The one character missing in this video in my humble opinion is the Flash. He's a pretty huge and important DC hero. And Lemire is a great writer, but his Green Arrow was not the actual Green Arrow. That one is featured in the pages of the Rebirth run by Benjamin Percy. Fun, emotional, deep and action packed. THAT'S Ollie how he should be.
It feel good when you have all the books you've mentioned. I recommend... Hawkman by Geoff John's and Robert Venditti. The JSA by Geoff John's. The New Gods by Jack Kirby. Orion by Walter Simonson Superman Secret Orgins by Geoff John's. The Flash by Joshua Williamson. Deathstroke by Marv Wolfman. Supersons by Peter J Tomasi
The one that got me into comics in a big way was Sandman. It's self-contained enough that it's not at all daunting to get into but it's got enough connections that it might make someone curious about the larger world of DC and you could easily go from it to Books of Magic which is an excellent overview of the mystical side of the DCU. I'll also second what I see a lot of below and say JSA by Geoff John's is a great great book and pretty new-reader friendly BUT, it's even better if you've just come from Starman by James Robinson. Excellent book and pretty self-contained while also introducing a lot of the world. Either of these paths would be complimented by having read Alan Moore's Swamp Thing run as well. With all that said, neither of these are good recommendations to younger readers.
Great vid! Couple others new readers wont have to worry about knowing anything before diving in. - Superman red son - All star superman - Batman Gotham by gaslight
All good recommendations. I would add these ones as well: Batman: Hush Superman by Geoff Johns Superman: American Alien Green Arrow: Year One Saga of the Swamp Thing by Alan Moore
Hey Mike! "TDKR" was the 1st graphic novel I ever read. Luv both "THE LONG HALLOWEEN" & "DARK VICTORY." Did u like Loeb/Sale's "HAUNTED KNIGHT"? I luv that as well! U know I luv Snyder/Capullo's New 52 run! I think it's pretty new-reader friendly. And the "BATMAN: EARTH ONE" OGNs are great, too! Great Supes choices! Luv them all! I'd add "Birthright," "Secret Origin," & the "Earth One" OGNs. For me, the New 52 "JUSTICE LEAGUE: ORIGIN" is the place to start for Justice League! If you're talking only the Big 3, I'd say Matt Wagner's awesome "TRINITY"! I'm right in synch w/ya on ur Geoff Johns Green Lantern recommendation! One other- for Green Arrow- would be "Year One." But people can take my recommendations w/a grain of salt, lol, as superhero comics are not my "main genre," so-to-speak. Another fun video, my man! Hope u guys & ur families are all healthy & safe!😊👍🏻👍🏻❤
Is that a good place to start if you aren't familiar with the JSA? I'm really into The Spectre and was thinking about picking up a JSA book because I found out he was in it, but idk where to start lol.
JSA by Geoff Johns is incredible and will make you care for characters you never thought you could. I feel like Johns on JSA set the standard for Johns continuously writing character driven stories that encompass a large cast ensemble.
I would recommend Wonder Woman Dead Earth for the older reader simply because if you saw the first Wonder Woman movie you have enough knowledge about the character to read this series and not be confused about anything. And that Daniel Warren Johnson art 👌🏻
Animal Man ❤️ Long Halloween is the perfect choice for new readers I believe. I started with Morrisons Batman bc of a recommendation and was hooked because I was like "damn, comics are insane" 😆 Geoff Johns writes pretty much every character in the DC universe and they're all great stories, so I always recommended him.
Personally I'd recommend: Swamp Thing by Alan Moore Crisis on Infinite Earths JLI by Giffen & Dematteis The Flash by Mark Waid Batman by Snyder & Capullo Animal Man by Morrison is easily your best recommendation! Awesome content dude!
One recommendation I give to new readers is Johns Teen Titans. I wasn’t that into the Titans outside the original animated series but wow Johns sold me on them. You really get a sense of the legacy of the Titans while giving us some insight on the new teen Titans. In short I highly recommend it.
I just got the B/W collected hardcover edition of the Long Halloween at my local Ollie's Bargain Outlet for less than $10. Frankly, I think this reads better in b/w than in color.
@@TheHardcoverComic Another benefit with this hardcover edition is they used matte paper instead of the slick stuff which I think helps sharpen the contrast of the b/w art.
Awesome suggestions ! Out of the Geoff Johns Green Lantern omnibus, which volume was your favorite? If you could rank them, that would be great; most to least favorite. Thanks in advance.
Haha that is the order I did them as well... then I morrisons run (1st) Omnibus. Imgoing back to year one and some older stuff then ill get back to morrisons.
yeah but this is a DC vid. But yeah that's a good place to start. I'd actually go with Marvel before DC. The movies being the primary reason. Something like the Ultimates. East of West and Planetary are self contained and excellent too.
Hey man I am really interested in long halloween, would you recommend the Omnibus that collects Long Halloween, dark victory and some other stuff, or should I go for the individual deluxe editions? What one will last me the longest?

Good Picks... I got into DC last year. Just got the JSA omnibus'

@@heleng4528 I just got them this week. I have no idea yet... but ive heard they are great. Spectre does seem interesting what have you read with him?

@@Stephen_D421 he was in kingdom come briefly which got me interested so I started reading the wrath of spectre and a few single issues from the 90s.
Some of my picks would be All Star Superman, Geoff John's JSA run and The Spectre run by Ostrander and Mandrake
Great content as always. I really enjoy your recommendation and top 5/10 videos. Such quality content. Keep them coming man!
Thank you!

Animal Man ❤️

Amazing you were able to get through Morrison’s Batman and not feel discouraged!
Personally I'd recommend:
Swamp Thing by Alan Moore
Crisis on Infinite Earths
JLI by Giffen & Dematteis
The Flash by Mark Waid
Batman by Snyder & Capullo

Really glad I found your channel!
Great recommendations. For batman I'd recommend the court of owls.

Aquaman geoff johns omnibus was solid.
Thank you for recommending The Batman Adventures, nobody ever talks about them! I just ordered the first 40 issues 👍
The first batman book i read was Hush, but I've been itching to read the long halloween and dark victory
Haha that is the order I did them as well... then I morrisons run (1st) Omnibus. Imgoing back to year one and some older stuff then ill get back to morrisons.
X-force omnibus by rick remendrr, amazing run

Go with the omnibus for sure!

The ones that have never failed have been Wanted, Tokyo Ghost and Preacher.
6:27 was that a fart???
LOL i wish, and I’d admit if it was, but it was just me moving the little table I keep my microphone on while recording
No mention of Birthright or All Star Superman? For-shame.
I can't recommend Batman Earth One enough
