I always wondered why it was divided 🧐

- To understand the context, we have to go back to 1910, when Korea was first annexed by the Empire of Japan.
Fast forward to the end of world war II, and after Japan’s surrender, it is forced to lose Korea. The United States and Soviet Union agree on a provisional partition of Korea through the 38th parallel. In the upper half, the Soviet Union established a communist regime, and in the southern half, the united states established an anti-communist regime.
But this isn’t the end of the story. North Korea wanted to unite the peninsula under a communist regime by invading South Korea. With the help of the Soviet Union and the newly-established Communist China, they launched their attack. South Korea was extremely close to being taken over, but with the help of the United States and The United Nations, they were able to take back most of the island. After 3 years of fighting, a ceasefire left the peninsula divided in two. To this day, this border remains the exact same.

Well most Latin America is democratic yet still very poor . And that’s caused by years of being colonized, having their societal structural and native economy destroyed and precious resources taken away from them, it’s very difficult to recover. While N.K spends over X % of its annual income on military maintenance... personally I think the USA should have only given N.Korea 25-35% of Korea lands when it push it North since this is one of the examples where the 'bad actor' pays no consequences and the world often offers a deal to go back to the original borderline and enable the aggressors to have the time to regroup and rebuild their army once again =/

Mistakes: China didn’t join the war until the south pushed the north up to the Chinese border
Not sure if true but tbh i wouldnt be surprised if that true. Americans like to turn history their way and antagonize countries like china just to bully the competition. Thats what people commonly call a toxic relationship but for some reason, people enjoy it when its done by the usa
That is the fact. He twisted this history around.
Yap, they were so close to Yalu river
Some of the maps that I saw of the Korean war that showed the the battle lines had the US and other nations actually taking territory inside China and then that was when the Chinese got involved because China warned everybody saying don't cross the border and they did cross the border and across the border significantly. And that caused China to enter the war on a major scale, which tipped the hand and forced the the line where we're at and the treaty well the ceasefire there is no treaty so technically the conflict still goes on. Oh yeah and another thing, the ceasefire was signed by the generals, not the North Korean leader who was opposed to it. The generals were done with the fighting and signed the ceasefire and it has been the North Korean government that has refused to sign a treaty

My great grandfather fought there as a sergent. He passed sometime after I was born in 1997.
Fun fact, ever since Korea was split until today, everybody in China especially the government has hated the Kim regime a lot, he was extremely desperate in reunifying Korea, Joeseph Stalin kept warning him that invading South Korea was risky, and he never listened. Due to his negligence in attacking South Korea drawing the US's attention, North Korea was almost reunified over by the US, so he got China involved into the war and wasted countless soldiers. China never wanted to help him, but they just didn't want the US to be their neighbour.
In China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau, we just see him as a crazy tyrant and call him 金三胖 or 肥金 which literally means "third generation fat Kim" or "fat Kim" everybody just photoshops the guy and mocks him because the way he treats his own people is absolutely ruthless.
yeah well china could single handedly save the poor suffering people of north korea, if the ccp would get over the fact about the neighbors thing. (which is incredibly petty) Is it really important enough that innocent people need to keep suffering?
I have a diplomatic solution. Why doesn’t China remove and replace the kim regime with a new communist government based on China’s own ccp? Then once it’s implemented, China could pull back out. That way there would still be a buffer zone between China and the west.

Approximately 50,000 ethnically Korean members of the PLA participated in the initial invasion. However, you’re right that China did not become formally involved until the UN push to the Yalu river

Me: because of US intervention
Remind me who established a direct puppet dictatorship that starved its own people to death in the north and who established a free-market economy in the south?
And soviet union
The first Govt of Korea is today the Govt of North Korea. After WW2, the existence of the Govt of Korea did not suit the US - So it formed the Govt of South Korea, with the help of Forces from Japan (enemies of the US during the previous year). The US and some from South Korea attacked Jeju Island, which was allied with North Korea, killing many of its people. This all happened before the War in Korea.
No because the north wanted to occupy the south and they failed
@Yakub they elected to be under the direct control of the soviet union?
Actually, although against Communism, South Korea was a dictatorship until a national protest turned it into a democracy in 1986. Is that correct?
Yeah you are right about that, when S.Korea still under "Military Junta" they are still poor even more poorer than N.Korea (thats is real fact) cause most of Korean industry under japanese rules are in the north sides near Chinese Borders thats why N.Korea more Rich than S.Korea until 80's or 90's when S.Korea already became more democratics and opened to the world markets.

the both speak korean, but different dialects
@@reedschultzgeo oh wow thank u for the information it's just that I've always wondered
They are almost identical, but some vocabulary and grammar differences are present as the two countries have been divided for more than 70 years. However, if the people of both countries meet, they would have no problem talking to each other.
@@user-fo1ix8cg6z I can't read korean 😅 but thanks ☺️ 😊
1 The North Koreans started the war and reached Busan. 2 It was not the Americans who came to the rescue, but the Turks fought with them with the help of the UN. 3 China USSR stalemate already stood up for Korea
Only the ussr and nk attacked south korea the first time, china only got involved later when south korea neared the chinese border
That's why we need to say thank you to America
No way
It is the one created and divided
America has been involved in 80% of wars since ww2 and they start most of them
America feeds on War.
@@HellonihaoJohnnyHola Soviets created the divide and it was Stalin who forced Kim Sung to attack South Korea. Stalin promised to provide aid and assistance to unify the peninsula under communism.

The funny things is, South Korea also had bloody dictarors, from 1960s to 1990s. But there was no communism however.
@@gamja0121 okay, thank you. I watched a Korean movie about Park Chun-hee, interesting story. What about Chun Doo-hwan? He also had a bloody moment in his career... in Gwangju.
thanks god that they didn't let them take south korea
Japan was bad ass

Well…yes. Japan was bad and ass
In World War II
The Korean War was Crazy
phillipines be like:withought me your useless
Just the other day I watched an incredible video showing both Korea’s at night. South Korea, especially Seoul, is brightly lit up like any developed country while the entirety of North Korea is dark except for Pyongyang which is barely a flicker of light.
I really like south korea 🇰🇷 kpop song and k drama 🤗💕
Thanks
You picked the worst things that south korea has
Nice :)
Bro saw a video about the history of the Korean War and had to mention kpop out of all things 💀
Bruh forgot that Philippines help too😱😤
The South was never fully overrun by the north..Also, the 38th Parallel is somewhat south of where it is shown on this map animation.
Okay me being a history nerd I can tell you there are many things wrong with this video like the 38th Parallel is in the wrong spot
