- Noisey is proud to present the new video for classic Mogwai track "Helicon 1".
Here's a word from the director:
"The film you see is made from 100% 35mm stills which I shot off the screen: I used about 100+ rolls which were all individually scanned. All effects you see in the film are physical workings of the negatives (scanner compositing, scratching, liquids etc.).
Given the logistics of shooting everything discreetly and also in the sea, the original footage was all shot on an iPhone and a go-pro, with some addition animation using 35mm.” - Craig Murray

Was driving home from work and heard this song on the radio 1998. I parked my car in my yard because in wasn't over and just sat listening. It was such an incredible, intense experience that I have total recall on that moment in time. I will always see the car dash the yard around me. A place where I grew up that is crystallized by the song's movements and my joy and wonder of the notes and crescendos. I know when I closed my eyes. I can feel my breath. I can go there any and every time I hear this song. One of the greatest musical and spiritual experiences of my life. Thank you Mogwai.
@NICU Thanks for appreciating it. It still holds true.
Beautiful memory 🤩
Wow, that was precisely how I felt the first time I heard this music.. when seeing the movie,“Beautiful Boy.” I paused and rewinded it about three times before getting through end of the movie track. I loved hearing that you had a similar experience.
Thanks for sharing your experience, I love to hear everyone's story about this tune, mine was listening on R6 Music, a life changing moment. Every time I hear this tune live I'm in floods of tears
I feel life when I hear this song. I feel everything. I feel the ups & the downs, I feel the good & the bad, I feel the happy & the sad. I feel it all.
perfectly said. this song sets the feelies going for sure. falling in love and then being crushed within 6 minutes.
I have a broken heart. It’s not been 2 weeks yet since the dream ended. All I can do is listen to Mogwai and cry. So broken.
@@TarzansMom hope you’re okay man

This song changed my life back when I heard it... almost 10 years ago for me. One of the best things I ever heard.
BlueWestlo Agreed. I heard this song on the radio in the Spring of 1998. Called the station immediately to find out what the name of the band was almost in a panic afraid that I might not get their name and never again hear such placid, profound beauty.
how did it change ur life
More than 20 years ago in my case!
It changed mine too, really did. It's pure beauty, the essence of music
Same here
They're celebrating 20 years as a band in a big way.
Noisey ♥
+Noisey Now i feel old I can't believe its been 20 years since i first heard the Summer video.
I dont know why but this song always invokes a strong emotional reaction from me. Absolutely wonderful.
Just a powerful song, brother!
That's why we have the words emotive music. This music wakes up parts of my brain that nothing could come close to touching.
We all understand that
Still stops me in my tracks every time I hear it. Beautiful, timeless melancholy.
Them and EITS are big inspirations to our music. They do some powerful stuff.
Beautiful boy, beautiful song
I want this to be played at my funeral. It's such an emotionally driven track. I'm an artist and after my grandmother died I've painted several times while having this playing in the background for inspiration. This track is bliss
Hits me every time! Its like a train. Adore this piece of music.
First time I'm ever hearing this song is today. What a time to hear something like this. The emotional rollarcoaster I've been in the past couple of days, and then stumbling upon this is an indescribable feeling. I can't put into words what has been going on with me, but this song defines it all perfectly. This is hitting my soul right now and I truly believe that I was meant to discover this at exactly when I did 10 minutes ago.
I heard this song in London in their gig at the garage, London in April 1997. Few moments in my life retain that emotional force so many years later.
I had made the trip from Scotland to see them live and meet my friends from France who couldn't make it in time. They told me afterwards that I had changed, and I believe I did. Thank you for that. Love from Paris.
Wow... this is so melancholic! love it.
Heard this song for the first time today... Yet it feels like the song's been with me for a long time
Beautiful boy
Incomparable. Simply amazing. Whatever music is for, this does it.
I actually cried. Beautiful.
WeButterTheBread WithNicolasCage 2:55, is it? Me too
Lou reed metallica
Me too man, I first heard this song live and I was in tears.
A homesick Glaswegian in the pub showed me this the other day when I asked him to recommend a great band from his home town. Cheers man, I love it.
such a powerful emotional song, it gets me everytime.
Mogwai is known for these amazing songs of both beauty and brutality. Not just this one but songs like “I love you, I’m going to blow up your school,” “ You’re Lionel Ritchie,” “We’re no here,” etc. I discovered this band around 94-95, and it took me quite some time to warm to them, but when I finally did, I had no regrets. Boy, they put on an amazing live show also.
beautiful song, beautiful movie, beautiful boy...
I can feel it
I love the 90s our music showed the complexities of our emotions..all the ups and downs the melancholic and the euphoric..music now is hardly that. Some is good but rare.
Beautiful Boy 😭👍
One of Mogwai’s best
Have seen Mogwai near ten times. Hope to see them many more times. My favorite band since I first saw them 20 years ago.
I'm glad I exist to experience this audiovisual experience today.
This track dosen`t need any words or explanations. It just makes you take a look at your life
Just hearing this song in beautiful boy brought me here. Downloading it asap.
Wow... really awesome video. Props to the director and team for making this really cool piece for this great classic song. Well done good Noisey.
This song changed my life and for that i thank you for such a powerful song no words needed 😍
So cool that one of my favorite bands made a video in Okinawa, one of my favorite places!
The feelings this song gave to me are amazing!
Such a great way Craig Murray found to celebrate their second decennia. Cutting so many small pieces and putting them together is quite simbolic when put next to such a deep layers work as that of Mogwai. Helicon 1 is very well put in image. Beautiful.
I haven't heard this in....15 years? Mogwai was one of the foundational bands for me along with Luna, Hum, Smashing Pumpkins, and The Mermen.
Time to open up the vault.
Chi ti vuole bene davvero rimane.
Come stai?
Im glad i bumped into this band, this song. I read as many comments as i could and there is a band similar to this that i started off with. Explosions in the Sky. This band.. OMG! Similar type but it is beautiful! A Slow Dance is my favorite personally but they have a ton of good ones!!!! I Hope whoever is reading this gets the same vibes and enjoys the beauty of it. Vibe on:)
my dad has been into mogwai for a long time and has seen them twice and now i love them too. yesterday i watched beautiful boy for the first time because i love timothee as an actor in anything really, and oh my gosh. i am crying so hard listening to it again the whole soundtrack for the movie is amazing and this song is just a huge bonus
Perfect take off song for a plane. Trust me. Here's what ya do. Get yourself a nice window seat, wait for the plane to start taxiing to take off position. Whack on your sweet sweet Mogwai tunes. Helicon 1 is perfect, but other Mogwai songs may be used, they just need the awesome Mogwai drop. Kids Will be Skeletons and Ether also good choices.
Anyway you've whacked on your Mogwai, this is all about timing the song starts building as you're taxiing. Then the plane lines itself up, lovely, then BAM the engines fire up to full speed ahead. You zoom down the runway and take off. Now you want your classic Mogwai drop, either as the speed engulfs the full plane and it starts zooming down that runway, or as it lifts off from the grounds and zooms into the sky. Get the timings right and you'll have a nice flight.
( Please note I do not endorse causing climate change in order to have the brilliant Mogwai flight experience, I just endorse Mogwai if you are already in said situation).
I thought electronics had to be turned off during take off and landing? I've never been on a plane so I don't know. Just what I see on TV
@@aaronmazur8056 Only in the 90's. So long as you're in flight mode, it's all go now. You don't even get told off for having headphones on during the safety brief....at least not in Europe.
Gorgeous!
I'm totally in love!
That was perfect, reminds me of my time in Seattle
One of the greatest things I’ve ever seen
This made me happy .. What a track .. 😊
First time I've heard this or seen the video. I'm simply stunned.
Mogwai....best band on Earth.
Welcome to Japan 🇯🇵
Congratulations, this is so astonishing!
i really like the video shooting , it is so vivid and inspiring
The feels - 🌪🌪
Best song I've heard in a long time.
I cried when I heard this song on Spotify and just said goodbye to the loved one. What makes me goosebumps now is that... the place I said goodbye to is Japan where also my loved one lives in. Incredibly beautiful this song!
この曲を聞くと喜びと悲しみ、いい記憶と悪い記憶、出会いと別れなど大切な感情を思い出させてくれます。
モグワイありがとう
Wow what an awesome work on this music video for such an amazing band!
Max STOHR I love it too, check out the director, Craig Murray x

Mogwai.
Thank you.
this song makes me feel like i have a purpose after watching beautiful boy
A perfect song 🎵 ❤
If you question yourself why music exists, the answer is this song.
Government Commissions still takes first prize for "Helicon 1" recordings IMO.
argh waves of fucking goosebumps pure goosebumps oh god
awesome graphics
Amazing vid
can't hit the love button enough❤️
beauty
Saudade
Merci Mogwai
Cool
the perfect song
Yep.....
This song makes me fell like dreams can become realities
I just recently discovered Mogwai, and this particular piece reminds me of some of the stuff M83 does. I really enjoy it, what LP would you suggest to get since there are already 8 released by them?
EpeeNoire I'd start from the beginning, Young Team and CODY. it's hard picking a single album out as they really are so consistent.
okay, thank you
Ik right
Young Team is still one of my favs. Love the tracks “Tracey” and “Summer” of course 😁
💙
why there are people dislike this? like why?
Link Link they're idiots fuck them!!!
Ummm... Wow!!!
Just can t find the words for either the song or the clip.
And damn what beautiful hands at 4:12...
magic 🤍
Amazing vid, i just wish the version of the song was the one they used for Burning.
Beautiful Boy
My astonishment at hearing this in a trailer for a Steve Carell movie brought me here.
Post Rock at it's finest! Like Post Metal is blowing up right now!
I feel like I’m dying. I wish I could be here to enjoy my time and time with people before it’s gone. I feel so gone from life, lost tether to me. no identity. just hollow and dissociative. can’t even muster energy to make connections or love. what am I doing here why am I here. barely. fading away. wish I didn’t have to fade
Mmmmmm I still have my Mogwai shirt from 20 yrs ago. 😀
💛🌃
My favorite part is 3:50 when the baby gets turned at a 135 degree angle
suggested to me during one icq chat back in early 2000 by a welsh friend called dai
OF MOVIE MY BEAUTYFULL BOY ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
while watching 'Beautiful boy' I kept thinking how weird it is that the music has a 'Life is strange' vibe... I now know why.
👍
This reminds me of the journey to Tokyo when I was a teen.
🇧🇷
Can someone suggest more music of this kind? Immersive and with profound instruments?
