I can't believe that I can sing along to this song still. It must be close to 20 years since I've heard this song. It was one of my favorites when I was a kid though.
Wow, this is the song I always yell for at Al shows even though I know it will never happen. So glad to know that, at one time, it did. Great to see this!!
I was 12 years old when I saw this live. I just can't believe this is the most popular live version. Weird Al had a huge impact on my life. He made me realize how important a twisted and thoughtful sense of humor really is. The closest we can ever get to God is when we are laughing our asses off. I don't think I can ever be truly serious after listening to every song he's ever made. (except for this serious comment)
It's a really small town, but it's cute and they even had Twine Ball Days. I haven't been in YEARS! I'll have to see if my bro wants to check it out again some time.
My in-laws now live 45 minutes from the ball. I took my family to see it a few weeks ago while we were visiting. Hilarious. Signed the guest book "Al sent me." There is a Twine Ball Inn, but it appeared to just be a little restaurant and I'm not even sure it was open. There was no security to kick me out when I broke down and cried. Thankfully.
If you listen closely to the lyrics, you can surmise that Al wasn't thrown out because he broke down. He arrived at the Twine ball at "Seven thirty-seven early Wednesday evening" (3:50), and the place was only open from 10 to 8 on weekdays (4:29). The guards threw him out because the place was closing for the evening.
Bill Lyons ah, the Sacramento set was an awesome one! He did a flippin Beatles cover! I saw him in Milwaukee, also an awesome show. Twine ball, midnight star, velvet evils, nature trail to hell, definitely a bad ass show!
huh, we live 3 blocks away from it. My wife works at the bar kiddy corner from it in town. I can remember watching him add twine to it as we visited my mom's family as this is where she grew up.
I have been an Al fan since the 80's and I just went and saw him live a few days ago and he sang this. Never heard it before and I loved it. Wondering how the crap this fell below the radar....???
This song was only released on the UHF soundtrack (which didn't even go gold) but was one of the "...and other stuff" on the soundtrack, as it didn't actually appear in the movie. So, as the final track on one of his least popular CDs, it's a little less exposed than most of his other music. Which is too bad, as it's perhaps the greatest song ever written.
Not only is the song funny and clever, but watch WA...the song goes on for, like six minutes and part of the time he sings it with his eyes closed, obviously with no teleprompter or any other help. And how does he not trip over all those tongue-twisters? We are in the presence of a genius.
Uff da! Dang good. What next? A song about the Biggest Boot in Minnesota? The Spam museum? The Mall Of America? Aaahhh the Star Of The North, so many famous places, so little time. ;-)
A few things: 1. "Finally at 7: 37 early Wednesday evening..." Who does he think he is, me?? (My mom calls me "Big Ben", because, I can tell what year, date, day, and time something happened. 2. "I was just so overwhelmed by its sheer immensity, I had to pop myself a beer" Sounds like he wasn't too thrilled by it. 3. "This here's what America's all about" I totally agree. 4. We already know about his obsession with 27, and I also questioned about him being obsessed with 43. From "Tacky" 43 bumper stickers From Virus Alert" Turn off your computer and make sure it powers down Drop it in a forty-three-foot hole in the ground But I'm wondering if it has to do with the number 7. (4+3=7) And in this song, he mentions the number 27, but he also mentions 7:37.
diet chocolate soda? how does he do it? I've wanted to see the biggest ball of twine in Minnesota ever since i heard AL sing about it! he's convinced me it's worth the trip! and who wouldn't be convinced by his twine ball musical effigy! and that food is important in his music relates to my GI Joe/ food oriented mind. (lasagna, eat it, trapped in the drive thru, etc)
Does anyone else find it completely hilarious that his family took a road trip that ate up half his vacation to spend about 20 minutes looking at THE BIGGEST BALL OF TWINE IN MINNESOTA before being thrown out by security? I can't believe I never heard this song before...
totally a parady of a musical style. also, just a wonderful song! think of it... if you replaced the lyrics with "real" lyrics, you would have the perfect anti-war song, or a pro-war song, or about love, or about a break up, or anything "heavy." Weird Al is the man!
And he has seen alba alba albaqurqe??? OMG!!!!! I think i spelled it right!!! (if you guess the number of molacuels in Lenerd nimois butt I will send you tickets to albaqurqe) DISCLAMAR im not the best speller so your tickets might not reach you...
Funny part is, I have actually been there. It is everything he described it as.
I am the proud owner of a souvenir miniature ball of twine from Darwin, Minnesota.
"I was so overwhelmed by its sheer immensity, I had to pop myself a beer." sheer comic genius.
I first heard this back in 1989. In the last 2 or 3 days, I've learned it and will doing it at karaoke for the first time tonight. 😁
Lol, was just thinking about doing the same.
How it went??
This man is AMAZING. He sounds just as good live as recorded. How many artists can we all say that about?
The Disco Biscuits and Phish are the two best that I can think of
Tori Amos, Phil Collins, queensryche...
Al, rhyming "where'd ya like to go ta" with "Minnesota" is... Well, like they always say, it's the little things... Simply ingenious.
I can't believe that I can sing along to this song still. It must be close to 20 years since I've heard this song. It was one of my favorites when I was a kid though.
I was lucky to see him in 2019 summer. He sang this and it’s my favorite song of his. It’s forever my starting road trip song.
Wow, this is the song I always yell for at Al shows even though I know it will never happen. So glad to know that, at one time, it did. Great to see this!!

Weird Al's band is so good. Jim West has some of the best guitar licks in this song.
Never saw this song performed live. Thanks for posting this.
Great video. Thanks for posting this. The man is certifiable on two levels: Whacko and Genius.

I live in Minnesota... I've been to 5 of his concerts. He has yet to sing this at a concert I've been to.
XD
Jeremy K been to 2, dido. I even emailed him to do it.
Hey You 96 he’s doing it in his current tour.
Correct, he is! I just saw him do it 2 days ago in Sacramento! Awesome show.
Bill Lyons ah, the Sacramento set was an awesome one! He did a flippin Beatles cover! I saw him in Milwaukee, also an awesome show. Twine ball, midnight star, velvet evils, nature trail to hell, definitely a bad ass show!

@@djublonskopf wow dude thanks for that. I had no idea what album it was on and now I do haha thanks!
@@djublonskopf die hard Al fans though knew it well.
good lord. i love this man's music lol
NO WAY! I didn't think he ever did this live!
So inspiring. Now I want to go there
whoooooooooooo come to MN again Weird AL! I want to see you!
Not only is the song funny and clever, but watch WA...the song goes on for, like six minutes and part of the time he sings it with his eyes closed, obviously with no teleprompter or any other help. And how does he not trip over all those tongue-twisters? We are in the presence of a genius.
Weird Al is such a wonderful, creative, mirthful goofball.
very moving performance
Who are the 4 dislikes? For shame. Excellent performance.
Unfortunately 6 years later some more anti-twine ball people have come through. Maybe their parents were killed by a runaway ball of twine.
Hey weird Al, Minnesota wants to hear "goodbye to snowman"
UHF one of my fav albums!!
Beautiful!!
I was your 1k subscriber btw..
I love the Biggest Ball of Twine. It's totally worth going to.
aahhh right before his transformation!
He did it on the Bad Hair Day tour, and then again on the Poodle Hat tour!
Hah, just my luck. I didn't catch him on either of those tours but I did see him on the Running With Scissors tour.
Lovely
Uff da!
Dang good.
What next? A song about the Biggest Boot in Minnesota?
The Spam museum?
The Mall Of America?
Aaahhh the Star Of The North, so many famous places, so little time. ;-)
He does some parts of his live show when he changes clothes. There, he was quickly getting ready for another part of the show.
@arnoldwarrior15 i lived a half a block down from Jerry's bait shop LOL

From "Tacky"
43 bumper stickers
From Virus Alert"
Turn off your computer and make sure it powers down
Drop it in a forty-three-foot hole in the ground
But I'm wondering if it has to do with the number 7. (4+3=7)
And in this song, he mentions the number 27, but he also mentions 7:37.
Sounds like an adaption of "30,000 Pounds of Bananas" to me.
At the very least, it's a style parody.

HopKins 🐿️ Minnesota
ChecKing Out "The Twine"
He looks so cute in that hat.
I love this so much! I love that hat! Want!! Al looks so damn cute! I have a postcard from the Twine Ball, thank to my friend Kaffy! :)
Did he say "Westchester Mystery House?" Haha.
oh darwin...
it doesn't matter. weird al could play a broom closet and he'd get ten thousand people to see it. this man transcends venues.
Uff da!
Dang good.
I was there.
It's the Winchester Mystery House.
STEVE JAY IS SUCH A ROCKSTAR, SAME WITH THE REST OF'EM OF COURSE!
I thought about making myself a makeshift pagoda.
Hi Al i have allways loved your shows. 99 ,,i can change my 99 (I HAD NO IDEA YOU WERE 99 STRANGE) JUST LET ME KNOW ...,,,OK
Does anyone else find it completely hilarious that his family took a road trip that ate up half his vacation to spend about 20 minutes looking at THE BIGGEST BALL OF TWINE IN MINNESOTA before being thrown out by security? I can't believe I never heard this song before...
Good God!
No way I could find so many words to rhyme with Minnesota.
Ed Robertson of Barenaked Ladies rhymed orange in the song Four Seconds
"Oh flip, the light is turning orange
Coat ripped when I caught it in the door hinge"
William Martin Eminem rhymed orange in brain damage ten years prior
@nixima1 its an original i think and it was right before his transformation!
0:51 is when i really start to listen
Does anyone have this song? It's so fun!
Alfred has MAJOR talent!! I don't care what anyone says, any artist to perform a complex song such as this without a telepromter is the bomb!
guapoooo
Where did he run off to so fast at the end?
alansmisclass probably to change into an amazing costume.
@JorhugZ i know what you mean
I live in Minnesota and I don't know where Darwin is?
this song is soo fircken epic!!!!!!!!!!!!
Where did he get the twine??
anyone else out there think so?
@eicarlson92 The next song was "Jurassic Park" and Al had to change his clothes to resemble Jim Morrison.
In a way, this is a parody of ACDC s Big Balls.
@Nesquito : There is no security at the biggest ball of twine in Minnesota. Just sayin'.
And if you're not?
"the biggest ball o' twine in Minnesooota"
Nice local accent.
totally a parady of a musical style. also, just a wonderful song!

Weird Al is the man!
I.m not sure if this is a parody or an original but patrs of it sound a lot like the song The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
It's an original song, a style parody of Harry Chapin or Gordon Lightfoot.
Part of it is based off the wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald
this has a good beat dont you think?
So dorky you have to laugh..!
kinda sounds like Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
:D
Any body recognize the song this is based upon?
It's not a parody of any particular song, but it is in the style of Gordon Lightfoot. The chorus reminds me of "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald"
@@RyanSheehan64 I have also heard the same thing lol.
0 blind people missed the like button!
1:17 - Move away from the microphone just like in the song Chocolate Rain.
the best damn epic ever written
And he has seen alba alba albaqurqe??? OMG!!!!! I think i spelled it right!!! (if you guess the number of molacuels in Lenerd nimois butt I will send you tickets to albaqurqe) DISCLAMAR im not the best speller so your tickets might not reach you...
Al messed up
I feel sorry for the background musicians. Having to play parody songs day after day. Al gets rich, They look depressed.
@bravo723 It's not a definite parody of 30TPOB, more like a style parody.
