They do. Every year. The best was that Hawaiian mixed girl from like '02-06! She was the head drum major & got buck better than ALLLLLLLL the boys!
@kimmie6209 She pulled back up from the split the same as the guys. She's more than good enough to have made this squad, and considering JSU's legacy, I'm sure they didn't choose her just because. She had tried out previously and didn't make it. Please don't deminish her accomplishment because she's a female.

I had the pleasure of witnessing this Great & Legendary Band for the first time in the mid-1960s at a game with Mississippi Valley State University...Wonderful and I have never forgotten it.

I grew up in Florida thinking the 100 was the baddest. Now I know.
They are up there too. Our band teacher from highschool in NC went to Famu and she brought all of Famu with her lol. But we played music from all over though.

@@DaJSUDiva there are plenty that are just as good, to some may be better, depending on where you are from, you get use to certain ones. I'm from NC, so you already know NC A&T is in my bloodline. That's why I like going to different battle of the bands so you can see the difference and similarities in various bands.
I've seen bands just as good but I haven't seen any Drum Majors this good. Please post if you have footage. I'm from GA and I've been watching HBCU Bands since the 80s. Morris Brown was one of my favorites then and of course our band FVSU. I have 2 cousins that played in FAMU Band. IMO, The best band now is PVA.

Sean James No it's not specifically a male position. They are really just leaders of the band. At my high school we had 2 female drum majors every year. It was tradition at my school. Also, females are often better dancers so they just looked better during our dance routines.

Traditionally, at FLORIDA A & M, Drum Majors must meet a height requirement. I think it's 6 feet. Women are typically just not that tall. I'm LOV'IN the girl power in this vid though!!! Feeling hella proud cause SHE ROCK'IN.
