow and new paint the front nose was cracked But that engine was so damn loud inside the cockpit of the car And I had glass packs for the exhaust it really Was so loud and fast I remember that I was super high on my pain medicine and I gunned it On the gas pedal it broke the front seat the front dashboard came loose Those tires they almost caught on fire yes Pontiac is a mean ass car It’s a race car Pontiac Trans Am I love American cars hell yeah Pontiac Firebird Trans Am and what helped it so much more I was playing my favorite music the doors LA woman. Meh....JK! Great car! Beautiful! Bad time for power-chocking pollution control add-ons. My '76 had like a measly 220 HP. My 2016 Charger has twice that.
Never cared for the front end of the 74-76 Firebirds. Too much Camaro influence. Nice car but by 74 the 455 was smogged to death down to around 265 HP. Of course this one probably isn't stock anymore.

Wow thanks for the GREAT compliment! Thats what I do, appreciate you watching, subscribe and don't miss the newest videos - SAM
What a beauty! Love the honeycomb wheels too.
Badass!! I've had 3 TA's in the past. A 71, 73, & a 87 GTA.
Check out my 87. Let me know if it looks like yours.
Greg Hansen Where is your 87 TA?
Driver got the right haircut and shades for 1974!!
Haha nice! Thanks for watching Samspace81
The small window at the back looks much nicer than 76 upwards..love it.
Appreciate you watching

The SD was Highly underrated by PMD.

I drive a 1974 super duty Trans Am and it’s the most amazing car I have ever drove. I also drive a 1977 can am, they are about tied for the best cars.
Awesome! I've been in two under throttle, love them. Thanks for watching Samspace81
I own a 74 SD 455 TA also, have owned it for 10 years now. Killer
Awesome car reminded me of the movie cannonball thanks for posting 😉👍🏻
Thanks as always! I have fun doing these car videos, slammed lately with them! More to come. Great stuff too.

Best of the best!

Nice car. Hoping it was a SD - sounds good considering it's not stock. :).
This is the first generation of Pontiac FireBird, this car is awesome.
Really its the 2nd generation! They made them 67 to 69 too, similar body to Camaro. Thanks for checking it out!
i thought this is the first generation, cause the model looked more like almost similar with the first generation.
Mr. MostWanted starting in 1970 1/2 those are called 2nd Generation. Any Trans Am with the " engine looking dashboard" are 2nd gens.

The last muscle car of the era. Pontiac was slick to get this past the pencil pushers in Detroit.
Love it, John DeLorean was the man
Such a beautiful firebird, is it original? Always preferred Firebirds to Camaros, looked nicer and seemed to be assembled better.
Is that a regular 455 or the 455 SD? Any work done to the engine? Sounds real healthy!
Warmed over
oooo i would like to smell those exhaust pipes
waths name for the music?
fact:it was optional to buy a firebird trans am without the trans am decals
bullshit , the decals are optional.
👍

Interesting stuff
what size wheels are those?
17s if I remember right
really mean T/A
It's in Kuwait now :)
I bought the car from him, and we freshened couple of things in it in Kuwait.
@@DRIFTRQ8 Thanks for chiming in here

Yeah slow but cool. Thanks for watching, Jeff
WANT
How much did it go for?
Confidential
looks like fuel guage and volt meter do not work
Could have been, can't remember
Definitely not the original horn.
Never cared for the front end of the 74-76 Firebirds. Too much Camaro influence.

Shes got a nice cam and runs out KILLER. Thanks for checking it out! I like 'em!
