I am just a farmer and never been able to get serious about Bible reading (study). A friend of mine sent me the Holman CBS translation of the Bible. When I pick it up to read a couple of verses I find myself still reading an hour later. I LOVE IT ! ! ! :) :) :)
You are not "just a farmer". You are a farmer. Farmers, custodians and other blue collar workers deserve as much respect as CEO's of billion dollar corporations. In fact, I think they deserve more respect, because they're the ones who keep this country going.

I even have degrees in Agricultural Science and Theology and my son is a cowhand - head of milking and calving in different farms in England, window cleaner, now a beekeeper, dyslexic but he also does serious Bible study when he can despite 4 small children). We want people to read the book with confidence
My husband and I started reading esv in high school in our youth group , I’ve always had a hard time retaining information and once I switched over to csb i felt Gods word came alive !
My first bible was KJV and was what I read up until about age 30. I then used the NIV. Today I purchased a CSB today and am excited to dive into God's word in this translation.

I went through seminary in the 90's reading the NIV primarily. I would use other translations in my bible studies. I recently bought the ESV study bible and the CSB Ancient Faith Study Bible and I have to agree with this video, that I found the CSB very engaging, and actually went out and bought a CSB personal sized bible as my everyday reader. I can't put my finger on it, but i've fallen in love with the CSB and look forward to marking it up with notes, and highlights. Edit: one technique I've used over the years is making apparent discrepancies a teaching moment for the congregation by diving into it with various translations and explaining the passage to better engage the congregation.
I just made the switch to csb as my main preaching bible. I read through the csb in 90 days and was impressed at how smooth it was, plus im a sucker for textual notes.
Thank you for this video. I love that you do not bash other translations. I am not English, so I grew up with just one translation in my own language. It is still strange to me when I hear people claiming that only one specific translation should be used. I started with the Good News Bible and then I got the NLT after which I got the NIV, the ESV and now I am reading the NKJV. I buy Bibles based on the text size since my eye are not good, but I read different translations. At the moment I am reading the book of Job and I struggle with the NKJV translation. So Job I read in the NLT. Most important is that we read as much as we can. The Holy Spirit will reveal the truth and the message to us. Reading the Bible is also as case of obedience for the Word tell us we need to read it. We do not read to see what we can get from it, but rather to get to know God better. It is a form of worship.
Great video! I just discovered your channel. I grew up on the KJV and they had to pry that out of my hands. I love the CSB, but I also loved the HCSB. Our church (Reformed) uses the ESV. I love that one. I'm a big NIV fan. Love the NASB. For my devotional/general reading, I love the NLT. I used to be quite a translation snob, but the older I get, the less dogmatic (on this issue) I find myself to be. Anyway take care.
You love the CSB, HCSB, ESV, NASB, NIV, and NLT. I guess you aren’t terribly dogmatic about which version lol. As long as you read ‘em they’re all probably just fine. Keep it up!
Since you mentioned you are "reformed," I wonder if you can answer as to whether the CSB has any Calvinistic influence in translation. The Southern Baptist Convention is using the CSB, and though we are traditionally very Biblical, believing that anyone can be saved through Jesus, I know Calvinism has been creeping into the seminaries and even many Baptist preachers have become Calvinists.
@@whoavadis1984 After 47 years of studying the Bible, KJV, NIV 1984 and now the CSB, I can answer your question , "No, unlike the ESV, the CSB is free of Calvinism in translation and might have one note from a calvinist author." NOW that doesn't fully address John 6 or Romans 9 or whatever verse is taught via eisegesis, but people are going to do that anyways. I'm using the Apologetics version so the author notes don't clutter it up. I'm unsure about the study Bible version.

Never allow criticism to determine the best translation to use. Go to God. Pray on it. EVERY SINGLE TRANSLATION has it good and bad. There's no perfect translation. Just remember pride, envy, and idolatry can apply to Bibles and their translations. So my advise next time something you enjoy is criticized, ask yourself...is it legit or is it someone's pride, envy, idolatry speaking. Always seek God's advise. Trust me, he will let you know one way or the other! Quick story how God showed me. I was trying to find the translation that fit me. It started with the HCSB. Then wanted one on culture, early church fathers, apologetics, devotional and a study Bible. Just to get the broadest spectrum of the Bible, the culture, religion, and defense of it. What I wasn't picking up on at the time, they were all CSB translations. Once I realized that, that told me, it's the translation God was alerting me too. His way of helping and answering my prayers on the struggles with finding the right translation for me. Bless you!!! 🙏🙏
There's no version of the Bible without criticism. Some much more deserving than others. People seem to like to criticize even the smallest things as if it meant a lot. The Bible says it best, "strain at a gnat and swallow a camel". The CSB is the most middle of the road balanced version you're going to find. Every other version is either to the left or right of it. I picked it up about 3 weeks ago, and I'm customizing the heck out of it. But as far as readability goes, I just went through the entire book of Deuteronomy and now into Judges and I can tell you that it's very interesting to read from. It's hard to put down. I'd put down the ESV and pick up the CSB.

As a 19 year old I graduated from Bible college in the mid 80s, I am now 54 ( OLD) I have always Gone first to the original languages ( I read Greek and Arabic) and that has been my FIRST Step in my readind. My Primary translation in the INCOMPARABLE NASB 1977 for very deep study ie Exegesis. For comparison I use the NET full notes edition, and for general everyday reading the CSB which I LOVE!!!!! It is not perfect in translation, I always fix the texts in the margins where the translation is weak or incorrect. God bless you, great video.
@@randome8314 What do you mean by PERFECT dear sir? When you translate anything ( even the Bible ) from one language to another you: 1. Lose accuracy 2. Lose Nuance 3. Shade of meaning 4. Some Hebrew/Greek words are untranslatable into English. That's why I go first to the original language. A very accurate Bible would be: 1- The Legacy Bible which is an edition of the New American Standard Bible (NASB). 2- Nasb 3. CSB ( Christian Standard Bible) easy to read but less accurate than the LSB, but still very good.

I got an CSB Bible for myself this year, after seeing how much my eight year old daughter is enjoying her CSB explorer Bible for kids. I am even more excited to read it after watching your video. I’ve previously read NKJV and ESV.
I have the CSB Tony Evans Study Bible & the CSB Life Essentials Study Bible. Both are excellent, & I use them regularly. I grew up with the KJV & still memorize from it. have other translations as well-the ESV, NKJV, NASB-77, NASB-95, & NIV (1984). I’m not dogmatic about which one I use, either, except that I personally dislike paraphrases. As you can see from my list, I prefer word-for-word & thought-for-thought translations.
Thanks for a good video! I think I'm similar to you in that I love the ESV, but I find it has too much Biblish, which for better or worse many people today can't always follow well enough. Such as people whose native tongue isn't English (which includes a lot of my own family and friends as I'm Asian-American) and the unchurched who seem to be increasing in number in our secular nation (especially in a place like California where I am). Hence the CSB is something very helpful for me to reach out to these two huge groups - non-native English speakers and the unchurched. Other translations like the NIV and NLT might work too. However, I prefer the CSB to both. Nothing at all against NIV or NLT, there are excellent evangelical and Reformed biblical scholars and translators like Don Carson, Doug Moo, and Mark Strauss behind the NIV and NLT, just as there are excellent ones behind the CSB (e.g. Tom Schreiner, Iain Duguid), but I personally find that the CSB does everything the NIV and NLT well (e.g. readability, naturalness, clarity) plus the CSB does a bit more (e.g. it's a little tighter in translating the Hebrew and Greek than the NIV and especially NLT seem to be, at least in my view). At the end of the day, I deeply appreciate that you chose the CSB not so much for yourself as to reach out to European immigrants who don't speak English as their first or native tongue, which doubtless reflects the fact that you're a loving and compassionate shepherd! May the Lord raise up more like you, for his glory and his people's good!
Hey Dean! Love the CSB. You provided a good and thoughtful reason for using it. I've been recommending it for the same reason as well as for those who are newer Christians or haven't read through the Bible regularly. I've been going back and forth on if I want to switch our church or not. I still use the ESV for preaching/teaching/study but use the CSB for my devotions.

I'm a Spanish language speaker native, and I found the CSB the best Bible to study and improve my English while I grow up in my spiritual life. #CSB-only new guy here 😎
I still love and use the ESV in many situation with my church and at home, but I’m finding the CSB to be an amazing read when it comes to clarity without sacrificing accuracy. The ESV and CSB in many ways sound very similar while the CSB will make minor alterations to the English that just roll off of the tongue. Conjunctions are nice and the use of modern words in many situations just work very well. An ESV like bible for the modern day in my opinion.
I love reading the king James But I also love to read The Living Bible paraphrase No one never speaks about The Living Bible paraphrase Is easy to read and easy to understand It's speech to me right to the heart God gives me a better understanding in his word

I love the ESV Study Bible and NASB for deep study, but sit and love on and read the CSV. It is a reading friendly Bible and I just sit and read it. As always, the Holy Spirit is there to help interpret.❤❤❤❤❤
I have recently started reading the CSB. It’s the nicest reading translation I’ve read. I started with KJV then switched to NKJV for years. Last year I started reading the ESV and I like it. But the CSB just reads so smoothly.
Great video. I just made the switch to the CSB also a few months ago for my preaching/teaching and memorization work. I loved the NIV84 and was bummed to see the changes to the NIV2011. The CSB reads and feels much like the 84NIV and thus, it was a great option for change. I did use the NASB for 20+ years and when the ESV came out in 2001, I just couldn't make the switch to another formally equivalent translation as I preferred a careful mix between readability and accuracy. The CSB really does a good job of capturing that balance IMO.
I really liked the original CSB I know people didn't like the layout but I thought it had really unique character. Now it imo its another modern translation thats just slightly different. I think everyone should choose what speaks to them. Fortunately the English world has a wealth of choices that are mostly all worthy translations of God's word.
I was a user of the NASB. Then switched to HCSB. Now I use the CSB 2017 study Bible as my main. Just picked up the 2020 CSB Study Bible. CSB is definitely imo, the best translation for me. Hands down. I LOVE that it optimal translation, meaning it's both word for word and thought for thought. Perfect mix for both.
I've got an HCSB printed in 2005 that I have owned a little over a year now. Read it very little until lately. I'm liking it more and more. I've also just ordered, (not received yet), an ISV in NT only. This HCSB is gonna be my carry bible I'm thinking.

Very well presented and informative. For a lot of years I was KJV only. I still like the KJV and quote from it on occasion but I don't ever study with it. With regard to the ESV vs CSB vs NASB I use them all. Since I study my bible using my laptop or iPad (rather than a hardcopy book bound form) it is fast and easy to switch between translations. I view Bible translations much the same way a mechanic would view tools in his toolbox. No one tool is good for all functions. I find that in one passage the ESV might seem to have translated it better, but another passage might seem more accurate in the CSB or one of the other translations. While I probably have 16-18 English translations loaded I spend 95% of my time in the following translations: ESV, NASB, CSB, and NET. These four are my favorites.
Considering trying out the CSB . I’ve heard a lot of good things. Currently I mostly use an NLT with an ESV study Bible when I want to look into things further
I’m an NIV gal, I enjoy reading from all translations and comparing the translations side by side ALOT but I always find myself going back to my comfort of the NIV. Maybe it’s because this is the translation i started scripture memorization and when I read something different I don’t believe it to be right or true. Lol 😂 But CSB is growing on me. It’s been on my heart even though I disliked it the most for some time. Weird how God works. Also, born and raised in Canada .. unfortunately Canada is super liberal. Sometimes I wish I lived in the states just to meet more Christian’s who shared real and deep faith the way I do. I also found the CSB to be super choppy. Like when I expected it to say something “I already remembered” or expected it to say in such a way and it didn’t it just screwed me up reading. I kept re reading sentences and felt they were soooo different and off. Anyways :) thanks for your review on the CSB !
I have purchased 4 CSB study bibles this year and was really irritated to later find them all to be the old 2017 version despite getting them from different sources.. I didn’t know about the 2020 update at the time but after finding out and learning that my 2023 purchases were all still not the current update was a negative introduction to the translation that put my desire to dig into it on the back burner.
I used the NIV for years, and the ESV alongside it for a more literal reading, but after trying the CSB for a few weeks I decided to switch to the CSB. I love its optimal equivalence translation philosophy, so its both more literal than the NIV and more readable than the ESV. It'll be even better for me whenever their Anglicised version comes out electronically on Bible apps as I'm in the UK.
Thanks for the thoughtful explanation. I will always have an ESV Study Bible nearby, but I am enjoying the experience of reading the CSB. They do several things very well, and the translation is accurate and friendly to read.
CSB makes me read The Bible more often than before. It also gives me more interest to other translations. Since I got my first CSB which is the Large Print Thinline Bible, I bought 5 more Bibles. It makes me want to be a collector now. 😅
After studying I also came to the same conclusion CSB is my personal favorite, it has became my personal daily reading bible, for family bible studies and the bible that I have been preaching out of.
I use a NASB Hebrew -Greek Keyword for serious study along with a ESV. THE CSB is a great read and maintains the accuracy. I had a personal size one for church but just ordered theCSB Everyday Study Bible.
Love that this popped up. I’m a bit of a collector. I love to read the same passage in several versions just to get a feel of the way different groups interpret them. My favorite translation is the HCSB. I grew tired of being the only person I know that uses it so I just picked up an inexpensive fake leather CSB. I’ve really only read Ephesians because that’s what I’m currently studying, but it is…. Fine. When I have it open along with my ESV and NKJV it serves the same purpose. I really can’t justify the change though. It is difficult to notice the difference.
I could see that. For me, I’m in it all the time and all over the place showing it to folks who don’t necessarily come from churched backgrounds so it’s the best FOR ME. 😎👍
@@Underdogtheology here we are a year later- video popped up in my feed again. Over this year I have moved and changed churches. The new pastor preached from the CSB and now I’m all in. I still don’t notice much of a difference between the HCSB and the CSB but the cover is falling off of the CSB so just ordered a new, much nicer, CSB.
I’ve recently switched to CSB & NIV. I still enjoy all my other versions too, but main study is CSB & kicking back listening on audible is NIV until CSB comes out with a better sounding narrator.
I’m a child of the 80s and grew up with the NIV84. Wasn’t a big fan of the NIV2011. Picked up a CSB and I really do like it *with exception to* some of the Psalms. I found a second hand NIV84 which I still use as my daily reader just from personal history and preference, but the CSB is my second choice. I keep my NKJV around for when I need more literal study. The CSB being intentionally around a 7th grade reading comprehension level makes it a good all around translation to use in a congregation where you don’t really know the background of everyone.
I find myself bouncing back and forth with ESV and NLT. Im admittedly not the most fluent or fast reader so I find myself reading verses 3-4 times to make sure I read it right sometimes. I like how the ESV sounds/feels more like a KJV but easier to understand. With that being said if I need help on a ESV verse I open up the NLT. Sometimes read half a page before and after the verse to get the idea/subject/meaning. I have a copy of the CSB version - after watching this video I may have to sit down and give it a chance.
@@Underdogtheology your welcome. I have one and it is my daily driver and preaching BIble. You can write in the margins, its 36gsm paper with barely any ghosting, line matched, and best of all verse by verse with the verse numbers in red. Has the full translator notes, cross references and a full concordance. Also it takes underlining with pigma microns very well.
I picked up the LSB and I love it. I am hesitant to make it the family bible though. Feels better for deep personal study. I think the CSB is really strong, great for preaching, and better for group study, pew bibles etc. Good mix of formal and dynamic equivalence.
The only issue I’ve had with the LSB is that it is only produced by one small company who have not been able to keep up with demand or get many styles of it out yet. I have a first edition but am still waiting for an edition with footnotes. So if I was a Pastor I would wait until it is more available, but as an individual I am enjoying it.
Great video. My church uses the ESV. Although a very accurate translation, I personally find the ESV a little difficult to read. It is kind of choppy. I realize that this is a personal issue for me as most people have no difficulty reading the ESV. I use the NKJV and the CSB mostly now. They are trustworthy, and are just more readable for me.

I like the csb too. God has really used it in my life to see him and the bible from a new pov. But doesnt it bother you that the csb uses thought for thought renders in certain places? Because doesnt that make it in danger of having human interpation in it?
Austin, thanks for watching! You are right that this does have a danger of having human interpretation, but in my study and comparison between the original languages and the CSB I have not found any glaring issues of this. I’ll let you know if I do find any. Cheers!
@@Underdogtheology What about in the book of genesis chapter 27 when Isaac is blessing Jacob. He said" may they bow in worship too you" where most literal translations don't have the word worship in there bibles or the 2020 rendering of romans 3 25?
For who heard and rebelled? Wasn’t it all who came out of Egypt under Moses? Heb.3.16 CSB Perhaps you can tell us what happened to Joshua and Caleb. Did not they follow Moses out of Egypt and then enter the promised land?
Love the KJV for ripping scripture apart the NLT because it's much easier to read awesome that you're not just a KJV person that you looked into other translations to see what's good for making people understand the word of God thumbs up
Good point, the HCSB is much better in that respect. I find in too many ways the csb is a slight downgrade from its predecessor. It's kind of a shame, because many of the errors are unforced. Even lack of capitalization of God's personal pronouns when it's plainly obvious (i.e. Mathew 8:1) Having said that, the version isn't necessarily bad, just not better, which makes you wonder why change so many things that don't make for a better, more consistent translation? A newer revision to the HCSB would have been a better choice IMHO🤔
I just ordered a pocket csb. I have a kjv and nlt but i HATE the "heith goeth thatith cometh thiusist goest thine thoust thou goest thou thine thee" like WHAT.
I really like the HCSB’s readability. So I’m intrigued about checking out the CSB. I read the ESV daily, but I’m not particularly taken with it. I also have the NET (full notes), NASB, KJV, NIV, NAB and NWT. I think the NWT is the best (readability + accuracy), followed distantly by the NAB (better accuracy than many other translations), all the rest are ok.
The NWT is a translation done by the Jehovah’s Witnesses and it’s full of mistranslations to make it say what they want it to say. Not a faithful translation at all, avoid at all costs.
I've studied and memorized from the ESV pretty exclusively for 10 years. It's the only translation I've really used as a primary Bible. I really like the CSB, though, and have considered switching. The problem is I am soooo used to how the ESV sounds. Anywhere I read in the NT, especially in the epistles, I just can't read the CSB without thinking of how it sounds wrong to my ears. Reading out loud is even worse because I automatically speak the ESV. Maybe I'm stuck (not that it's a bad thing) with the ESV.
Bless God if the KJV was good enough for Jesus it is good enough for me! Just kidding. Good video! I started preaching out of the CSB late last year going through the Gospel of Mark, and when I run into small translational things, or I like the way the NASB, ESV, or even now the LSB says something better, I run with those. Usually just making a small remark as to why we're not in the CSB because that's what I have all my leaders teach out of, too. They've really enjoyed being able to read and get a better grasp of the Scriptures, too.
After trying out most of the popular choices, I think I've settled on the CSB for my daily reading. Will still fall back to ESV/NASB/NKJV for extra study and comparisons, but I find the CSB will replace the NIV for my reading.

I am also a farmer and really like the CSB from Holman. Their Bibles are not expensive and they have them in large print which make it easy to read.

I love that one. I'm a big NIV fan. Love the NASB. For my devotional/general reading, I love the NLT. I used to be quite a translation snob, but the older I get, the less dogmatic (on this issue) I find myself to be. Anyway take care.

Since you mentioned you are "reformed," I wonder if you can answer as to whether the CSB has any Calvinistic influence in translation. The Southern Baptist Convention is using the CSB, and though we are traditionally very Biblical, believing that anyone can be saved through Jesus, I know Calvinism has been creeping into the seminaries and even many Baptist preachers have become Calvinists.
@@whoavadis1984 After 47 years of studying the Bible, KJV, NIV 1984 and now the CSB, I can answer your question , "No, unlike the ESV, the CSB is free of Calvinism in translation and might have one note from a calvinist author."
NOW that doesn't fully address John 6 or Romans 9 or whatever verse is taught via eisegesis, but people are going to do that anyways.
I'm using the Apologetics version so the author notes don't clutter it up.
I'm unsure about the study Bible version.
Love the CSB. I have been reading it daily along side my NASB and find it to be a great read and very reliable.

Never allow criticism to determine the best translation to use. Go to God. Pray on it.
EVERY SINGLE TRANSLATION has it good and bad. There's no perfect translation. Just remember pride, envy, and idolatry can apply to Bibles and their translations. So my advise next time something you enjoy is criticized, ask yourself...is it legit or is it someone's pride, envy, idolatry speaking.
Always seek God's advise. Trust me, he will let you know one way or the other!
Quick story how God showed me.
I was trying to find the translation that fit me. It started with the HCSB. Then wanted one on culture, early church fathers, apologetics, devotional and a study Bible. Just to get the broadest spectrum of the Bible, the culture, religion, and defense of it. What I wasn't picking up on at the time, they were all CSB translations. Once I realized that, that told me, it's the translation God was alerting me too. His way of helping and answering my prayers on the struggles with finding the right translation for me.

There's no version of the Bible without criticism. Some much more deserving than others. People seem to like to criticize even the smallest things as if it meant a lot. The Bible says it best, "strain at a gnat and swallow a camel".
The CSB is the most middle of the road balanced version you're going to find. Every other version is either to the left or right of it.
I picked it up about 3 weeks ago, and I'm customizing the heck out of it.
But as far as readability goes, I just went through the entire book of Deuteronomy and now into Judges and I can tell you that it's very interesting to read from. It's hard to put down.
I'd put down the ESV and pick up the CSB.

As a 19 year old I graduated from Bible college in the mid 80s, I am now 54 ( OLD) I have always Gone first to the original languages ( I read Greek and Arabic) and that has been my FIRST Step in my readind. My Primary translation in the INCOMPARABLE NASB 1977 for very deep study ie Exegesis. For comparison I use the NET full notes edition, and for general everyday reading the CSB which I LOVE!!!!! It is not perfect in translation, I always fix the texts in the margins where the translation is weak or incorrect. God bless you, great video.

@@randome8314 What do you mean by PERFECT dear sir? When you translate anything ( even the Bible ) from one language to another you:
1. Lose accuracy
2. Lose Nuance
3. Shade of meaning
4. Some Hebrew/Greek words are untranslatable into English.
That's why I go first to the original language.
A very accurate Bible would be:
1- The Legacy Bible which is an edition of the New American Standard Bible (NASB).
2- Nasb
3. CSB ( Christian Standard Bible) easy to read but less accurate than the LSB, but still very good.

I got an CSB Bible for myself this year, after seeing how much my eight year old daughter is enjoying her CSB explorer Bible for kids. I am even more excited to read it after watching your video. I’ve previously read NKJV and ESV.
I have the CSB Tony Evans Study Bible & the CSB Life Essentials Study Bible. Both are excellent, & I use them regularly. I grew up with the KJV & still memorize from it. have other translations as well-the ESV, NKJV, NASB-77, NASB-95, & NIV (1984). I’m not dogmatic about which one I use, either, except that I personally dislike paraphrases. As you can see from my list, I prefer word-for-word & thought-for-thought translations.

Thanks for a good video! I think I'm similar to you in that I love the ESV, but I find it has too much Biblish, which for better or worse many people today can't always follow well enough. Such as people whose native tongue isn't English (which includes a lot of my own family and friends as I'm Asian-American) and the unchurched who seem to be increasing in number in our secular nation (especially in a place like California where I am). Hence the CSB is something very helpful for me to reach out to these two huge groups - non-native English speakers and the unchurched. Other translations like the NIV and NLT might work too. However, I prefer the CSB to both. Nothing at all against NIV or NLT, there are excellent evangelical and Reformed biblical scholars and translators like Don Carson, Doug Moo, and Mark Strauss behind the NIV and NLT, just as there are excellent ones behind the CSB (e.g. Tom Schreiner, Iain Duguid), but I personally find that the CSB does everything the NIV and NLT well (e.g. readability, naturalness, clarity) plus the CSB does a bit more (e.g. it's a little tighter in translating the Hebrew and Greek than the NIV and especially NLT seem to be, at least in my view). At the end of the day, I deeply appreciate that you chose the CSB not so much for yourself as to reach out to European immigrants who don't speak English as their first or native tongue, which doubtless reflects the fact that you're a loving and compassionate shepherd! May the Lord raise up more like you, for his glory and his people's good!
Hey Dean! Love the CSB. You provided a good and thoughtful reason for using it. I've been recommending it for the same reason as well as for those who are newer Christians or haven't read through the Bible regularly. I've been going back and forth on if I want to switch our church or not. I still use the ESV for preaching/teaching/study but use the CSB for my devotions.

I bought a CSB for my 12yo and liked so much, i got another one as my daily read.
I'm a Spanish language speaker native, and I found the CSB the best Bible to study and improve my English while I grow up in my spiritual life. #CSB-only new guy here 😎

I still love and use the ESV in many situation with my church and at home, but I’m finding the CSB to be an amazing read when it comes to clarity without sacrificing accuracy. The ESV and CSB in many ways sound very similar while the CSB will make minor alterations to the English that just roll off of the tongue. Conjunctions are nice and the use of modern words in many situations just work very well. An ESV like bible for the modern day in my opinion.

I love the ESV Study Bible and NASB for deep study, but sit and love on and read the CSV. It is a reading friendly Bible and I just sit and read it. As always, the Holy Spirit is there to help interpret.❤❤❤❤❤

I have recently started reading the CSB. It’s the nicest reading translation I’ve read. I started with KJV then switched to NKJV for years. Last year I started reading the ESV and I like it. But the CSB just reads so smoothly.
I am a pastor of a small church and I use CSB behind the pulpit. I think its the best for public use hits all audiences.
Great video. I just made the switch to the CSB also a few months ago for my preaching/teaching and memorization work. I loved the NIV84 and was bummed to see the changes to the NIV2011. The CSB reads and feels much like the 84NIV and thus, it was a great option for change. I did use the NASB for 20+ years and when the ESV came out in 2001, I just couldn't make the switch to another formally equivalent translation as I preferred a careful mix between readability and accuracy. The CSB really does a good job of capturing that balance IMO.

I really liked the original CSB I know people didn't like the layout but I thought it had really unique character.
Now it imo its another modern translation thats just slightly different.
I think everyone should choose what speaks to them. Fortunately the English world has a wealth of choices that are mostly all worthy translations of God's word.

I was a user of the NASB. Then switched to HCSB.
Now I use the CSB 2017 study Bible as my main. Just picked up the 2020 CSB Study Bible.
CSB is definitely imo, the best translation for me. Hands down. I LOVE that it optimal translation, meaning it's both word for word and thought for thought. Perfect mix for both.
Im a NKJV guy and my wife prefers the NLT, we’ve both chosen the CSB for couple/family studies. Much easier to read to understand.

I've got an HCSB printed in 2005 that I have owned a little over a year now. Read it very little until lately. I'm liking it more and more. I've also just ordered, (not received yet), an ISV in NT only. This HCSB is gonna be my carry bible I'm thinking.

Very well presented and informative. For a lot of years I was KJV only. I still like the KJV and quote from it on occasion but I don't ever study with it. With regard to the ESV vs CSB vs NASB I use them all. Since I study my bible using my laptop or iPad (rather than a hardcopy book bound form) it is fast and easy to switch between translations. I view Bible translations much the same way a mechanic would view tools in his toolbox. No one tool is good for all functions. I find that in one passage the ESV might seem to have translated it better, but another passage might seem more accurate in the CSB or one of the other translations. While I probably have 16-18 English translations loaded I spend 95% of my time in the following translations: ESV, NASB, CSB, and NET. These four are my favorites.

I’m an NIV gal, I enjoy reading from all translations and comparing the translations side by side ALOT but I always find myself going back to my comfort of the NIV. Maybe it’s because this is the translation i started scripture memorization and when I read something different I don’t believe it to be right or true. Lol 😂
But CSB is growing on me. It’s been on my heart even though I disliked it the most for some time. Weird how God works.
Also, born and raised in Canada .. unfortunately Canada is super liberal. Sometimes I wish I lived in the states just to meet more Christian’s who shared real and deep faith the way I do.
I also found the CSB to be super choppy. Like when I expected it to say something “I already remembered” or expected it to say in such a way and it didn’t it just screwed me up reading. I kept re reading sentences and felt they were soooo different and off.

😅 for the longest time, I thought I was the only one who absolutely loved the CSB
I have purchased 4 CSB study bibles this year and was really irritated to later find them all to be the old 2017 version despite getting them from different sources.. I didn’t know about the 2020 update at the time but after finding out and learning that my 2023 purchases were all still not the current update was a negative introduction to the translation that put my desire to dig into it on the back burner.

I used the NIV for years, and the ESV alongside it for a more literal reading, but after trying the CSB for a few weeks I decided to switch to the CSB. I love its optimal equivalence translation philosophy, so its both more literal than the NIV and more readable than the ESV. It'll be even better for me whenever their Anglicised version comes out electronically on Bible apps as I'm in the UK.
Thanks for the thoughtful explanation. I will always have an ESV Study Bible nearby, but I am enjoying the experience of reading the CSB. They do several things very well, and the translation is accurate and friendly to read.

CSB makes me read The Bible more often than before. It also gives me more interest to other translations. Since I got my first CSB which is the Large Print Thinline Bible, I bought 5 more Bibles. It makes me want to be a collector now. 😅
After studying I also came to the same conclusion CSB is my personal favorite, it has became my personal daily reading bible, for family bible studies and the bible that I have been preaching out of.

I use a NASB Hebrew -Greek Keyword for serious study along with a ESV. THE CSB is a great read and maintains the accuracy. I had a personal size one for church but just ordered theCSB Everyday Study Bible.

Love that this popped up. I’m a bit of a collector. I love to read the same passage in several versions just to get a feel of the way different groups interpret them. My favorite translation is the HCSB. I grew tired of being the only person I know that uses it so I just picked up an inexpensive fake leather CSB. I’ve really only read Ephesians because that’s what I’m currently studying, but it is…. Fine. When I have it open along with my ESV and NKJV it serves the same purpose. I really can’t justify the change though. It is difficult to notice the difference.
I could see that. For me, I’m in it all the time and all over the place showing it to folks who don’t necessarily come from churched backgrounds so it’s the best FOR ME. 😎👍
@@Underdogtheology here we are a year later- video popped up in my feed again. Over this year I have moved and changed churches. The new pastor preached from the CSB and now I’m all in. I still don’t notice much of a difference between the HCSB and the CSB but the cover is falling off of the CSB so just ordered a new, much nicer, CSB.

I’ve recently switched to CSB & NIV. I still enjoy all my other versions too, but main study is CSB & kicking back listening on audible is NIV until CSB comes out with a better sounding narrator.
I’m a child of the 80s and grew up with the NIV84. Wasn’t a big fan of the NIV2011. Picked up a CSB and I really do like it *with exception to* some of the Psalms. I found a second hand NIV84 which I still use as my daily reader just from personal history and preference, but the CSB is my second choice. I keep my NKJV around for when I need more literal study.
The CSB being intentionally around a 7th grade reading comprehension level makes it a good all around translation to use in a congregation where you don’t really know the background of everyone.
I like the CSB also. It tells the stories plain and simple. Just like in Ezekiel 23::19-22
I find myself bouncing back and forth with ESV and NLT. Im admittedly not the most fluent or fast reader so I find myself reading verses 3-4 times to make sure I read it right sometimes. I like how the ESV sounds/feels more like a KJV but easier to understand. With that being said if I need help on a ESV verse I open up the NLT. Sometimes read half a page before and after the verse to get the idea/subject/meaning. I have a copy of the CSB version - after watching this video I may have to sit down and give it a chance.

You can write in the margins, its 36gsm paper with barely any ghosting, line matched, and best of all verse by verse with the verse numbers in red. Has the full translator notes, cross references and a full concordance. Also it takes underlining with pigma microns very well.
For me the CSB reads like the NIV, but I'm a NLT Life Application Study Bible guy.
I think it's a good idea to use at least two translations, so you can compare one against the other.
I enjoy preaching from the CSB. I too switched to CSB from the ESV
I picked up the LSB and I love it. I am hesitant to make it the family bible though. Feels better for deep personal study. I think the CSB is really strong, great for preaching, and better for group study, pew bibles etc. Good mix of formal and dynamic equivalence.
The only issue I’ve had with the LSB is that it is only produced by one small company who have not been able to keep up with demand or get many styles of it out yet. I have a first edition but am still waiting for an edition with footnotes. So if I was a Pastor I would wait until it is more available, but as an individual I am enjoying it.
Great video. My church uses the ESV. Although a very accurate translation, I personally find the ESV a little difficult to read. It is kind of choppy. I realize that this is a personal issue for me as most people have no difficulty reading the ESV. I use the NKJV and the CSB mostly now. They are trustworthy, and are just more readable for me.

I’m not really a study Bible guy, but from what I’ve seen the He/She Reads Truth Bibles are a good option in the CSB.

I like the csb too. God has really used it in my life to see him and the bible from a new pov. But doesnt it bother you that the csb uses thought for thought renders in certain places? Because doesnt that make it in danger of having human interpation in it?

The CSB is good yet why the inconsistencies. WHT Christ and then Messiah. It should read christ consistently.
Good point, the HCSB is much better in that respect. I find in too many ways the csb is a slight downgrade from its predecessor. It's kind of a shame, because many of the errors are unforced. Even lack of capitalization of God's personal pronouns when it's plainly obvious (i.e. Mathew 8:1) Having said that, the version isn't necessarily bad, just not better, which makes you wonder why change so many things that don't make for a better, more consistent translation? A newer revision to the HCSB would have been a better choice IMHO🤔
I just ordered a pocket csb. I have a kjv and nlt but i HATE the "heith goeth thatith cometh thiusist goest thine thoust thou goest thou thine thee" like WHAT.
I really like the HCSB’s readability. So I’m intrigued about checking out the CSB. I read the ESV daily, but I’m not particularly taken with it. I also have the NET (full notes), NASB, KJV, NIV, NAB and NWT. I think the NWT is the best (readability + accuracy), followed distantly by the NAB (better accuracy than many other translations), all the rest are ok.
The NWT is a translation done by the Jehovah’s Witnesses and it’s full of mistranslations to make it say what they want it to say. Not a faithful translation at all, avoid at all costs.
@@RyGuy8989 I’ve studied the debated passages in the NWT and haven’t found them to be unfaithful to the Greek myself.
If you have the HCSB the csb is a slight downgrade. That said it's decent, but not at all an improvement overall.

I've studied and memorized from the ESV pretty exclusively for 10 years. It's the only translation I've really used as a primary Bible. I really like the CSB, though, and have considered switching. The problem is I am soooo used to how the ESV sounds. Anywhere I read in the NT, especially in the epistles, I just can't read the CSB without thinking of how it sounds wrong to my ears. Reading out loud is even worse because I automatically speak the ESV. Maybe I'm stuck (not that it's a bad thing) with the ESV.

Bless God if the KJV was good enough for Jesus it is good enough for me! Just kidding. Good video! I started preaching out of the CSB late last year going through the Gospel of Mark, and when I run into small translational things, or I like the way the NASB, ESV, or even now the LSB says something better, I run with those. Usually just making a small remark as to why we're not in the CSB because that's what I have all my leaders teach out of, too. They've really enjoyed being able to read and get a better grasp of the Scriptures, too.

After trying out most of the popular choices, I think I've settled on the CSB for my daily reading. Will still fall back to ESV/NASB/NKJV for extra study and comparisons, but I find the CSB will replace the NIV for my reading.
