    If you're gonna pick someone from the progressives to talk about this issue, I wish someone from the SocDem ranks nalang like Sen Risa. Her take on the whole US-China position is a lot more balanced and grounded. Mahirap paniwalaan si Teddy Casino who comes from the duplicitous side of the political left. They were once in bed with Duterte. Always protesting at the US Embassy but somehow doesn't have the same proportionate anger towards China. Remember between these 2 superpowers, it is China that is doing terrible things to the PH

    Great points of argument from Prof. Richard Heydarian. It only shows how knowledgeable he iis n d current geopolitics of d region. I would side more with Prof. Richard than entertain d ideas of Teddy Casino who aside from being fixated on anti-US Ideology is someone in d past had supported 'Trapos' to gain political advances. I'm more for d likes of Sen. Rissa as progressives not Teddy C.

      I have the same sentiments. Teddy and his group Makabayan actively protest at the US Embassy but have a lukewarm attitude towards China who is actually overstepping on PH shores.

    🇵🇭👉 I agree with BBM on this one. *The EDCA and our MDA with the US are the MAIN thing that is giving China a second thought of not escalating their bullish actions in the West Philippine Sea.* With regards to this situation, (Attention: *Ted Casino* )the Philippines is the only one talking peace. *We are the most bullied nation compared to Vietnam and Indonesia when it comes to this problem. Vietnam and Indonesia are definitely doing something better than us.* 👈🇵🇭

      @@npaulp It's not personal. It's a fact. EDCA has nothing to do with the arms race between US and China. It's about protecting the Philippine sovereignty. How can someone be neutral (as what he is saying) when there is a bully neighbor? China doesn't respect the Philippines so the only way is to have a US presence for leverage. Talks are not in China's vocabulary.

    • @npaulp
      @npaulp Год назад +1

      @@vareseources Teddy Casino's stance doesn't strike me as neutral; rather, he's highlighting the potential pitfalls of overreliance on the US. It's a valid concern to avoid becoming a mere pawn in the tussle between two superpowers. Recognizing that powerful countries have their own agenda, it's wise to explore alliances beyond the US. After all, diversifying our strategic partnerships could lead to a more well-rounded approach to safeguarding our interests. While the US has the most powerful military, it is essential to remember that the global stage has more players than just one.

      @@npaulp It's normal for Casiño to criticize the US as that is his ideology for decades, but never offered any solution when it comes to China. All Casiño want is to drive the US away.

    Nice discussion between Teddy and Richard. The recent incident on China's decision to employ water cannons against Philippine ships raises concerns and questions about the the evolving dynamics of EDCA as well. The Philippines must now consider how its association with the United States under EDCA affects its standing in the South China Sea dispute. While the agreement is intended to bolster Philippine defense capabilities, it also comes with the risk of antagonizing China and potentially escalating tensions in the region. The nation must continue to uphold its interests while seeking peaceful avenues for resolution.
