Easy access from BTS Nana & Asoke with many Bars Restaurants & Hotels. Cheap Charlies was one of the most famous Bars, but now unfortunately, due to re development has now gone for ever.
This is what it used to be like?

Great hotels line either side of the street, some of which have roof top pools, & at night the Roof top bars.
Many great Restaurants also with live music to entertain you as you dine.
You will also find many different kinds of street food to try.
If you want more night life close, you can try Nan Plaza on Soi 4
or jump a tuk tuk to Soi Cowboy.
All great fun for the over 18s.

Hi geoff your making me envious i still have 53 days to go till i am there but your right the noise the smells bloody great place and if you get to hot you just duck into a 7/11 or a shopping mall or somewhere with aircon ,its great you are showing bangkok take care .

Worked the oilfields (Arabian Gulf) and made first trip to BKK 1979, stayed Federal Hotel Soi 11, an old US military R+R joint run by the Thai mafia, Kat was the main shooter and we hired a driver and car for a whole week for $100 and they would take you anywhere, anytime and just wait for you and in those days the Thai's hadn't been used to so many of us farang so in my unimportant opinion they were the golden days.
Been back many times since, stayed Ambassador (superb) and i still love Thailand and the people but sadly they are too 'westernised' compared to the good old days.

Surprising how much it has changed in 30 years. I really miss the old Sukhumvit when falang were few and everything well almost everything was Thai. From soi 22 to soi cowboy I would walk past three different VD Clinics, non of which I luckily didn't need to visit. I still see a few of the original mamasans/barstaff from the mid 80's in Cowboy's. Last year 2016 I chatted with one of the mamasans outside suzy wongs or was it moonshine joint, we remembered each other and she remembered my ex bar girl Dokaew, from Miss T's bar (it was opposite Tilac bar) she also told me she'd worked that soi almost every night in the last 40 years. She must be near 65 or more and still wears here red and white number badge and is probably available if you wish. What a life and a great thai lady. Sadly its not like that anymore with all the pretending expat no-all thai culture expert foeigner bullshitters.
I visited Thailand for the first time early 90's! Bangkok has changed in 25 years! I used to enjoyed these Gogo bars on Soi cow-boy with just a few friendly girls! it was fun! Today, it's just money! Soi cow boy look like Las Vegas with those bright lights! Too many tourists ruined Thailand! Sad, I love Thailand.

Great restaurant called Above Eleven on top of the Fraser Suites down the bottom of Soi 11. Cracking spot but expensive.
What makes you cont to rtn to Thailand? Malaysia is another place to see. Not much tourists low key good beaches and modern cities. Langkawi,KL,Penang,Tioman island.
Soi 11 is always good as is Soi 7. Zak’s closed pretty shortly after this video was made but Zanzibar is still very much open with live music and good food. The alley with Charlie’s used to be good. The restaurant you mentioned with the foliage and mosquitoes you were about right, we sat there one night and a 2 inch beetle landed on me from above. The food there is fantastic and there’s always a queue. Soi 11 went under a lot of changes in the last few years. Nice area though.
Great videos Geoff, love them, I'll be back for 3 week over Xmas and new year, my 3rd time this year :-) lol, soi 11 is where I stay in bkk, I stay at aloft hotel brilliant hotel with good rooms and with good friendly staff, I just want to get back there now thailand is the place to be, have fun mate and keep smiling :-))
Nice vlog Geoff. Shame about cheap charlies. What i always loved about bkk was that there were little hidden gems everywhere, whether it be a bar, restaurant, noodle shop, massage shop, street market etc. Sadly they are all slowly being squeezed out in the name of development and in 10 or 20 years time it will just be another city full of sky scrapers and shopping malls and the uniqueness will be gone.

Would've appreciated it you had started from the beginning of the SOI and gone inwards right up to Fraser suites, with views of hotels and pubs etc along the way.

Yes, these tuck-tuck take you to a store and they usually gets gasoline coupon. What you do is that you cut a dealer with the tuck-tuck driver. To cash that gas coupon he needs to bring 3 customers (visits) to the shop. You tell the shop manager that you have been in the shop 3 times before, then The tuck-tuck guy gets his coupon and can drive you wherever you like to go.
Hi Geof great video stayed in Grand President many times and in the Tower 3 same as you very good rooms , be good if you did a video down the Chao Prayer river to Wat Poh and Wat Arun temples be interesting to see Wat Arun now after its restoration work had scaffolding up for last 2 years ,keep smiling 1 more week be there myself

Soi 11 has to be the skankiest bit of bangkok after n.e.p but I absolutely love watching videos on the place! People watching is on another level here

nice video mate , we used to stay on Soi 15 at the Manhattan quite a bit ... a lot quieter road but still only 2 mins from underground and skytrain and plenty of restaurants and bars and the cowboy is just round the corner

Stayed in the main block of Grand President a few years ago, nice rooms and the area is really good for food and beers.

i drank in the german place last night. Nice lil alley way. the ambassador is not a bad hotel on that strip. Oh wow I just ate breakfast in that alley way restaurant near the former cheap charlies!
I stayed where you were in 2007, close to Nana, Gulliver's & Bier Bar, but did not know there was a pool on the roof...Damn big hotels shoving out those little bars & shops will be the ruination of Bangkok...

Hey Geoff what's up with the street vendors, I have heard that they are being made to stop selling on the street's. What is your view on how this is going, are they disappearing or are there still alot on the roads ?
I use to stay on Soi 11. About 5 years ago there was a lot of street food. Is there still street food during the day? I don't see much.

We stayed at Grand Business inn hotel there on soi 11,, the rooms are small but the food down stairs out the front is bloody good,,
