Honestly they never would have been able to make charges stick against him In the real world since he had no idea that the furnace was malfunctioning. The only thing he could be charged with was like a prank of trying to lock a fellow student in the basement. They probably wouldn't even get manslaughter charges. There was zero intent to do real harm
