I have the same van with the light that comes on once in a while. The van starts up and no issues. Just a tip on starting the sprinter you don’t have to hold the key over when you start it. If you turn and release it will continue to crank.

Just discovered your channel, you are absolutely great at what you do. Could you please do videos on manual clutches, brakes, suspension, wheel bearing repairs/replacements and general servicing, using the scan tool reset the engine/oil, electronic parking brake, diesel particulate filter and TPMS/sensors. These are my major interests and specialties, not so much of diagnosis, which is also great to know as an auto tech, don’t get me wrong.

Love your channel and your diagnostic thought process and the way you explain what you are doing. I recently diagnosed my 10 year old alternator in my Toyota Camry as being weak and on the way out. It was putting out only 13.3 volts running fully loaded up and it failed the ripple test using the cheap battery tester I bought from harbor freight although the battery tested good. I did replace the alternator with a non OEM “premium” alternator off of Amazon. It’s now showing 14.4 volts running and fully loaded but I’m definitely thinking about getting my OEM Denso alternator overhauled and ready just in case.

good video. I thought you were going to check the voltage regulator brushes, maybe instead of buying whole unite you can only buy voltage regulator

Another excellent video, thank you. I did not know how to test the signal from the ECU.
I agree with you 100% about not using after market alternators. However, when the alternator failed on my OM642 i sourced a genuine Valeo unit for less than half the cost of a dealer alternator. Valeo made the alternators for Mercedes. I am guessing that your new alternator was a valeo unit and you paid handsomely for the mercedes box.

probably a bad regulator or brushes much cheaper than whole alternator if available.
