That paper trimmer is cool, I had no idea such a thing existed
They are hard to find
Wow. I respect that level of organisation
Don’t get too excited, I had to clean up before filming.
@@TheNakedPhotographer good to know that you're human haha
What a dream setup!
Hi, thanks for the video it is really helpful as going to be setting up a darkroom next year.
Excellent. I'm in the planning stages and this showed me I don't need a huge room. A guy down the road has a 8 foot sink but is not upfront on the cost. The only thing about your tour is you didn't show the hook where you hang your clothes when you do naked darkroom stuff?
It would have been nice to hear a bit about how you ventilated your darkroom. Maybe you could address that in a future video.
Andrew C I’ll see what I can come up with
Very impressed with your organizational skills.
You should see the pile of stuff I moved so the video camera wouldn’t see it!
My darkroom currently doubles as a linen closet. Going to be doing home shopping in a year or two and I want to try and find a place that has a space for a darkroom. I’m used to working in a super small set up, so your darkroom is inspiration
Great video - pls can you explain watch outs for ventilation to stay safe with all the chemicals - have you any tips here? Thanks!
It's fun to see how another person has dealt with the problems of building a darkroom in an existing and limited space. Mine is a bit smaller, having started life as the area where coal was dumped into a bin to fuel a furnace and then converted by the prior owner into a room to do his wood working. I have the advantage of having also taken over the adjoining canning storage closet to store surplus equipment, supplies and a large inventory of base chemicals from which I mix up the various photo chemistry I use. In retrospect, I wish I had added 50% more floor space to the darkroom when construction started, but too late now.
Really nice darkroom. Very well thought out and looks like it works perfectly for you. What is the biggest size prints that you make?
I'll be moving soon and setting up a new darkroom, you have given me some great ideas. Cheers!
Good!
Wow! Great set up. Serious darkroom envy.
Very efficient use of space!
Very nice.Enjoy
Really enjoy your videos. I just started again to shoot film and develop. So your channel is indeed very inspiring!
Thanks
Well equipped darkroom. I am about to rebuild mine. I would be interested in your ventilation construction. My former setup was inadequate.
I have a high volume exhaust fan I bought from McMaster Carr. I looked up the CFM specs and found one that would change the air in the room every 5 minutes. I have a passive air vent to let fresh air be pulled in.
@@TheNakedPhotographer Thanks!
Nice darkroom tour . Love your space
Thank you!
I was wondering what the paper cutter you have is called. I can’t find anything on the internet about it, but I also don’t know the name.
Seriously, you should have FAR more views. Great information, and so well presented. I hope one day when I get to doing more youtube I'll be as collected hah!
Thanks!
Nice. I'm in the process of planning and you show items and features that I haven't thought about. I have inside dimensions of 11x15 ft in a building with power and water.
Thanks for the tour. I'm designing a darkroom currently and you gave some really great ideas. What about extraction though? How do you vent and what brand extraction fan do you use? Do you have an inlet too? And do you use light tight louvers or anything? Sorry for the series of questions. I just absolutely want to get the ventilation right.
Intake air comes from a vent in the room from the hvac system of the house. I have a filter over the vent to reduce dust coming in. To remove air I have a vent over the sink backsplash that is connected by a duct to a squirrel cage type fan mounted to the outside of the house. There is a Kodak document out there that tells you how to calculate the cfm needed for your darkroom size.
@@TheNakedPhotographer Thanks! I'll look for that doc.
very inspiring Video.
I worked in an PhotoLab in the 80th in Hamburg Germany and had to switch digital at the 90th. After 30years without smelly fingers i am keen on doing an analogue revival.
Unfortunately all my loved Baryta Papers like Agfa Record Rapid and Polywarmtone do not exist anymore. And unfortunately all the repro sheetfilm for doing light or shadowmasking or real unsharpmasking do not exist anymore either.
So we have to live with the rest of what the photo industrie supplies…
But i have to build a darkroom extension to my house i think. The bathroom is too small…
Keep on printing ;-)
Can you tell us more about your sink? Rosy products? Custom made? Url? Thanks!
Rosy products. He shut his business down since I got this. I believe it was one of the last he built. The backsplash was made locally. It’s just a single sheet with a 90 degree bend at the top.
@@TheNakedPhotographer - Was he a custom fabricator?
Yes, just a one man company, he made them in his barn.
@@TheNakedPhotographer - Ok, thanks.
Great stuff Greg. You da man.
Thanks, Joseph! Looks like you are enjoying Colorado quite a bit.
Hi, your videos are great and really helpful. Can you tell me what day light- balanced print inspection light you use? Or if there's any brand you recommend? Thanks a lot!
The fluorescent inspection light is by Graphiclite, the halogen light is from Solux
Wonderful sink! I'm in the market for one but hard to locate anything that's locally available (e.g. eBay) as shipping would be cost prohibited. Would you recommend an industrial kitchen sink that are perhaps sold at used kitchen supply stores?
Those tend to be very deep. If getting a steel one is out of the question, make one of plywood and coat it with resin to waterproof it.
@@TheNakedPhotographer thanks!
I'm building a darkroom in my home now. I'm just about finished finishing the room and about ready to get to the good stuff. The room is similar to your dimensions, 8.5'x14'. Given you've been in yours a while now, is there anything you would change? Also, if you had the little extra room I have would you do anything different other than maybe a deeper dry side? Thank you I love the videos and Merry Christmas.
Yes, a deeper dry side. If my enlarger was a benchtop model, I would have it on the dry side wall with more cabinet space underneath. If I didn’t have and use a Jobo processor I would have made the sink the full length of the room instead of 7 feet.
What a wonderfull darkroom Please let me know more about the roll film holder do you use paper in roll??? Best regards from ARGENTINA
Rollma brand, made in Italy
How long were you a pro-printer? Are you still working in the Darkroom business today?
Wow, great space! Where did you store the intro? It seems to be missing. Also, you didn’t show where you store your glue guns.
You’ll have to wait for the studio tour for glue gun storage details. As for the intro, it got lost in your creepy garage attic space.
please i have the same question of Andrew could you tel me or send me some design for a break light tu put over the air extracror? best regards from Argentina
Where can I find the same enlarger as yours for sale?
I bought mine on eBay, but they are still being made in China instead of Britain now
excellent drool causing tour! But I do miss the intro………
Hey, can you suggest some bathroom beginner enlarger for 120/35 film?
If you are in the E.U., a Durst 606 or DeVere 203 are great. For the US, an Omega C760 or Beseler 67.
roll paper holder trimmer, Who use to build them?
Mine is from an Italian company called Rollma
Fantastic Channel! Thanks for sharing your darkroom and printing experience with us! Do you have an Instagram Account? Where else can I find you?
Better than a bathroom and a tub and dragging your stuff in and and out of the bathroom every time.
Did he say he bought the Devere 8x10 enlarger for $300. Holy cow!!!
I got it off eBay back when prices hit rock bottom. They have bounced back since then. That was 2009.
