As someone who draws as a hobby, pressure sensitivity is the one and only feature I expect all respetable styluses to have, and somehow Apple thought it was a good idea to remove it. The most basic tablet I bought some years ago for $50 (One by Wacom) had pressure sensitivity and it was a great tablet when I was just starting and it had pressure sensitivity!!
My first tablet was a non name brand (i wanna say it was turcom?) cost only like 20$ and still had pressure sensitivity 💀 apple is just a bunch of scammers
If you don't care about pressure sensitivity, just buy a third party pen for 20-40 depending on how fancy you want it. Paying 80 dollars for this is a mistake.
Fully agree and that's what my company will continue to do. I expect most other enterprises to buy third party ones (provided pressure sensitivity isn't a big deal), as well as the education market, which is likely more cash strapped. In the construction industry, pressure sensitivity is essentially unnecessary when dealing with diagrams.
Sorry, I don't like this either, but the thing is, that tilt sensitivity is determined by the layer under the screen, so it was basically free. Having pressure sensitivity requires a load cell below the tip, which may require calibration and QC.
But the problem is that it is not cheaper, they are cutting down on features without cutting down on cost, so at this point if one doesn't care about pressure, then that person should buy alternative pencils.
It’s supposed to be the equivalent of 2nd gen pencil but without pressure sens, so it is cheaper than that. But it’s so stupid, even 10$ third party stylus have tilt sens and no pressure so it’s kind of a useless release. The target audience of ppl who want the pencil for cheap but don’t care for pressure already bought 3rd party dupes for a reasonable price and anyone else with a brain will not be buying this new pencil
pressure sensitivity is what makes Apple pencils without competition. by removing this on the USBC pencil, its fair game for every 3rd party pencil and cheaper!

Because this is mainly a tech channel. Like yeah, Brad is an artist, but he is creating his illustrations mainly as a way to showcase the products he's reviewing and showing off all the possible strengths and weaknesses an artist might encounter when using these tools.
most tech channels are very friendly towards certain brands. its why almost no one points the major issues in IOS, but lots will point out what lacks in android(like airdrop or "ecosystem", even though theres multiple apps and programs for it, with more features and ease of use than apple)
I hate corporations. Edit: Dude, you went way too easy on Apple. This is genuinely an appalling, money-grubbing bs display from this evil megacorp and I am personally so done with this. I'm not even an apple user, but I'm sick and tired of the tech oligopoly that is constantly hammering the consumer, because there isn't adequate competition nor consumer protections.
Thats why they are 2.7 trillion dollar company...And each of their product have margin of atleast 70% profit to 119% on iphones ha ha...But one thing they ensure the user experience on each product is top notch...their pricing segment will also drive u up to get more premium product and they have more profit margin..its not about expense because it maybe cost 5 USD to add pressure sensitivity but they choose not to give it
I really think they should've just called this the "Apple Pencil SE," like how they use the "SE" branding for lower-end iPhones and Apple Watches. That, and/or retroactively rebrand the 2nd-gen Pencil as something like "Apple Pencil Pro". I also think the entry-level iPad should be rebranded as an "iPad SE," but that's another subject altogether.
@@stevethea5250because many writing styles use pressure sensitivity to add thinner and thicker lines, quickly and easily, without it writing can get annoying quickly! Same goes for drawing ..
Brad, I'd just like to say that when you first started your channel I wasn't sure about the content you were creating, but over these last few years you have truly become an important and positive force in the digital art community. As a professional artist with the necessary equipment already owned, I still find you really endearing, knowledgeable and unbiased. Not to mention very entertaining, keep up the good work!
Excluding the Pen pressure in the new pencil is odd, considering the Logitech Crayon served the intended purpose of being used in school for years already.
This is what I was thinking. Crayon is less finicky with pairing to the iPad (can be done wireless unlike this new Pencil), and is compatible with more iPads. The downside is possibly the lack of magnetic attachment and having hover cursor that the new Pencil has, but attachment _doesn't charge it_ and I'm wondering how often you need the hover cursor without needing pressure sensitivity. Happy to hear use cases of needing the hover cursor but no pressure sensitivity, because I'm sure there is.
@squashn.695 The crayon was my first stylus with my ipad and I can definitely vouch for it. I feel the hover cursor could be something that people would buy the new pencil for, but as someone with a standard ipad who draws with the 1st gen pencil, I feel hypothetically between the two, someone might aswell opt for the crayon. It has the same pencil tech, and if neither has pressure sensitivity, I don't think one feature should push one to the new pencil, but thats my perspective on it atleast.
@@genkia87 The Crayon was my first stylus. I can definitely recommend it, but if you take better care of it than my slippery fingers did. The second generation Crayon also brings USB-C (I don’t own it) and a refined design. Why Pencil USB lacks the one core thing that put Apple Pencils above the third parties is beyond me
@auliamate Yeah the first pencils charging method is abit of a meme 💀 I think Logitech was onto something by letting you charge with the lightning cord directly. Apple's insistence on doing weird stuff with their peripherals is indeed an oddity 😂
I think they should name it differently. Maybe „Apple Art Pen“ and „Apple Writers Pen“ so you know what it is good for. I don’t mind that they made one without pen pressure. It’s just not ideal for artist. But hey can get the one that still has the pen pressure. You just have to inform yourself before you buy.
I dont care what they name it. If it does not include pressure sensitivity it is of almost no use to me. Next to nothing. Almost nada. I just got a brand-y new ipad pro 2 ( with m-2 chip, applause, please) and while i have an apple pencil 1 that DOES include this feature , i am an artist and the new pencil is going to feel very different, and NOT in a good sorta way. I have a gen7 and it is possible to create at the top of your ability with 1st gen pencil, and not the new pencil.( that does not include pressure sensitivity.) 👩🏻💻That feature , for me, is key. Thank you for educating me on this point, as otherwise i may have bought the wrong pencil. Ill be watching your videos, both past and present. Again, thank you. New subscriber here.👩🏻👩🏻💻🎸😄

This is such a strange change to make... And frankly, I think it's quite a blunder. I would sooner like to see the pressure sensitivity be reduced so a cheaper sensor could be used with less pressur levels, rather than stripping the feature entirely while leaving the tilt detection lol. I'm not one for Apple products to begin with, but this is certainly cementing my preference for products from anyone else.
@@heresyourproblem9939wait the pencil only has 128 levels? lol to that. everything else has 4096, some higher end wacoms go over 8k levels. there is no excuse, an spen thats 40€ to replace (so i assume thats what they actually cost) has preassure. now you say oh but that one is passive, shure thing a surface pen or lenovo pen that is active has 4096 for like 40€.
@@SimonBauer7 Idk where that guy got 128, Apple has not released the actual numbers on their pen's pressure levels. @velvi8359 it has the same pressure sensitivity as the Wacom 4 pro back in 2012. Don't quote me, but I believe modern pressure sensitivity is 6000 something. The reason why they don't have modern pressure sensitivity is believe it or not they use Wacom tech and have a deal with the company, so of course they don't have permission for the new stuff. I believe the same goes for surface saying Wacom wants you to continue to buy cintiques and what not.
@@houndgirl7365 where did you get 6000 from? I'm also not sure what you mean by wacom 4 pro pack, if you are referring to the Intuos4 that has 2048 levels of pen pressure sensitivity. I just love this channel because it’s focused on tech that impacts creatives, a lot of other tech channels are like “the screen is this big, batter is that big” but this is the IMPORTANT stuff. How the new tech can either impacts me or makes my life easier. Love what you do ❤
I’m sorry but this channel has GONE WAY TO EASY ON APPLE! so god damn waht he figure out garbage use for something that most PEOPLE will buy the 3rd party any way? AND WAY CHEAPER !
It feels like this version of the Apple Pencil is a few generations late. There are so many other affordable styluses that are equally hobbled without pressure sensitivity and also your finger. But I guess it's easier for businesses and institutions to buy everything from the same vendor rather than having to get the cheapo iPads but then also source Logitech Crayons or similar styluses. My initial reactions was to dog on Apple because I always look at these tech things from the perspective of an artist. But the sad truth is that we really aren't a big enough market share for Apple to truly cater to us. Otherwise we'd have etched glass options and variations of the Pencil that were more ergonomic for long drawing sessions. Like I would definitely pay the Apple tax for an etched glass iPad Artist edition!
They should call is Apple Pencil lite lol I just hope they keep the Apple Pencil 2 structure going in development or a new version with all the features and improvements.
I feel like calling it apple pencil 3 is the problem. Had they called it apple pencil lite people would have know from the get go that it's not gonna be as good as the apple pencil 2. I think a lot of people were hoping for an improved pencil with the 3rd one and instead they got a downgrade. As long as they still make the apple pencil 2 available for purchase I don't really care but that was a bit of a backwards move.
I was discussing this with my mom, who is just as big of a fan of Apple products as I am. She loves the idea of this new Apple Pencil, because it’s cheaper and suits her needs just fine (content consumption, navigation, occasional note taking). I use my iPad as my sketchbook and for lots of note taking, Adobe Illustrator, etc, so this one wouldn’t be for me. That’s fine…though I wish that was clearer from the name. Call it an Apple Pencil SE or something, maybe?
I can't get over how my pencil-shaped Staedtler EMR stylus doesn't need to be recharged thanks to its wireless magnetic charging technology that EMR-compatible displays can power, is a fourth of the price of the Apple Pencil that can do pen pressure, and is nearly half the price of the new Apple Pencil that can't do pen pressure - while my Staedtler pencil can. The Apple tax really is something else.
The Staedtler pencil was the best thing I ever got for my old Note 10.1. The only reason I don't still use it is because my Tab S7+ upgrade came with a pretty good S-pen too.
I just this week upgraded from my trusty old iPad Mini 2 to an old iPad 7th Gen, lol. I purchased a cheap Apple Pencil Alternative from Amazon and am very pleased with it. I don’t do serious art, but I take a lot of notes and the $17 neon yellow stylus I have works great. It seems to do everything that the new USBC Apple Pencil does and for much less, but Brad makes a great point with these products being intended for the education market. The product makes sense for that use.
I just picked up a $16 stylus that does everything this does, even charging with USB-C, magnets, and tilt sensitivity. Even the palm rejection is nice. Missing hover….but……still would rather have this $16 stylus than spend so much more for something virtually identical. I’ve found it exceedingly handy to take with me when I don’t want to risk taking my expensive pencil with me.
What brand? I am so upset that I just bought an ipad 10 and need to take my charger and adaptor with me to be able to write when I am out and about. It pisses me off to have to buy a new pencil. Maybe I should take the 10 back and get the 9.
Thank you dude. Please don’t apologize for saying something over and over. Most people don’t know what it’s like to be a content creator on RUclips. I appreciate that you’ve put a lot of thought into your audience, both subscribers and for one time viewers.
Brad, you don’t have to try hard to justify Apple’s mistakes… Education market existed when 1st gen pencil had pressure. So it is not that. It is just Apple way of justifying making more iPad models… when they can sell a entry level ipad with at least 1st gen iPad pro features by now, but they don’t…
As someone who isn’t an artist, but uses 2 iPads, it’s a little tempting to get as a second pencil. But it’s already super easy to switch between iPads so probably not. I can imagine they’re gonna make a third gen pencil renamed “Apple Pencil Pro” with the next gen iPad Pros. One that has all the bells and whistles for illustators and shifts the charging coil further up or down the pencil so it can charge on the top edge of an iPad and still accommodate a centered camera.
I usually turn off pressure sensitivity cuz I mostly use mine for bullet journaling. Definitely a bigger deal that they just...removed the super convenient charging. Guess I'll stick with my v2!
Hey man…..waiting on your affinity designer v2 for iPad Pro class. I took your class for the V1 and helped me a ton…..same with the procreate classes…..hungry for that V2 class…..thanks man, you’re a hell of a teacher.
I don't know about pressure sensitivity being essential for making art. It's handy, yes, but we didn't have it on the iPad One, and still art was being made. It just requires another approach, more like pixel art, which is best made without pressure sensitivity and tilt.
The Smart thing to do would be to release a better pencil with more levels of pressure to then lower the price of the regular pencil, but that is a next gen pencil thing likely. My question is will apple finally cave and put buttons/eraser on the apple pencil? Once pencil 2 is the base pencil for all ipads in perhaps 5 years from now I could see apple making a power user pencil . Apple seems to not like the idea of buttons though, but wacom stylus' have had them forever and they are pretty reliable in the longrun too. Since apple got rid of the home button maybe they are downsizing buttons overall, but Macro buttons on the ipad pro would also be amazing. One can dream.
that apple pencil foolery was one of the reasons I said no to the Ipad M1Air ended up getting the tab S8 and I think I'm just gonna stick with Samsung going forward. stylus should just be included.
I am really scratching my head on this one. The one main reason I think is because Apple needs to get rid of the lightning connector so this USB-C budget pencil will work for the EU market. This also makes me wonder if we will get a updated 2nd gen Pencil with the M3 release in 2024 whenever that happens. I see a lot of other YT reviewers scratching their heads on this design as well so I am glad I am not alone in wondering the purpose of this Pencil.
Thank you so much. I’ve just started digital drawing with the iPad and pencil my husband gave me and I’m struggling so much with shadows and now I understand better why 😅
I got the 2nd generation Apple pencil and it does everything that I need to do with it. The newer version is pointless if the features have been left out or removed.
How come Samsung provides a pen with all of their S line tablets for free, including low priced tablets like the S6 Lite which you can currently by for 250 euros? And all of these Samsung S pens are precise pens with pressure sensitivity, tilt support, etc. The only difference in the high end is that those have additional Bluetooth features, plus the newest ones are water resistant IP68 rated. But all of them are included with the tablets. And all of these pens are compatible with all Samsung S tablets for the basic purpose of drawing, btw.
I don't think it is only for education or kids. Even though a lot of people show interest in drawing on the iPad and Procreate, not many people actually do or rather very few professionals use iPad for digital painting. Even the RUclipsrs who buy iPad Pro and Apple Pencil do it to make a review and not for daily use or changing what they have. However, I think most people who use iPad professionally are vector artists and designers using Affinity Designer or illustrator, video editors and so on. No one needs Pressure Sensitivity except for digital artists who use Procreate or similar app. The majority of consumers use apple pencil for note taking, navigation, video editing and vector art that doesn't need pressure sensitivity at all. Anyways, that is only my thought on this subject.
I am sorry, but S-Pen is the best stylus I have ever used! The nib's feeling is amazing! Apple Pencil who?! Honestly, wish more of the devs ported their apps onto the Android tablets. I would not look back!
The whole reason we buy the apple pencil is because of the pressure sensitivity. Third parties like logitech us there for the cheaper option without it. Its uniqueness is the pressure sensitivity. Its a dumb move.
I don't understand why the pen pressure is needed for learning digital art. I'm trying to draw outlines that are the same thickness. That doesn't happen with pen pressure. That actually makes it harder to learn how to draw digitally. So I was gonna get the Apple Pencil 2 for a newer iPad I'm trying to get and then plan on turning off the pen pressure since that's not an option for the Apple Pencil 1. That's the only thing that I don't like about the Apple Pencil 1. That has to be on. So I learned that I'm gonna have to go over my starting spot for the outline 'cause it's gonna be thinner (not by too much, but I like it to be as perfectly even as I can get my outline). I don't make outlines that are the skinny to thick. Mine are all the same thickness. So pen pressure i.m.o. isn't good for a beginner that is learning how to do outlines that are neat and the same thickness if that's how they want their outline to be. I was also planning on turning the eraser off since a lot of people already do that and I know with how much I grip on the pencil and want to just grab it, I want to avoid the pencil thinking that I want it on eraser mode. Now I wouldn't need to turn that off since the new one doesn't have that feature. Plus, this pencil is gonna be $80 (about $85 with tax). Which is way nicer of a price since the first gen is still $100 and I can't use that one on a newer iPad that isn't a regular iPad...
Yeah, I like to turn pressure sensitivity off too. I like clean and even lines. This feels like an upgrade to me. Can understand others being cross about it.
It’s about the use case. This pen is specifically designed with the student/working adult in mind. When you’re taking notes or brainstorming, you don’t need pen pressure. Releasing a cheaper pencil means they also get under that $100+ price tag for the Apple Pencil 2. A lot of people don’t buy an Apple Pencil if their primary use case is note taking, dictation and mark-up. They instead buy one of those 3rd party pens that Brad talks about int the beginning. Why spend over $100 for a fancy stylus when you can spend $30 on Amazon and get a stylus that does everything they need.
... this is a stretch, but perhaps either A) they are planning to include pen pressure into the display itself in future models or B) perhaps the display has more to do with the pen pressure than we think? Those are just random guesses. Anyway, great video as always Brad!
I mean I feel like it makes more sense for students, especially since the base ipad doesn’t support the magnetic one. Lowkey insane it costs that much tho.
@@chidorirasenganz They definitely have the same or even more features, one brand even has wireless charging on them that connect to the side of the ipad. Also, its a $20 pencil, why would you need apple care for something that cheap?
Honestly, i never ever use pressure sensitivity while drawing and I’m a pro 😅 Plain Line Gang P.S. it might only bother me a little while 3d sculpting 🤔
I have memory issues so I tend to forget a lot so you repeating the info is a very good thing for me!!! I love your videos .. now that I finally have my new glasses .. I need to look into the drawing course :) My drawings will not be very accurate - I am half blind :) but I enjoy and learn helpful stuff even if I cannot reproduce things accurately! Thank you for doing all this !!!
I understand the need to fill in the niche of the student writing for a more affordable cost that works with newer ipads I do NOT understand why they didn't make it a point to differentiate the two gen2 pencils visually. That's just going to confuse people
this is just going to end up confusing people. like, recent ipads are usb-c so im sure a lot of people will think "oh, i need the usb-c one to match my ipad!" and wont look too much into the features
I don’t understand who would buy this model as expensive as it still is. If they had a $50 pencil to compete with the off-brand rivals, I could see it. But who in their right mind would pay $79 for a pencil with no pressure sensitivity when it’s not all that much more to just get the Apple Pencil 2?
A third-party stylus pen with that few features would NOT cost that much. Losing that pen pressure is hugely disappointing. Should have called it "Lite"/"Air" for something. I generally do not like chargeable styluses (so I'm already not in the market for this) but come on, Apple. Come on.
Hot take: the next gen entry level ipad will support the Apple pencil 2. So the first gen will be discontinued. That would mean, that in order to have the pressure sensotivity experience, you will need to buy an ipad pro, because all the lower-end ipads will only support the third gen apple pencil. Or maybe they will make the right move and support the apple pencil 2 and 3, so you have a choice for each ipad.
lmao wow, I've been considering switching to an android tablet since you showed the S9 ultra and leaving the apple ecosystem completely. This confirms it for me. Tablet that costs the same, is much bigger, expandable memory, AND COMES WITH THEIR PRESSURE SENSITIVE PEN!!!! while apple continues to screw us year after year to see how much they can get away with. nah, time to put our foot down and reward companies that actually listen.
I bought a S8 since it was on sale with a 512gig SD card and a bunch of accessories like 10 plastic nibs and a paper like screen protector a good case on it too it's amazing and all that for less than a 10th gen iPad air base model with a pencil gen 1 The tab is great and I really appreciate the wacom tech built into it it's like my drawing tablet but it's a portable tab I love it
I think they kept the tilt sensitivity in because that it the ‘cheap’ stylus way to get thin/thick lines. It’s not as smooth as pressure sensitivity, but that’s how I get by with my Zagg pencil, and honestly it’s done the job. And the art programs tilt will still work even without the pressure sensitivity. So if my Zagg is cheaper than that new Apple Pencil, I’d probably still get the Zagg haha, kind of a dumb choice for them when they’ve already left that price gap open in the market for others to fill, like Zagg (Logitech?) and so on. If I were to upgrade my tablet I may upgrade to a full feature Apple Pencil 2 now because I have experience doing good art on my iPad at this point and I do it in place of a desktop tablet. But you can buy a simple desktop tablet for about as much as the Apple Pencil, but I guess it depends on how you work and finding the cheapest way to do that😂
i actually didn't know there was drama around this, or even heard that there was going to be a new one. also the new apple pencil seems strange for me since i always used the one with the silver part at the end. and because some new stuff just seems weird. random thing but: i really hope i dont have to replace my apple pencil with the new one, because ive been using the one i have, for years. and during summer i accidentally leaned my elbow onto it and cracked it at the silver part alittle. luckily it still charges, but i really hope it continues to work.
They saw how many styluses 3rd parties sell and thought to themselves "that profit can be us" and so now we have this cheaper one, people will buy it because it has the logo and is cheaper than the old ones even though it is a bit more expensive than the 3re party styluses online
non-laminated screen: a laminated screen CAN be separated, it just takes longer and requires more tools. So yes nonlaminated is easier and quicker to replace, though it isnt always true that you must trash the whole assembly.
I love that you are doing this. I think you should have a course on tilt sensitivity for artist too. Since some can’t afford the Apple Pencil 2nd gen. It would really help
They was able to afford the iPad but not the 100$ pen with pro features for it? Kinda sus. And stylus without pressure sencitivity IMO is just as good as drawing with fingers. -_-
you clearly aren’t an artist if you haven’t found the Logitec Crayon that has the same function as USB-C pencil YEARS before this garbage of a pencil was out! and that Crayon can be even found at 20-30$ WAYY cheaper that this garbage one
Why not remove the hover feature instead of pressure sensitivity I don't think the ones who are aiming for a cheaper pen with slight sacrifices are the ones who own the most recent and high end iPad Pros
I just bought an iPad pro, pencil and downloaded procreate. I'm clueless to all of them. With that said, what pencil should i buy now to get the pressure?
I think it depends on your needs. Even before I went digital, I was using multiple Rotring pens for art, cause I felt the lines were more consistent. I own an iPad + Apple Pencil, but I really don't make use of pressure sensitivity much anyway.
I have found $20 ones that are now my favorite Apple Pencil alternatives, they have a pressure curve via tilt, triangular shape, weak magnets that do allow it to attach to the side of the iPad, USB port on the end. No longer available, glad I got two. I have a few Apple Alternatives that are OKAY... I also have two PROPER Apple Pencils. So it's not like I chose these over the real things, but wanted one for when I was not at home and if I lost in public wouldn't cry over losing a 100+ USD pencil.
I may be confused. I just purchased an iPad Pro 12.9 and a 2nd generation Apple Pencil. In Procreate, it seems I'm able to adjust the pressure. Is this video pertaining to a different Apple Pencil?
I believe the problem is the name. Apple Pencil 3 sounds like something better than Apple Pencil 2. If it was an Apple Pencil Student, nobody would complain.
I use 3rd party stylus with almost similar features with this ‘new’ apple pencil (except the hover I guess) with much cheaper price and it works fine. Palm rejection, tilt, low latency, attaches magnetically, there’s even other 3rd party stylus that can be charged wirelessly. Like it is completely the same usability, except there’s apple brand stamped on it and that’s all 😂
Maybe it's for those who want to just take notes while also using something made by Apple. I don't know, Apple has been making a lot of weird design decisions lately.
I feel really bad for students who end up having to use these mediocre pencils. The Apple pencil is one of the greatest inventions ever made because of that pressure sensitivity COMBINED with tilt sensitivity.
80 dollars for a pen like this... just get a 3rd party pen that supports MagSafe charging Heck, in amazon they're selling one with pressure sensitivity for 30 bucks LOL
The point that the 10th-gen iPad is for the educational market has me wondering if they should just rename it to the ePad, like how the eMac was a cheaper iMac for schools. Would make it less confusing than having an additional "iPad" below Air where you don't see that on the MacBook side anymore.

How is an art channel doing more comprehensive technology reviews than actual tech channels?
Because this is mainly a tech channel. Like yeah, Brad is an artist, but he is creating his illustrations mainly as a way to showcase the products he's reviewing and showing off all the possible strengths and weaknesses an artist might encounter when using these tools.
same reason music channels do the best reviews of gear. professionals who work with the gear everyday actually know best.
My theory: apple quietly phases out the gen 1 pencil, USBC version becomes the new Gen 1 and then gen 2 becomes Pencil Pro
most tech channels are very friendly towards certain brands. its why almost no one points the major issues in IOS, but lots will point out what lacks in android(like airdrop or "ecosystem", even though theres multiple apps and programs for it, with more features and ease of use than apple)
Because many technology channels are paid or get benefits for talking good about apples products.

I'm sorry, but pressure sensitivity is also necessary for quality handwriting. Apple is extortionate as ever
Yea they clearly missed their mark
why necessary for handwriting ?

I don't think I've ever actually used tilt on any pen device. I would have cut tilt over pressure. Super weird choice imo.
Apple already uses a standard significantly lower than what other art hardware uses. 128 levels, vs 4000+ Levels with Wacom/Huion.

Se*
I personally despise apple products
If you are only using it for a basic stylus might as well save the money and buy a third party. This is a totally useless product for apple to produce
The lack of pen pressure is such a bafflingly bad choice. It’s useless for art without it
I can't get over how my pencil-shaped Staedtler EMR stylus doesn't need to be recharged thanks to its wireless magnetic charging technology that EMR-compatible displays can power, is a fourth of the price of the Apple Pencil that can do pen pressure, and is nearly half the price of the new Apple Pencil that can't do pen pressure - while my Staedtler pencil can.
Does your pencil have pressure sensitivity? How did it affect your art?
I just picked up a $16 stylus that does everything this does, even charging with USB-C, magnets, and tilt sensitivity. Even the palm rejection is nice. Missing hover….but……still would rather have this $16 stylus than spend so much more for something virtually identical. I’ve found it exceedingly handy to take with me when I don’t want to risk taking my expensive pencil with me.
What brand? I am so upset that I just bought an ipad 10 and need to take my charger and adaptor with me to be able to write when I am out and about. It pisses me off to have to buy a new pencil. Maybe I should take the 10 back and get the 9.
you can get that one for like 7 bucks, for 11 theres even one with wireless charging, really makes apples intentions clear lmao
buying this $80 pen instead of a third party pen with exactly the same feature for only $20ish feels like getting pranked by apple
It would've made sense at $30-40.
Why dont they also have a version keeping everything but just change to usb c
Thank you dude. Please don’t apologize for saying something over and over. Most people don’t know what it’s like to be a content creator on RUclips. I appreciate that you’ve put a lot of thought into your audience, both subscribers and for one time viewers.
Brad, you don’t have to try hard to justify Apple’s mistakes… Education market existed when 1st gen pencil had pressure. So it is not that. It is just Apple way of justifying making more iPad models… when they can sell a entry level ipad with at least 1st gen iPad pro features by now, but they don’t…
*laughs in SonarPen having pen pressure on and ipad for $35
As someone who isn’t an artist, but uses 2 iPads, it’s a little tempting to get as a second pencil.
Without pressure sensitivity, it’s like a broken pencil: pointless.
I was kinda bummed out when i found out that it didnt have pressure sensitivity 😕
I jut got an Apple Pencil2 for the very purpose of pressure sensitivity....it's not working though and I'm searching around to find out why

Is this new Apple Pencil just the Logitec crayon relaunched?
Heads up there's a weird cut at 5:54
I am really scratching my head on this one.
They better keep selling the old good pens
This new Apple Pencil situation frustrates me so much. All they should have done is put a Type C plug on the first gen Pencil!!!
Okay I’m so glad this wasn’t a rant. That’s all I been seeing when I just want to see what’s up with the pencil.
Which is way nicer of a price since the first gen is still $100 and I can't use that one on a newer iPad that isn't a regular iPad...
pen pressure is to make your art look more "real looking" or smth ig
Yeah, I like to turn pressure sensitivity off too. I like clean and even lines. This feels like an upgrade to me. Can understand others being cross about it.
Was researching a samsung tab for art and school, ended up staying even tho I already got my product. The videos are top notch, thank you!

I understand the need to fill in the niche of the student writing for a more affordable cost that works with newer ipads
I do NOT understand why they didn't make it a point to differentiate the two gen2 pencils visually.
This video just randomly popped up. I’m glad it popped up as an artist. Thanks for the video.
lmao wow, I've been considering switching to an android tablet since you showed the S9 ultra and leaving the apple ecosystem completely.
I bought a S8 since it was on sale with a 512gig SD card and a bunch of accessories like 10 plastic nibs and a paper like screen protector a good case on it too it's amazing and all that for less than a 10th gen iPad air base model with a pencil gen 1
The tab is great and I really appreciate the wacom tech built into it it's like my drawing tablet but it's a portable tab
I love it
Come to the Samsung side... join us... jooiiin uuuussss...
Pencil 2 is on sale for $89 often. Just look out for sales
But you can buy a simple desktop tablet for about as much as the Apple Pencil, but I guess it depends on how you work and finding the cheapest way to do that😂
i actually didn't know there was drama around this, or even heard that there was going to be a new one.
also the new apple pencil seems strange for me since i always used the one with the silver part at the end. and because some new stuff just seems weird.
random thing but:
i really hope i dont have to replace my apple pencil with the new one, because ive been using the one i have, for years. and during summer i accidentally leaned my elbow onto it and cracked it at the silver part alittle. luckily it still charges, but i really hope it continues to work.
Are they discontinuing version two or are they still selling it?
They saw how many styluses 3rd parties sell and thought to themselves "that profit can be us" and so now we have this cheaper one, people will buy it because it has the logo and is cheaper than the old ones even though it is a bit more expensive than the 3re party styluses online
i think i'll just stick with my 1st gen apple pencil on my 9th gen ipad
Still don't like apple... got the new galaxy 9 ultra...loving every minute of it
why are they removing pen pressure when it literally costs 4 times that of a wacom replacement pen 😭
With Wacom there is a lot more tech in the screen itself, making the pens simpler and cheaper
@@sloppynyuszi i was so confused 💀 but atleast it has palm rejection
non-laminated screen:
a laminated screen CAN be separated, it just takes longer and requires more tools. So yes nonlaminated is easier and quicker to replace, though it isnt always true that you must trash the whole assembly.
they shouldn't have called it the Pencil 3 then. They should have called it the 2B.
Heyooo! 😄
I think it's great you keep repeating things for newcomers. That's how I started but then I stayed and liked watching your videos.
For what is the Tilt functionality in use outside of the purpose of creating digital drawings?
Why not remove the hover feature instead of pressure sensitivity
I don't think the ones who are aiming for a cheaper pen with slight sacrifices are the ones who own the most recent and high end iPad Pros
Phew! I thought you were going to say that Apple was removing pressure sensitivity from ALL Apple Pencils. That would have been sheer madness!
I believe the problem is the name.
Apple Pencil 3 sounds like something better than Apple Pencil 2.
If it was an Apple Pencil Student, nobody would complain.
Make sense for student who need it for note taking but definitely not for artist. I think that’s a great idea on Apple.
what about ipad 10 users? they need a dongle to use apple pencil since apple pencil 2 aint supported

05:54 there's a weird cut...
I came looking for this comment. Good balanced piece nonetheless.
I use 3rd party stylus with almost similar features with this ‘new’ apple pencil (except the hover I guess) with much cheaper price and it works fine. Palm rejection, tilt, low latency, attaches magnetically, there’s even other 3rd party stylus that can be charged wirelessly. Like it is completely the same usability, except there’s apple brand stamped on it and that’s all 😂
Just seems like they looked at the sales of the Logitech Crayon (which they helped make) and thought oh we could do this too
Maybe it's for those who want to just take notes while also using something made by Apple. I don't know, Apple has been making a lot of weird design decisions lately.
I feel really bad for students who end up having to use these mediocre pencils. The Apple pencil is one of the greatest inventions ever made because of that pressure sensitivity COMBINED with tilt sensitivity.
I got the genaration 2 and man it’s not good with out pen pressure so what pen should I get I have a 3r gen iPad
80 dollars for a pen like this... just get a 3rd party pen that supports MagSafe charging
Heck, in amazon they're selling one with pressure sensitivity for 30 bucks LOL
The point that the 10th-gen iPad is for the educational market has me wondering if they should just rename it to the ePad, like how the eMac was a cheaper iMac for schools. Would make it less confusing than having an additional "iPad" below Air where you don't see that on the MacBook side anymore.
yea but if the 10th gen ipad changed into epad then there would be no entry level ipad other than the ipad 9 which has the stupid old home button
