    A very informative video. I am in the uk and buying a 5125r
    You are to the point, your explanations are clear and contain just the right level of detail.
    I hope JD take your pointers about Lights and the sun shade. Easy fixes to make the working day easier.
    Thank you, I really enjoyed it.

But seeing the dealer didn't have one in stock your videos helped me in determining options etc etc. Hopefully I can do the same and make some videos once I get it. mbarber84 you bet, subbed a few days ago :) what’s the tractor like with a heavy load on the loader and the short wheelbase? I shift a lot of heavy round bales. Will definitely load the read tyres and add wheel weights too

    • @mbarber84
      @mbarber84  5 лет назад +1

      Luke B i think the tractor does well. I may add the loader suspension system soon to reduce some of the shock the loader takes and improve overall ride quality. I use the tractor primarily for handling 4x5 round bales as well do I get what you’re saying. I think you will be pleased.

    It seems the 5R is totally a different machine from the 5E.
    I checked some of the older 5E and I'm a way they look similar to the Mahindra 5000 and 6000 series.
    But this 5R is something else.

    1. Do you have push buttons on the rear fender to move the tractor forward and reverse for hooking up implements on the 3-point?
    2. Is it always in 4wd, or how do you activate 4wd.
    3. Is there a differential lock?
    4. As configured, what was the real price you paid for this?

    Nice video,very informative.Its always nice to hear from an owner instead of just a company promo video.I am considering buying one of these,so,like you,I'm looking for info.One question,does the traction hold good for that horsepower.I don't know the weight of the tractor,so I'm a little concerned that 125hp may overpower the traction.

    • @mbarber84
      @mbarber84  5 лет назад

      Thomas Daniel thanks for the compliments. Make sure you check out the other videos I’ve put together on the 5R, subscribe to my channel if you would like. In terms of breaking traction, I have not experienced any traction issues thus far. I have my machine ballasted with fluid in the rear tires as well as rear wheel weights. This, in combination with the Michelin radials, seems to give the tractor a sure grip on the ground. I haven’t done any heaving cultivation work with it yet, but I haven’t witnessed anything yet that would make me believe the tractor would have traction issues. If you have any questions on the machine don’t hesitate to ask!

    Fantastic video. I’m trying to decide between the 5125R and the 6110M. They end up around the same price point (or close enough considering how much you’re spending). Small farm doing mostly loader work but some bailing. Any thoughts?

    • @mbarber84
      @mbarber84  3 года назад

      Thanks Ryan. If you’re talking the new 6M series then you need to look at what you’ll be doing with the tractor to make that call. I went the 5R because it is more nimble and has a tighter turning radius because i use it inside my hay storage barn to move round bales and the slightly smaller size and tighter turning make it more agile inside. For field work the 6M may be a better choice. If your dealer has both machines in stock you should request a demo of each machine to help you in making that decision. If the tractors are equally equipped the 6M will be substantially more than the 5R, I’d say $20k - $30k more.

    • @maraudermitchelli
      @maraudermitchelli 5 лет назад +2

      That was so nice of you to measure it so soon. I have one drive through lane which is 88”…which is odd. I may have my guys cut the island. The issue is also the width of the snow pusher…but i’ll work on that. Your walk around video was excellent, i know how hard those are to make. God’s speed enjoy your farm and tractor.Thank you

    • @mbarber84
      @mbarber84  5 лет назад +2

      Marauder Mitchelli something to think about: if you’re going to use the tractor for on-road work like snow removal, you might want to order a tractor with the Nokian hakkapeliitta tires. They will give you unmatched on-road performance, especially in snow. They’ll also last far longer than agricultural tires.

    would you mind telling me if the electrohydraulic loader controller on the arm rest is a dealer option? i have been looking through 6 series tractors and resorting back to 5 series but cant find any info on that joystick on armrest and tractors it comes on. I want the convenience bad to enjoy the new purchase, but between brands with pricing differences, plus need slightly bigger tractor for large discs and subsoiler. that joystick could sell me if on the 6 series :)

    • @mbarber84
      @mbarber84  5 лет назад

      roush211 the electrohydraulic joystick is a factory installed option. I’m sure the dealer could install it after the tractor is built also if that was necessary. When I ordered my 5R it was something I selected on the options sheet. When building a 6R your choice between M-SCV or E-SCV for the mid valves will appear under the category of “Front Loader Preparation” on the options sheet. Mechanical mid valves are option code 8924 and electronic mid valves are option code 8926. I just built a 6R online to make sure those codes are correct. I hope that helps you!

    Great, great informative video. Thank you so much for sharing as I am thinking of purchasing one of these. Some questions if you don't mind Sir. Does your have the swivel seat? If so, how has that worked for you and did it come with the premium package? Also as of today, no one has reviewed this tractor on JD's website. Post your complaints there and it will get to the engineers quicker. Thanks again! GRN4LIFE!!!

    • @mbarber84

      Md Giddens yes mine has a swivel seat. It is standard on the 5R tractor. The seat swivels well and gives you much less neck strain when looking to the rear of the tractor. I never thought to add reviews to their site. I may write up an extensive review and post it there. I noticed after I posted this video that I omitted mentioning some other options that are available on this tractor. Mechanical cab suspension is one. I opted to leave the cab unsuspended because I didn’t like the idea of the cab bouncing around and moving with hard lines and wires passing through the cab structure. I know some other 5R owners have experienced issues related to cab suspension so leaving it off my tractor was no big deal. I also failed to mention the command arm option which I also did not add to my machine. If you have any specific questions please let me know and id be happy to help you.

    Thanks for the Video! Great work and very informative. I'm taking delivery of a 5115R next week. Its a 2019 slightly used ( 227hrs) in immaculate shape with all the current updates done to date. I was looking at front fenders, Turn-able like yours, for the same reason as you mentioned in your video, to keep the mud etc. off the window and the tractor. However, dealer says they are not compatible with the loader..and I'd need the loader frame mounted ones that look stupid and don't cover the wheel when turning. Are yours close to contacting anything on the loader frame in any particular steering direction or with the axle tilted? Seemed a little odd as I've sen them on several 5R series tractors. Thanks for any info you can provide.

      Ryan Ouellette thanks for the friendly compliment! As far as your question, it depends on which tires and which wheel offset your machine will be equipped with, however I would expect that you should be fine with the pivoting fenders. The pivoting ones on the 5R have a spring loaded pivot action built into the mounts. Not only do they pivot to follow the wheel as it turns, but they also will pivot on their own mounts if they come into contact with the body of the loader mount or tractor itself. I’m assuming your machine will be equipped with the 540R loader as well?

If your dealer is uninformed or unfamiliar with the 5R that might explain why there’s a discrepancy with what they’re telling you.

Slowly working towards starting a business doing some various custom work, bush hogging, roadside mowing, and possibly snow-blowing with an inverted blower (the bigger reason for fenders) in winter. Mike Jones thanks for the compliment. I’m glad you enjoyed the video and I hope it was helpful. In terms of a brush hog, I would say the 5125R would be suitable for a 10-15 foot brush hog. You have plenty of horsepower to spin the mower, it’s tongue weight that becomes the issue. If you’re working on flat level ground then it’s not going to be much of a concern. However, if you’re mowing steep hills like I do then you’re going to want 800-1000 lbs of suitcase weights on the front, or leave the front loader on it. Jake Kiddall that’s a complicated question. I would refer you to the operators manual found here:
      manuals.deere.com/omview/OMPXX10330_19/?tM=HO
      It all depends on which version of the loader you get MSL or NSL, how high you’re lifting, which tractor the loader is mounted on, how much counterweight and ballast you have, etc. I can tell you that I have lifted two 4x5 round bales with it effortlessly. Our bales usually average around 1,000 pounds each. Your 600kg squares would be approximately 1,350 pounds so you’re talking more weight than I have ever attempted to lift. The PFC hydraulics are certainly up to the task. They are incredibly powerful.

We went with the 5R because it is slightly smaller and far more maneuverable inside of my hay storage structure. The turning radius on the 5R will blow a 6R out of the water and it shorter overall. J. W. I would say yes given you are on level ground. You have plenty of PTO horsepower and the tractor isn’t “light”, but it is lighter than your 7210. You might even have more PTO horsepower than the 7210. If you’re baling steep ground you might want to be careful. The combination of lighter weight, smaller a size, and steep ground might not be a good idea. I guess it also depends on wether you’re making dry bales or silage bales too.

    • @mbarber84
      @mbarber84  3 года назад

      Yes I have had several issues with it since we took delivery, although I will say my dealer worked diligently to resolve them. Mostly all electrical faults. Multiple software updates, several emissions (EGR) related errors that eventually required the installation of updated hard components on the engine (new EGR valve of an updated design), transmission recalibration software updates, and some updates to the software that runs the computers (computers were not communicating with each other fast enough)
      All in all the tractor was in and out of service the first year pretty regularly. I was upset at first but I can say with confidence that the tractor seems to have been sorted out now. Deere engineering and my dealer worked hand in hand to get the tractor right. It is an excellent tractor for its size, but it is not perfect. If you’re looking to buy one, I would highly suggest you get your dealer to allow you to demo one for a few days/ weeks before buying. Also take a good hard look at the new 6120M they just came out with. Slightly larger but I find myself wishing I had waited because I feel the 6120M would have been a better match for my needs.

      I was wondering about all the electrical issues. I test drove a 5115R last week and I was concerned how abrupt the Command8 transmission shifted between gears. The salesman noted it prob needed a software update, and I wondered why that hasnt been done yet on a $100k tractor. But I will say my 5075M has never once been back to the dealer for repairs. Its been a solid tractor. So I guess my real question is..would you but that 5125R all over again? Thanks again..enjoyed all of your 5125R videos.

    • @mbarber84
      @mbarber84  3 года назад

      @@rickburman7387 I experienced similar abrupt shifts with my CommandQuad transmission and after some software updates, it did get better. Hydraulic fluid temperature effects those shifts too, so if you test drove one sitting on the lot and it was cold, I would say a part of the abruptness is due to cold fluid. However, the transmissions in these tractors are not very smooth. Shifts are more abrupt than what I experience in our larger Deere tractors. I would say overall, if I needed another tractor in this particular size, I would buy another 5R, but I would order it with features that were not available at the time I ordered mine. Primarily the front axle suspension. The 5R has an incredibly short wheelbase and as a result, it is rough-riding on certain types of terrain, or when encountering bumps on the roadway. Take a good look at the 6120M they just came out with. I find myself wishing I had purchased one of those instead. It is better suited to what I need, but at the time I ordered my 5R, they had not yet redesigned them. The new 6110m and 6120m have the shortened wheelbase and sloped hood design which increases maneuverability and visibility greatly. They also added all the new interior features to the cab.

Also, I have not seen those systems in person, because most JD dealers don't even have any 5R's in stock, much less a high-spec one. I had to drive 100 miles to the dealer that had only one 5R and it was very low-spec tractor. My machine also had the issue where the 4WD would lock in and not unlock when the button was pressed. This was addressed over this past summer. They uploaded all new programming in the computers and that problem went away. My mechanic told me that Deere has had issues with the various computers communicating with each other when the tractor is first turned on. Some computers boot up faster than others and then there’s a communication error at start up. They also replaced a terminating resistor in one of the wiring harnesses at the same time. I have had several minor issues with this machine in the 425 hours I’ve put on it since it was delivered new. They are good tractors but being a brand new design, they aren’t without their issues. Hi Joseph,
      Yes the 5R is equipped with a foot operated throttle pedal that works in conjunction with the hand throttle. Either one can be used to control the tractors engine speed. (RPM)
      The biggest difference between your 4R and the 5R, other than the obvious size and horsepower, will be in the transmission. The 5R`s gear driven transmission will operate very differently than your 4R's hydrostatic transmission. In the 5R your ground speed will be regulated by the selected Range, Gear, and throttle position. It`ll take some getting used to if you've only ever operated a hydrostatic transmission tractor, however you will have a lot more power at your disposal. If you need the larger tractor, and it fits your needs, I don't think you will be disappointed!

      @@josephkinghorn4885 yes you can use the auto clutch feature which allows you to use the brake pedal to come to a complete stop. The tractor will automatically disengage the clutch and then re engage it as you begin to release the brake pedal.

    Try Velcro to hold the sun roof open/closed.

      Chad Guerrero I’m going to give that a try. It’s probably the simplest way to fix the issue. Just wish Deere had thought that through a little more completely. A latch would have been an easy addition when they were designing it. Thanks for the comment!

      mbarber84 yeah JD Doesn’t have a good R/D department. Any serious testing should have identified the sun shade issue early.

    Great review, but NO 1000speed PTO?? fairly standard in Europe to have 540/1000, not saying it has on a European version of this tractor, just amazed that it hasn't.

      This tractor has 1000 PTO, I neglected to mention that in the video. I was doing that all from memory and missed a few things here and there. The shaft has to be flipped over in order to use the 1000 PTO
