Before giving up the nine dash line claim, china will always be a big threat to Philippine, on the contrary, Philippine never worried the territory dispute with US, in this situation, I don’t know what China can offer to make Philippine feel safe and believe China is a reliable partner. Now Philippine is trying to play a neutral role between US and China to make the best benefit for itself, but obviously Philippine knows who is more reliable and less harmful.

Some context here; just a few months ago, Xi Jin Ping and President Marcos met one on one in Beijing. After this meeting, Marcos announced we will start drilling and mapping of Reed Bank (for its natural gas). The following day, Xi either by accident or deliberate; humiliated Marcos by saying that the CCP only agreed to the drilling in “non disputed areas” (which is idiotic because why would we discuss those items if the area is not disputed). Also to note is that even with a “friendly” stance from the Philippines; aggressive moves such as boat ramming and laser pointing (measurement tools) had only increased.

Yes, China can do it. It just has to return the islets it stole from the Philippines, stay away from Philippine territory especially within the baseline of its west Philippine Sea territory, acknowledge the validity of the Arbitral Tribunal ruling 6 years ago, make reparations for the damage it had incurred in Philippines' marine environment in WPS, apologize and atone for the injuries and harassment it had done to Filipino fishermen. You said it right Richard. It is China who is the aggressor here. As long as I can remember, when the U.S has military bases in the Philippines, one in Subic, the other in Clark you don't see China patrolling the so-called South China Sea. You don't see them establishing bases in the Spratly Island and their Coast Guards swarming Scarborough Shoal. The two analysts beside you obviously did not do their homework. The Philippines tried to be cordial with China inspite winning the Arbitral Tribunal on the laws of the seas, but China continues to deny Filipino fishermen access to traditional fishing areas within the Philippines' exclusive economic zone. Weeks ago, China even laced a Philippine naval vessel with military grade laser on its way to resupply Philippine troops in the Spratly Island.

It's easy. Leave the islands especially those within the Philippine economic zone.
If China was not aggressive and bullying, US bases won't exist again. Now the US sees an opportunity to stay in the Philippines since both countries have a defense treaty.
The previous administration was submissive to China. The Philippines wants to resolve disputes peacefully and strengthen economic cooperation. But China remained two faces. Beijing talking about peace but slowly grabbed islands, harassed fishermen, and even threatened 150, 000. Filipino workers in Taiwan and 80k more in mainland China. These Chinese visits to the Philippines came after the china ambassador release threats in front of Filipino people rightly on Philippine soil. His arrogance causes him a negative impression of Filipinos.

The problem with the western media is they refuse to relate history. China planted flags establishing its sovereignty on the Spratley's and Paracels first in the 1920s, and then after the Japanese surrender in the 1940s.
The EEZ demarcation only came into force in 1982. Before 1982, countries were only allowed 12 miles of territorial seas. A treaty of 1982 cannot override a sovereign claim dating back to the 1920s.

During WW2, the Philippines wanted to seceded from the US so as to negotiate a peace w/ japan, but were told to fight to the land man for the US empire. 2 million filipinos died as result, and were then cut from the US when it was time to rebuild (europe instead). Filipino servicemen promised pensions for serving the US never got them, with US congress denying that resolution every year. Phillipino use of the English language is sonorous and pleasant for the ear to hear. This in stark contrast to the sometimes shrill quality of their neighbor to the north’s vocalizations. Their written use of English is equally adept and often even more perfected than publications Stateside. This, though they may acknowledge China as a near neighbor, I would commend the culture of the Philippines to a continuing harmony with America inasmuch as their heart is so much more in tune with ours. China has much to offer in our day and is a commercially powerful juggernaut, more so than we. If used benignly, their powerful can truly help the transformation of our conflicted world to one of shared prosperity and peace. But taking into account the US history with the Philippines and the trust and goodwill engendered over many years, I would hope our relationship remains unstrained. Salamat.

If China wins and the Philippines will split into two, China will have a hard time governing the islands because of resistance/guerilla warfare just like in world war 2 with Japan. On the other hand if US/Philippines win, we will get back our islands, reefs, shoals illegally occupied by China. People of China will revolt against the CCP and that's the end of the CCP. China and Taiwan will be united as a democratic country. No more liar communist country.

I don't think you know the PH-American war where millions of Filipinos was killed, abused and exploited by Americans. These are just only a couple of examples of the gazillions atrocities the US committed to the Philippines and it's people. Oh and the greatest evil the US pulled is you right now. They made the people they colonized think that they're saving them, that they are a friend ready to fight with them. You can see they are successful with that propaganda with you alone. Take for instance this example, China managed to end the Yemen war, stabilize the Middle East mediating between Saudi Arabia and Iran successfully, and practically immediately "someone behind the scenes" started a new war in Sudan...

The last time the Philippines did the balancing act and supported the U.S. in their base was the "Gulf of Token incident" and later the Vietnam War started!!!! History cannot be repeated and this time the war will be on Philippine soil! Keep your balancing act on your own regions!

Phillipines need to evolve away from the need to have a bigger brother in the world and become it's victor of international relations by itself for itself. true confidence is not from the barrel of a gun but how bright you can shine as light is bright and makes you blink lol
