Yep, this shooter was developed by Compile, the same company who did MUSHA for the Genesis, Zanac and Gun-Nac for the NES, and Space Megaforce for the SNES. Their shooters always rock!!
One of my favorites. Lots of nostalgia for this game. My uncle had Turbografix 16 in his "computer room." Every time I went there with my parents, I escaped there to play Blazing Lazers and Bonk's Adventure.
Haha! I always wondered if there was a person out there who would play a game at a store's videogame demo booth just to complete a game. You've just provided me with the answer!
I still need to buy this game for my TG-16. I'd always avoided buying shmups because although i love them, I'm terrible at them. But I've recently been trying to get better by playing games like Android Assault & Gate of Thunder
I'm still rocking the TG-16 in 2015, unfortunately I don't have Blazing Lazers but after checking out this review I'm gonna keep my eyes peeled for this gem.
The little orb weapon floating off to the side of your ship reminds me a lot of the R-Type series [shame that line ended/turned into a tactical strategy game]!
The sound effects, voice over and weapons are practically identical to Super Aleste or Space Mega Force in the States. Good to know where the SNES game got it's idea from.
I really wish I had owned and played Blazing Lazers for my TG-16, back in the day. Oh well, it's still cool to see it online in the present. During this review, you mentioned a game called Star Solider for the NES It sounds like a fun space shooter as well =) Will you review it one day, too?
One of the best shooters ever. An incredibly fun game with state-of-the-art-for-1989 graphics and great songs and sound effects. An absolute blast to play! Important: every time you stack the letter power up (H/S/M/F) you get another bomb.
the game was released in japan as gunhed in a tie in to a movie of the same name, ive seen the movie, its awesome, and for its time, the effects are great, check it out if u liked blazing lazers/gunhed
TerrariumFusilage1 i just a turbo as well. It came with blazing lasers ninja spirit and some others. Ninja spirit is so good. I recommend devils crush. Its one of the oy pinball games i like. I also recommend nuotupoa. Is a good Zelda style game.
I had that game on my TG-16, back in the 90's. I once played it all thru the end, where I could see the generic. Too bad I did not record that game on VHS (back then.....) I wanna find it back on some emulator.
I played this on my TG16 last night for probably an hour or more and got to area 5 with ease but then kept getting blown out of the sky by the relentless onslaught of easter island statue blasts and pyramid missles. Super fun high score of around 1,250,000 and I absolutely love the audio in the game.
this game is a beast! I play it with s-video turbo duo. Very similar enhancement like your s-video genesis. hey you gotta keep it real with busting out those VHS tapes. Is it me or doesn't 2010 sound so futuristic lol
You are probably referring to the Dungeon Explorer series. The sequel is really rare in the USA, and it had some localization and voice work that was done by Working Designs for Hudson soft.
It works just fine and better than a VCR. I've done it with an NES and had great results. He could also get a DVR/PVR or DVD recorder to replace his VCR. Most of them take all the same connections and more. (Wow. So many thumbs down. Was my question that bad???)
My personal favorite weapon in this game is the IV power up mixed with the F option. It is a massive, rotating, forward moving spherical monolith of a weapon.
I never owned a Turbo Graphix back in the day, but this is the game that would have forced me to buy it. Back in the day, I was more of a ThunderForce, Musha, and Truxton fan!
Is it just me or do Classic Game room videos take a lot longer to load than most other youtube vids? Im not talking full HD either, just standard quality? I have a pretty fast connection ( 8MB/PS ) fo where I live. Scotland!
Looks just fine (quality) People put too much hype in HD :) I laugh when people brag that their vids are HD when they're not true HD. And I'm not referring to you InecomCompany.. I promise it up and down.
hey mark you know the turbografx outputs AV from the pins in the back of the console, you don't have to suffer with RF bro. I made my own composite cable and turbo games have never looked so good.
Compile developed, or helped to develop the BEST or at least some of the best shooters ever, including the Aleste series (Power Strike, M.U.S.H.A., Space Megaforce, Power Strike II, Robo Aleste, etc.). I ve always seen Blazing Lazers as a sort of spiritual predecessor or sequel to the Aleste series, as well as The Guardian Legend. Also, Compile programmed the Sega Master System version of R-Type, and made the absolutely beautiful and awesome Golvellius. Anyway, I freaking LOVE Compile! :)
@ioport Actually, the Turbografx/PC Engine had an 8bit CPU that was extremely fast - faster than the SNES and at least as fast as the Genesis/Mega Drive. It had two 16bit graphic chips and was able to display 482 out of 512 colours on screen at once. The Turbografx 16/PC Engine, especially the PCE, was able to stay in the game through three different gaming eras - the 8bit, 16bit, and even into the 32 era. OBEY
Blazeing Lazers such a classic shmup for the TG16.Btw,mark the developer for it was by (compile) the same company that did musha if you didn't know that.
ahhh how refreshing. my dad worked for NEC the company that made these and got a bunch of free consoles and games. a few more reviews u could do are for the portable gameboy-esque gamestystem they make or games like slaughterhouse and the bonk series
I think I'm gonna have to pick up a tg-16 now. Way back in the days where I couldnt afford both and had to chose one 16bit console, I choose the Genesis. One reason was because I've read that tg-16 wasnt really 16bit but 8bit lol.
Ok, I know this is off topic, but does anyone know the name of the TurboGrafx-16 game where you are a wizard or some thing like that, and it is like a Gauntlet type game. All I can remember is the thing the char shot. It was a circle of shapes, a circle, a triangle and a square. If anyone can help with that would be awesome. Thanks.
Interesting to see the ship (from 2:08 - 2:13) actually flying when the ship itself has been blown up and is gone - not many aircraft are built well enough to fly with one main wing - and no body. :)
umm.. just one correction, Blazing Lazers is not made by Hudson Soft but Compile's, it belongs to the Aleste series of games, Hudson is only the publisher.
Very True. I would rather watch a 30 second to 2 minute commercial, than pay a subscription fee to watch youtube. The money has to come from somewhere, whether it be through ads, or your wallet.
@actionfigures95 Soldier Blade? Aero Blasters? FInal Soldier? Darius Alpha/Plus? R-Type? R-Type II? Raiden? Super Star Soldier? Gradius? It even had some great cute 'em ups like Detana Twin Bee and Fantasy Zone... What about the TurboGrafx-CD? Ai Cho Aniki? Gate Of Thunder? Gradius II? Lords Of Thunder? Super Darius? Super Raiden? Zero Wing?
I'm impressed the game looks quite good, might pick it up cause I am looking at a turbografx 16 and if he will willing to come down to my price then this will be a game to get.
Yep, this shooter was developed by Compile, the same company who did MUSHA for the Genesis, Zanac and Gun-Nac for the NES, and Space Megaforce for the SNES. Their shooters always rock!!
One of my favorites for the system. Awesome, awesome game. This is a must have if you own a TG-16
ONE OF MY FAVORITE SHOOTING GAMES OF ALL TIME. THE WEAPON UPGRADES ARE GREAT AND THE MUSIC SOUNDTRACK IS ON POINT!! GREAT GAME!!!!
These are the essence of video games. You sit down and keep playing until you get good enough to clear the game.
Another great review.
I lost so many hours of my life on this game back when I had my Turbo as a kid in 1989!!!!
This games a beast! Thanks for keeping the memory alive!
One of my favorites. Lots of nostalgia for this game. My uncle had Turbografix 16 in his "computer room." Every time I went there with my parents, I escaped there to play Blazing Lazers and Bonk's Adventure.
One of the best shooters ever made. I have gotten soft over the years tho, and this game kicks my ass ghost and goblins style.
The first game I ever played on the T-16 as a kid and I'm so glad I own it now. The game's an amazing shooter and worth checking out on the VC.
this game is awesome! one of the best shooters ever made
Holy crap, the turbografx runs so freakin fast. They could've given blast processing a run for its money
My dad bought my tg16 with blazing lazers and final lap twin. I had a decent childhood :*)***
oh my god... this game looks incredible
ZOMG! My favorite Turbografx-16 game gets the recognition it deserves!
Just playing it for the 1st time yesterday. Bought a TG16 mini. Instant love. Game is awesome. Next I’m craving NES Gun.Smoke
My favorite TG-16 game, well this and Legendary Axe II.
Haha! I always wondered if there was a person out there who would play a game at a store's videogame demo booth just to complete a game. You've just provided me with the answer!
I was wondering why some sound effects, music, and enemy design reminded me of Gaurdian Legend! Nice
I still need to buy this game for my TG-16. I'd always avoided buying shmups because although i love them, I'm terrible at them. But I've recently been trying to get better by playing games like Android Assault & Gate of Thunder
I still have my Turbografx and a copy of this game as well!
It looks like the date says 1959 at the title screen!
I sold my TG-16 and all games when I was 13. Kiiiiiiiinda wish I kept it.
He conquered fear and he conquered hate
He turned our night into day
He made his blazing laser
A torch to light the way
The sound effects, voice over and weapons are practically identical to Super Aleste or Space Mega Force in the States. Good to know where the SNES game got it's idea from.
Love these older videos.
Also, the intro music is really .. retro sounding.
I can't get over how great this game's name is. Seriously!
The Guardian Legend saved my childhood!! Fucking awsome!!
I really wish I had owned and played Blazing Lazers for my TG-16, back in the day. Oh well, it's still cool to see it online in the present. During this review, you mentioned a game called Star Solider for the NES It sounds like a fun space shooter as well =) Will you review it one day, too?

I plan to pick up a shmup today, Soldier Blade or Blazing Lazers?
Hello from 2020. Started playing this on my turbografx mini and it's great!
I noticed that this game is very similar to Super Aleste. Looks pretty fun!
This game have some really cool music
I only have one game for my TurboExpress and it's this awesome game Blazing Lazers! Which I got both for $40, not for sale.
SWeeeeeet my request came through!!
Love this game, excellent shmup. Especially like the weapons and upgrade system
the game was released in japan as gunhed in a tie in to a movie of the same name, ive seen the movie, its awesome, and for its time, the effects are great, check it out if u liked blazing lazers/gunhed
wish i had a TG 16 and a NEO GEO. thats old school, lol, keeping it real.
i remember playing this game before.
Grew up playing this awesome game... Awesome music, fun game...
Wow- that games truly looks awesome! Though, I'm an R-Type guy, but still- this one is great!
you should review "Master of Weapon" for genesis or arcade... that game is an awesome shooter
man I really want this game! Finally got a Turbografx-16 and Keith Courage just isn't cutting it
TerrariumFusilage1 i just a turbo as well. It came with blazing lasers ninja spirit and some others. Ninja spirit is so good. I recommend devils crush. Its one of the oy pinball games i like. I also recommend nuotupoa. Is a good Zelda style game.

I'm still rocking the TG16 :P
This is my favorite game for tg16. I've never beaten it, but I got to the second to last level. It's just too fun.
I played this on my TG16 last night for probably an hour or more and got to area 5 with ease but then kept getting blown out of the sky by the relentless onslaught of easter island statue blasts and pyramid missles. was waiting for this CRHD!!! thanks!!
Nice one Mark.
You should try Side Arms: Hyper Dyne on the TG16.
It's a sie scrolling shooter with giant robots.
And they dry hump the air.
RUclips takes a long time to code the videos properly, watch this vid again in a few hours & you'll see its better

TURBOGRAFX 16 RULES!!
Reminds me of Super Aleste (Space Megaforce).
My personal favorite weapon in this game is the IV power up mixed with the F option. It is a massive, rotating, forward moving spherical monolith of a weapon.
wait, an island in space? How does that work? Is it like an astroid surrounded by floating water?
I never owned a Turbo Graphix back in the day, but this is the game that would have forced me to buy it. Back in the day, I was more of a ThunderForce, Musha, and Truxton fan!

man the countless hours i spent on this game in my youth....i should buy it again now because i never beat it....
Thanx for the review! Great game! I play it now on VC!
The powerup bubbles are the same as those in Gun-Nac, it must be made by the same people.
@BuckFastZombie
I have to press play manually on these videos..
Top 3 best shooter of all time.
I'm definitely buying this on the Wii's Virtual Console.
@Morahman7vnNo2 The sounds and music in Blazing Lazers aren't even in stereo anyway as far as I can tell.
I´m not a big fan of the genre, but this game it´s one of my favorite shooters of all time!
hey mark you know the turbografx outputs AV from the pins in the back of the console, you don't have to suffer with RF bro. I made my own composite cable and turbo games have never looked so good.
You should get soldier Blade on tg16, ITS THE BOMB.
I've always wanted to build a lego set from the game and that will be my dream after getting through community college.

Does anyone know what the side scroller game is called where youre a baby with a bone for a weapon? I used to have it and i wanna look it up. Thx
This game was and still is a blast. If you like this style gameplay, you can't beat Ikaruga on the Dreamcast. Awesome and addicting.
You can tell the VHS from the tracking noise at the top!

wow great graphics for such an old game, bet it looks great on the wii too
You are exactly right. Nintendo had nothing on the PC engine untill the SNES came out, even then it took a few years.
gotta get me a turbografx-16.

so how much is a working system like that these days? OR does anyone know of good emulator
@madsli
Not really. Gun-Nac was made by Compile.
-kidThunder
Soldier Blade is the best shooter on the system. This one is #2.
Interesting to see the ship (from 2:08 - 2:13) actually flying when the ship itself has been blown up and is gone - not many aircraft are built well enough to fly with one main wing - and no body. :)
Space version of Amiga Battle Squadron :) Blazing Lazers is very addictive shooter! 5/5
could you make a few more modern reviews plz?
umm.. just one correction, Blazing Lazers is not made by Hudson Soft but Compile's, it belongs to the Aleste series of games, Hudson is only the publisher.
looks awesome, specially for it's time O_o
Very True. I would rather watch a 30 second to 2 minute commercial, than pay a subscription fee to watch youtube. The money has to come from somewhere, whether it be through ads, or your wallet.
The music is amazing in the game, probably the game that comes the closes to musha
Those are very common. I found mine in the CD area- four turbografix games, including this shooter. I want to get the console so I can play it.
@actionfigures95 Soldier Blade? Aero Blasters? FInal Soldier? Darius Alpha/Plus? R-Type? R-Type II? Raiden? Super Star Soldier? Gradius? i finished this game, standing at the demo booth of a Radio Shack.
wow looks amazing
