Curt Warner took over this game in the 4th quarter, as he carried Penn State down the stretch the last six games to their first national championship in 1982. What a clutch, big game back he was throughout his fabulous collegiate career-simply the best. He was an exceptional HOF running back, and is a great man of tremendous personal character.

      No Doubt!
      Warner was clutch.
The Nittany Lions have had a plethora of great college running backs, but to me Warner is still the best.
Curt combined everything you want in a tailback.
Did not matter 1st and 10, 2nd and 5, 3rd and 1, or 4th and inches Warner was always on the field. Looking back on these old games i realize Curt was one tough RB. He took a lot of shots, was the focus of the defense and seem to enjoy the contact......
and you are right....after the Alabama loss Joe put the passing game on the back burner and the Nittany Lions finished those last seven games power running the ball.
Along that stretch each week Curt was breaking long held records and my memory may be lagging but I do believe Curt graduated with 42 school records!!!! Heck i find it hard to imagine a player owning just a few schol records and Curt graduated with Forty Friggin Two school records!!!!
Two Time All-American, MVP in two Fiesta Bowls and easily could have been the MVP in the Sugar Bowl for the National Championship.....
Best of all Curt always, like most nittany lions under Joepa acted with class.

Great pro running back too. Really took a beating at Seattle which shortened his career. 2nd back taken in the draft after Dickerson. Warner is also one of my all time favorites

Not many times you see a safety where the running back is tackled that deep in the end zone - and Keith Jackson with the classic comment right after....."Well.....that'll take care of your two-point conversion!"
Penn State had just missed a two-point try.

When Penn State beat Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, Curt Warner out-gained a certain Heisman winner on the ground. That was the last college game for the Georgia RB as he secretly signed with the USFL’s New Jersey franchise and then publicly denied it.
One year later the Generals were bought out by a local real estate guy who had reneged on a deal to purchase The Generals in 1982 because he suddenly had interest in purchasing the NFL’s Baltimore Colts.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
