    Hey Tash! Non knitters never seem to believe me when I tell them how much math is involved in knitting!!! I also would love to learn more if/when you can do some tutorials on that. I never hit gauge and I am always fiddling with modifications all the time, also because of fit. Fit is my biggest pet peeve, I really really want things to fit well, and 99,9% of what I knit are gifts for different people with different patterns with different yarns so I am constantly fiddling and calculating and frogging!😅 I love your no frills! I am also someone who does not like too much going on in the yarn, but I actually think it's really nice. Also the rock it tee is lovely, and maybe the strips bring out the variagation even more! that is another pattern on my impossible wish list! The Armour has such a stylish interesting shape and fits you so well! 🌷

      Thank you so much Tania. There are a few steps to it so I was a bit unsure if people would be up for it. But I could always explain the 2 formulas and then once you have them, after that, it is just substitution and plugging into the calculator. That would be quite lovely for me to be able to bring these two things together. :)

    Your Armor sweater is coming along so nicely.
    As for the speckled No Frills, I think it suits you well, much more than if you had used the speckled yarn by itself.
    Have you thought of wearing it with a plain cream or pink Sophie Scarf to create a break between your skin and the speckles?
    I’d love to learn more about the mathematical sequence - you’re so clever to figure out how much yarn you need for the decreases rather than making a wild guess.

    Good idea to use the row counter for your Sophie Scarf. I’ve made the shawl and used lightbulb stitch markers. Put one into the B stitch of the KfB increase so I could count the rows easier. It’s hard to see the increase in a fluffier yarn.

    Hi Tash, I love it when a notification comes up to say you have a new episode. I love your channel and am always inspired with your knitting. I’m copying you with the Stockholm slipover and also using scree colour. I’ve also sent for the Patina yarn from the wool factory and you even get a free pattern booklet matching the yarn. Your mams Sophie scarf looks so pretty. I live in the north east of England and usually order my yarn from wool warehouse so thank you for letting us know about the wool factory. I retired from nursing a few year ago so have a lot more free time than you seem to have but you manage to fit in so much. Thank you again. I also wondered if you have a Kofi account?

I try to squeeze in knitting wherever i can which is probably why i like garter and stockinette in the round so much as I can do other things while knitting as i dont have to pay close attention. I do have a Kofi account. Thank you for asking. I think the link is at the bottom of the description in each episode. I hope nobody ever feels obliged to donate. It is just there in case someone wants to. xx

    Hi Tash, that was fab! Your colours are just making my knitting heart swoon as usual. I’ve been going through a reassessing stage where I have given away lots of knits and the yarn that I adore I have been unraveling. And yes that includes mohair! I usually go through my wardrobe two or three times a year and have a giveaway, donate and the hardest one is the I don’t know pile that sits there looking at me. Think I’m finally ready to give away all my really high shoes, I haven’t worn them in years so who am I kidding! I’m such a lazy comfort girl these days 🤭😂
    Your Cami straps I would say when you knit them wash
    them and stretch the living daylights out of them. Hanging helps but you may as well get to the end quickly 💪🏻😬
    I just realised I’ve missed your last few episodes, time goes by so quickly and I too haven’t been on social media very much. I do love your test and it looks absolutely stunning, and again the colour chefs 😚

    If you're short on yarn, you could always change color on the area of the hat that will be under the turned up edge with a compatible yarn, then switch back to your project yarn a few rows later..

    • @mostlyknitting
      @mostlyknitting  6 месяцев назад

      Thanks Jillian. That is definitely true. Because of the fold and then the short row turn, i wasnt entirely sure at the beginning just which part of the hat was actually going to be on the inside!! I have it figured out now but for a little while, I was second-guessing myself. :)

    Tash, this is Carmen from the KandJPKKAL. I have to laugh, because I have a project that is virtually identical to your Friend from the Vault sweater(s). It was my first (& only!) project in speckled yarn, in a colorway called Blueberry Ice Cream, which I bought online and had more pink in it than I had expected. I used the Rock-It Tee pattern (without mohair striping), and I stopped in my tracks about 2/3 of the way through. I think that it looks fine, but it just does not fit my style (and I am also fair like you). It has been sitting in a bag for 2 yrs, and every now and then I mull it over. I thought of ripping it out and starting again with a solid mohair, but I don't think that mohair alone would tone it down enough. So, now I am contemplating holding it with another solid yarn (alpaca?) as well as a solid mohair lace to make up a heavier-gauge Terrazzo-type winter sweater. I've also thought of over-dyeing it, but I don't have any experience with wool dyes.

    • @mostlyknitting
      @mostlyknitting  6 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you for sharing Carmen. It's funny isnt it - so pretty in the skein but just a bit much going on as a garment. I like your idea of heavily toning it down. It might add just enough interest without being over the top. Good luck! And thanks for coming over and watching. :)

    I've been watching for a few months, and I so look forward to your updates. I'm not a huge tv watcher, so I usually catch up on RUclips while I'm knitting, and I'm slowly working my way through your backlog!
    Somewhat off topic, I know you're located in Sydney, and I'll be there in early March. Wondering if you can recommend any local yarn shops? Specifically, I'll be staying in Manly, but I'll be going into Sydney plenty. I'm on the hunt for yarns I can't get in the US, and I'd really love to get my hands on some Possum yarn. I believe that's more of an NZ thing, but I'm guessing it makes its way to some shops in AU as well. If you have a video with shop recommendations already, please point me in the right direction. Thanks!

      Hi there. I hope you enjoy your time in Sydney. Skein Sisters in Dulwich Hill is a lovely yarn shop (I teach classes there once a month) but i dont think they have any possum yarn. You are right, that is more a NZ thing. I dont really know that many other yarn stores except Morris and Sons in the city. I am sure there are more. Perhaps others could comment? Have a great trip and I hope you find some beautiful yarn. :)

    Do you think I'd need to use the mohair with the opal fingering yarn to make the No Frills Sweater. Yarn is expensive enough without a lot of Patterns calling for holding two yarns at the same time. I enjoy your podcasts very much.

    • @mostlyknitting
      @mostlyknitting  21 день назад

      Thank you so much Anne. If you want the fuzzy look of the sweater, you would need to hold a yarn with a halo alongside the Opal Fingering. You also may need another yarn to get gauge with a fabric that you like that isnt too open. It definitely adds to the cost, unfortunately...

    Hi Tash. Just wondering if you shorten raglan part how do you adjust decreases on sleeves as I suspect I need to do. Such a lovely podcast. You are very talented

    • @mostlyknitting
      @mostlyknitting  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Sally
      When I do less raglan increases, i will have less stitches on the sleeves. In terms of decreases, i rarely follow the pattern as i need to usually not start to decrease until i am past my elbow.
      My best suggestion is to try the sweater on really often when you are doing the first sleeve and make notes. Your decreases dont need to be completely evenly spaced. IBut if you want to do that, keep in mind the final stitch count you need to get to and then use the row gauge to make sure you get them all done before you get to the wrist.
      Or you can just space them as you need them - but then you just need to make sure you take good notes so you can replicate it on the second sleeve. ;)

    Hi- I'm new here and love your work. It seems to be that many of your pieces are knit with two yarns together ( usually a mohair and something else). Is that what the patterns suggests or do you do your guage swatching with the two yarns together just because you like the look?

    • @mostlyknitting
      @mostlyknitting  6 месяцев назад

      Hi Diane. Thanks so much for watching and for taking the time to leave a nice comment. Many of the patterns i make at the moment are designed for a two yarns held together - some kind of wool blend and a silk-mohair blend. I really like the look of that fabric and you usually get a nice heathered look with the colour. But you can do it even with a pattern that doesnt require it as long as you get gauge and it sort of makes sense with the design of the sweater. :)

    I bought 1200m of a bulky yarn (alpaca and wool) 120m per 100g. Does anyone here in the comments have a suggestion for pullover pattern? Ravelry seems to lump 120m per 50 g as bulky but mine is 120m per 100!g… and super bulky is way beyond what I have!
