One of the last things I am is an artist. Recently my GF downloaded Procreate on her iPad. She started watching a bunch of tutorials and it looked really cool. I have an Android tablet so I couldn't really 'follow along' with her. Found this tutorial and man was I impressed with what I did. Keep the tutorials coming, Joel!!

Thanks Joel for all your IP tutorials! It really helps me to learn the app itself. However, throughout this tutorial, I have been having issues with the fill tool. Mostly, either it doesn't fill all the way to the edge even though I did the slider adjustment thing. And sometimes, when I fill, it just fills the entire artwork which I think correlates to the gaps caused by the fill tool not covering the entire area. Regardless, I found other ways to finish this tutorial (mostly just colouring it in but it gets annoying after I realised how fast you do it as oppose to colouring in the gaps) and am looking forward to your other tutorials! I just hope I can look past these little bugs as I do really like the app but sometimes it feels buggy and also quite hard to learn as everything is hidden.

Same as mine. I followed his instructions to the T, almost gave up. I created a new project just to play with gradient and it worked went back to my original project, added the layer for gradient and it worked, hope it helps.

Yes, I learned last night that I can’t tap the middle of the lighthouse, I had to tap off to the side and then move the gradient to the middle. Super weird lol I kept trying EXACTLY what you were doing (4 days in a row) until I just accidentally tapped off to the side and it worked! I couldn’t get the “windows” to fill in with the gradient either so I just used the fill tool and match the color to the middle of the gradient. Thank you so much.
I'm having exactly the same issue and trying to get round it in the same way! My layers are definitely in the right order and I'm trying to add the gradient fill into that separate, bottom lawyer.

When I get to layer number 4 and use the radiant option, I can only see the changes in the layer preview and not in the central image. Also, the modification is on the color of the lighthouse and not on the background. Why is that? How can I modify it?
Hi there, I am having the toughest time using the fill tool. Everytime I tap to fill, nothing happens... i adjusted the tolerance, and still nothing happens.
A hint regarding the star sky -- it's possible to use any brush to draw shapes, so I selected circle and that splatter brush, and it gave me an interactive splatter which I could move and reshape to my liking, while being still sparse
I've been using IbisPaintX and just downloaded and brought full version of infinite painter...I'm excited to use this mainly because of larger canvas Ibis is great but limits it and gets very laggy

Hey there, if you open a canvas, go to the top right three dots and then settings. scroll down to brush settings and make sure Shape Detection is on :) hopefully that solves it for you
Your tutorial was awesome and very instructive. I don't want to come across as rude here at all, but I think it'd be helpful if you added somewhere in the description perhaps that you were using pro and not the free access version. (I personally did not realize until you got past 3 layers 😅) I ended up following through with the tutorial anyway, just did a lot more manually rather than use tools. It didn't come out quite as nice as yours, but I'm still amazed how easy it was and how cute it ended up being. The app tested my patience a bit, but it was fun nonetheless.
Been using infinite painter with my android tablet before I bought an ipad. and then when I finally was able to buy and ipad and use Procreate, I bought it again. The only thing that’s missing in Infinite Painter is the snapping tool, other than that it could really rival Procreate.
This is a great tutorial. I could only get half way through it because I can't figure out how to turn the fill off between shapes and then it fills everything. I did try the check mark after I'm finished and it seems fine but as soon as I hit fill for the next shape, it just fills the whole pallet. Any tips? I googled the issue but didn't see anybody else having that problem so I know it's user error.

Now I'm stuck and even when I open a new canvas, I'm having the same issues. I have to try and figure out how to reset everything. At this point I'm just going to try and read the 572 page manual I guess.
Whenever I create a blank canvas it has a grey lined background instead of white paper. Any tips on how to change that as I can't draw on it at all. Thank you
Pen pressure just straight up doesn't work for me. I've tried messing around with the settings in Dynamics, but literally nothing changes. It's almost as if it's just not turned on, but as far as I can tell there's no feature to toggle pen pressure on/off. Please help 😥
Hi Joel. There is always one and that seems to be me. I am doing the Lighthouse and copying exactly what you do and when I draw the line across for the land, going off the page both sides I hit a problem. When I fill the ground which is on a separate layer it only fils the part that is in the circle not the rest like on yours. There is also a 1 pixel line where the circle meets the land. I have tried again and again with someone else watching me and it’s the same every time. Any ideas.
Update - Joel replied to me quickly with a remedy to my problem. When using the fill tool, the little menu that opens top centre there is an icon 2nd from the right. I had it showing 2 highlighted layers instead of one. I just needed to press on it once to change it. and everything worked. Thanks Joel.
Been watching your vids learn after getting a new tablet for my birthday, been following along but when i get to the radial gradient fill it doesn't work on thag layer, i don't suppose you have any idea why that may be
So far, this is the 2nd tutorial I've followed and I'm having a blast :) I got a Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra for my Birthday and I'd been wanting a drawing tablet for a while now, and I'm slowly getting the hang of it. My only issues right now with Infinite Painter, is that I have to hide a lot of the layers in order for things to work. For example,, when I selected the background (bottom layer) to make the background, rather than filling the entire layer, it would fill the background, but leave the outline of the lighthouse and rocky foreground blank, which sometimes causes an issue of I want to move the background a little bit to get it more centred and such. Do you know if there's away for it to automatically fill the layer I have selected, and NOT have the upper layers outlined against that background bottom layer?

@@joeldesigns Oh wait, I think I figured it out. On the top bar of the Gradient fill and Fill, there's an icon that has the layer squares with a teardrop shape over it. I toggled that, and it seems to be behaving the way it is in your videos now :) Sorry about that, I'm still learning, LOL!
The symmetry tool is wonky to me. Lets say i draw a circle for a head in center (long press at end to make it a shape). I then turn symmetry on so i can draw the face in the head, and it will create a double circle out of my head, instead of just doing symmetry from then on. I drew a whole head and face on the left and turned it on, and it didn't do it that time. I then tried drawing just a face on blank canvas with it on, and it copied a circle (eye) fine, and copied the left half of the mouth to make a full mouth. Then when i turned it off, it delete one of the eyes (but left mouth intact). I thought maybe it was like a filter on a layer kinda thing, but that didn't seem to matter. Id like to be able to confidently switch between symmetry and asymmetry as I draw but I'm not getting it.
i believe what you need to do is complete the symmetry tool when your done with it, so activate the tool, the hit the tick to confirm its done with, rather than toggle it on or off.
It won't work, when I set the width and length to 2000 it comes up with a black and white grid which I can't draw on, and another plain box over it? I can't draw on them
The radial gradient doesn't work on mine. Repeated from step 1 until that step 4x already. I thought I missed some step, but same result. :(. I am using Samsung Tab S9 FE plus.
Thank you for this tutorial! The first digital painting tut I ever followed! - The only problem is that when I use the fill tool, it doesn't fill the empty area correctly, and leaves specks of color close to the edges, even though I tap and drag with my pen on the right (multiple times). Any idea what could be the issue? Any setting that needs to be adjusted? I use Infinite Painter on my Android tablet. Update: It seems that you need to increase the Tolerance of the Fill tool, by tapping on the cogwheel on the left and adjust it. A comment from another video (ruclips.net/video/etTZal-b7f4/видео.html&lc=Ugy0qoOOQnVmjeDDk454AaABAg) helped to be aware of that.
I'm on a Chromebook, and I tried downloading your pallete, but it didn't work. I tried it another time, still didn't work. does it not work on a Chromebook? (if you want to know what specifically I'm on, it's a Lenovo IdeaPad.)
@@mariskaosterkamp-valentijn1827 "open in" shouldnt be used. first download it to your files, then use the palette import from 'files' option then find the palette where you downloaded it :)
Please consider avoiding the use of background music in your videos. This would let me listen to music i prefer for 20 minutes, while listening to and learning from your excellent tutorial.
The links updated to the palette install. In all my videos here on my second channel and on my main channel @joelcreate i use the background music, its my style and preference :) its set to very low though so you can lower my video down till its just my speaking :)

When you use the gradient tool. The squares to the left of the tick can be toggled. This is usually the issue

Are you sure the layers are stacked in the correct order? And you’re adding it to a separate layer?

You need to change it to radial and make sure the icon to the left of the tick is pressed off

is the eraser opacity 0%? its under the brush size
@@joeldesigns 100% opacity and 0% opacity, the brushes are not working in my app 😭 the only working brushes are the Monoline and the solid pen :(

Drawing never felt so easy

Is your background set to transparent? Try setting the colour

That’s correct you don’t turn it on or off. It’s determined by your equipment. What equipment do you use?

The symmetry tool is wonky to me. Lets say i draw a circle for a head in center (long press at end to make it a shape). I then turn symmetry on so i can draw the face in the head, and it will create a double circle out of my head, instead of just doing symmetry from then on. I drew a whole head and face on the left and turned it on, and it didn't do it that time. I then tried drawing just a face on blank canvas with it on, and it copied a circle (eye) fine, and copied the left half of the mouth to make a full mouth. Then when i turned it off, it delete one of the eyes (but left mouth intact). I thought maybe it was like a filter on a layer kinda thing, but that didn't seem to matter. Id like to be able to confidently switch between symmetry and asymmetry as I draw but I'm not getting it.
i believe what you need to do is complete the symmetry tool when your done with it, so activate the tool, the hit the tick to confirm its done with, rather than toggle it on or off.

It won't work, when I set the width and length to 2000 it comes up with a black and white grid which I can't draw on, and another plain box over it? I can't draw on them

The radial gradient doesn't work on mine. Repeated from step 1 until that step 4x already. I thought I missed some step, but same result. :(. I am using Samsung Tab S9 FE plus.
Usually the issue is when you open the gradient tool, on the top menu, to the left of the tick, tap that icon
Thank you for this tutorial! The first digital painting tut I ever followed! - The only problem is that when I use the fill tool, it doesn't fill the empty area correctly, and leaves specks of color close to the edges, even though I tap and drag with my pen on the right (multiple times). Any idea what could be the issue? Any setting that needs to be adjusted? I use Infinite Painter on my Android tablet.
Update: It seems that you need to increase the Tolerance of the Fill tool, by tapping on the cogwheel on the left and adjust it. A comment from another video (ruclips.net/video/etTZal-b7f4/видео.html&lc=Ugy0qoOOQnVmjeDDk454AaABAg) helped to be aware of that.
I'm on a Chromebook, and I tried downloading your pallete, but it didn't work. I tried it another time, still didn't work. does it not work on a Chromebook? (if you want to know what specifically I'm on, it's a Lenovo IdeaPad.)

@@mariskaosterkamp-valentijn1827 "open in" shouldnt be used. first download it to your files, then use the palette import from 'files' option then find the palette where you downloaded it :)

Hello. :-) The video to add pallet is set to private / not published online openly.
Please consider avoiding the use of background music in your videos. This would let me listen to music i prefer for 20 minutes, while listening to and learning from your excellent tutorial.
The links updated to the palette install. In all my videos here on my second channel and on my main channel @joelcreate i use the background music, its my style and preference :) its set to very low though so you can lower my video down till its just my speaking :)

Please check the icons at the top match up to yours on screen when using the tool. Otherwise they have great support in the forum
