  • Some how I had only just realised that I hadn't reacted to Pantera in a while. 2 weeks to be exact. I thought it was time to listen to some more. I already know there are so many more great songs from them that I need to make a reaction to. I can't wait to dive deeper into their music. So far from everything I have heard, I know they're going to become one of my favourite bands.
Here is my reaction to Pantera - 5 Minutes Alone for the first time. I hope you enjoy it!

I live in Grand Rapids Michigan and whenever they came to town they would visit the Alpine Lounge (later called 10 Bells) where my then girlfriend bartended and I helped out with security. I had drinks with the guys a few times over the years. They always remembered me and I think sipping Crown Royal with Dimebag was one of the coolest memories I have to this day... Unpopular opinion but the whole of reinventing the steel felt off. It was over produced. The best analogy I can put to it is that it was their marriage counselling album. They did it for one last shot. 3 of them wanted to be there, one didn't but they felt obliged to do it.
It's actually a testament to their ability because it was solid but it didn't have the same feel as cowboys, vulgar, far beyond or trendkill.

Pantera is unique in the respect that they were the first really heavy band with a ton of commercial success esp for the 90s when everyone was changing their sound. Check out Yesterday Don't Mean Shit from their Ozzfest gig, you'll fucking love it. One of the relatively few live pro-shoots of a Pantera show, and it sounds incredible. That whole short set is amazing

Revolution is My Name, Yesterday Don't Mean S##T, Death Rattlesnakes, I Cast a Shadow, Uplift, Drag the Water, Mouth For War, Becoming, Hollow, Domination, Shedding Skin, I'm Broken, By Demons Be Driven. So many awesome riffs that Dime created. Put that all together with Vinnie, T-Rex and Phil and you just cant go wrong with them.
