Would love a guide on skinny ties versus “regular” sized ties. Is one less formal than the other? Should people with a certain face shape, height, or build avoid skinny / slim ties?
If you wear a tie less than 8 cm or 3 1/8" wide, you will look like a peasant. Skinny ties shouldn't exist. But, if you insist on having one, the wider your torso is, the worse it will look. As far as formality, skinny ties are informal, exclusively. Just like skinny lapels and skinny pants. A passing fad that had no place in a formal event.
Custom is your friend! My girlfriend needs to have them made to suit her bust and collarbone. If you don’t have too many events that necessitate dress shirts, three or so custom shorts will fo
Nothing other than a four-in-hand, unless the knot looks painfully small- try a double four-in-hand. BOOM. Enough with Windsor, 1/2 Windsor and anything else!
Here's 2 rules that will prevent you from looking like a peasant. 1. Don't wear button-down collars with a tie. 2. Use a half-windsor knot. There is no benefit to any other knot over the Half-Windsor. Bonus tip: tighten or loosen your knot based on the space between the points of your collar. Same knot, but tighter or looser to properly fill the gap.
From what I could se e from his jacket at the back it was so tight that it looked as if someone was pulling the front of it. The trio on Gentlemen's Gazette are most knowledgeable, especially Raphael, and give great informative detail , but neither one of them look good in classic, or fashionable clothes because of their portly or wimpy figures.
I buy classically styled bespoke collared shirts with a traditional collar spread. I hate, hate, hate the overly spread collars that have been crowding every other style out of the market on new shirts. Even though it’s been mentioned that those spread collars should be paired with the proper wider tie knots, the fact of the matter is that 90% of guys out there who wear those awful extreme spreaded collars are pairing them with narrow knots where the stems (part that goes around the neck) is showing. The style looks too trendy and extreme and anytime a single style trend gets too prevalent and crowds out all other varieties, you know it’s the stuff of looking at a photo of yourself in twenty years and asking, “What was I thinking?”
I'm shorter than the average guy and get most of my ties from thrift stores, so my options are basically to have an appropriately-sized knot but a too-long tie, or a too-large knot and an appropriately-sized tie! A real catch-22. My solution is to usually wear a vest or sweater, so I can tuck the excess length out of sight.
4 in hand is the only knot you should know imo. A small knot looks the best without a question. Prince Charles proves this point. He has the best tie knot in the world.
Im sorry I havent seen your videos in the last few weeks. This new guy is pretty good. The way he speaks is impressing. What is his name btw? The video is great as always.
I like the way Kyle breaks things down. He went through so many topics that I didn’t realise the video was almost over, yet I understood everything easily the first time. Good explanatory skills.
I think a small four-in-hand knot that really hugs your neck looks way better than anything else. Any visible tie besides the knot can be eliminated most of the time by tightening it around the neck (having the knot in the middle of the collar would help). Look at Prince Charles. For that matter I don't believe in adding the finger to your neck measurement, the last thing you want when wearing a tie is a collar that's too big.
Is it acceptable to wear normal ties and normal suits with wing collar shirts these days? Love the look of those collars from the beginning of the 20th century. Sadly, it seems to be reserved for white and black tie these days....
I personally like seeing sides of my tie. Collars used to be turned up so I don't seeing the sides really matters. Especially since I only wear loud printed ties, the more of my tie I can see the better!
I love Ft. Belvedere's silk knit ties (crie de la soie) but I wish they actually came in a tall sizing! I'm 6'4" and i have to settle for a smaller knot and a small tail on the backside every time i wear mine to make the length acceptable :/
great tips and the new presenter is pretty great, just remember to take all these things as guidelines more than rules as all of the problems can be solved by not taking yourself too seriously, confidence is the best fashion statemnt
Love the videos. There maybe a difference in language but in the UK we say "ensure the knot..." rather than "insure the knot". (2.15). I also have a thing about the difference between enquire and inquire..there is a big difference between an enquiry and an inquiry. They seem to have become almost interchangeable but in fact mean two very different things.
Did y’all make his shave his beard ? In between takes ? Lol
The beard changes with weather.
You caught us! We filmed this video on two separate days, so some beard growth was only natural. Congratulations on your eye for detail. :)

@@gentlemansgazette We love you, Preston!!
Everyone who wears ties should be required to watch this video.
1:33 Somebody please show this to Raphael so he can take some pointers on how to walk through a park and *not* look like he’s on his way to a mob hit.
ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!
Cool new presentor :)
Kyle is hardly "new" check out his previous videos. :-)
I am glad you joined the team, I can’t imagine the channel without you now xD Glad to see GG grow so fast
Good presentor, and it comes at a great timing as well
Kyle is the epitome of COOL!

Looking Sharp Kyle 👌🏼
I like wearing a wing collar with my ties and bowties.
A little Victorian, but I like it. Hercules Poirot has always pulled it off like a gentleman, which he is in Agatha Christie’s books!
Your beard is very beautiful my guy.
Where did you get your glasses? I love the way they look! Also great video, as usual, loving this channel!

Ожидайте попа-стретчинг! ;)
The beard changed lengths multiple times throughout the video❤😂
I hate wing collars, never wear them. Point, or classic collar. Half Windsor with thick ties, and full Windsor with everything else.
Thisnis exactly what I wanted...thanks Kyle
I’m a woman, and sadly I don’t have a wide choice of collars to pair with my ties. I just grab whatever I see decent in a store. 😔

Thanks Kyle for making my journey to work a lot more interesting & informative 👍
At least it’s easy to recognise those who are obliged to wear neckties and those who LOVE wearing them. It’s the tiny details!
Love the new presentor , nice show of diversity and is genuinely a very confident voice
I pretty much always wear semi spread collars with a Prince Albert knot. Works very well for me.
Nothing other than a four-in-hand, unless the knot looks painfully small- try a double four-in-hand. BOOM. Enough with Windsor, 1/2 Windsor and anything else!
Great video!! This segment makes me wonder; what do you guys think about, seeing eye glasses (width, temple length, bridge ... etc.)?
57,
Lol no. I love wearing four in hand knots with cutaways, it a bold look best for a modern take.
Michael Bell I also have a round face and wear the cutaway collar. It is the best looking collar type and is classic yet still contemporary!
Remember. Tie shall point at belt, not balls
Very intriguing. I will keep this in mind the next time I tie a tie
I really like those glasses!
Down to a science. I admire a man obsessed
Thanks for adding people of color to your videos. I really like the channel and have received excellent tips. Great job and keep up the good work.
What if I want to wear thick Windsor knots underneath spear collars? How would that look?

Is prince Albert Knott would pair well with buttoned down knot?
Really like you are giving visual examples on what to do and what not to so, great information og presentation as always ;)

Button down is a faux pas, unless for horse polo
I'm loving those glasses

Trim to length and sew over the raw edge.
Great video Kyle, great information.

THIS is the kind of reasoned, experienced advice that I didn't know I needed, but now I love it.
great topic, great video

Would probably look a bit odd, might depend on what situation you are wearing it for

I find the pratt knot fills a wonderful "anytime" size, great info guys

so what knot and collar ideal for a 19.5 - 20 neck? im 6'3
Catch me watching this at 10pm trying to decide whether to wear a tie to the office tomorrow.
Great topic!

Good video!!
I cannot be the only one who noticed his beard change
It's the details that make all the difference. Great video.
Great frames Kyle!
New background music?
That's a good look on you!
Great presenter! So relax
Excellent job on the video!
Kyle is gaining confidence with each video! Keep it coming Kyle
He was confident since day 1. He's a professional who has mastered his craft, just the others.
Enjoyed the video!
Snazzy😼💜💀🇺🇸
Buy shirts with a single collar style -- one that flatters your face. Don't buy assorted collar styles and monkey around tying different knots

@@lordmartinofleithandcuddy6541 Sounds like someone is jelly! 😏
I find this embarrassing to my species🐑💀
I wear an Eldridge knot whenever I can, but its tricky to keep it professional it only works with quiet ties

Great tips, as always. I tend to use the Eldredge knot with a basic four point collar; it's just my "thing" . . .
Another new guy? Raphael, Preston and now this?
Okay, he's there since September! 😜
The video would benefit from the gentleman talking more clearly and slowly.

This video looks interesting.
Kyle, you're opening up, the videos presented by you get better and better. Now smile more, and you're almost there.
Very condescending and petty.
