Lady of the cold. Even the groke fears her. Makes you think.
And they both are shit compared to Hattifnattars
@@yenchey3270 hahahahah yeah
I don't think Groke fears her, but rather her reputation, neither of them have never meet and thus this is the problem. Groke is very lonely and has an obsession into objects, rather than living being to have something to cherish without losing it. I believe Groke could meet lady of the Cold with great interest and maybe have a common interest at least at something, but neither would be afraid of one another once they meet. You can face the lady of the Cold by just closing your eyes or having an blindfold to counter the effect, or just look at her feet.
atleast the groke wants some friends than her being a heartless fuk
Wait a mo the groke is freezing cold so is she there is no way she can turn into ice it just does not make sense
What's creepier was the fact that just before she froze little my you could see she does a little tiny smile, goes to show she's heartless and cold literally.
I remember as a kid, that tiny animation felt like I got stabbed with an icicle.
She also glared when Little My disturbed her ice cloud.
OMG YOURE RIGHT WTF, I WAS SO FOCUSED ON HER EYES I DIDNT EVEN NOTICE
The animators knew exactly what they were doing
TOI LUMI HEPPA ON TEHTY IHAN VITUN HYVIN SE ON MINUN LEMPI HAHMO JA JÄÄROUVA MYÖS KUN HÄN JÄÄDYTTÄÄ LUMI HEPAN ELÄVÄKSI
just a sharp contrast between lady of the cold and groke: beautiful-ugly, sings like an angel-growls scarily, cold and heartless-just lonely and longs for warmth and love.
I think these two characters carried an important lesson: What is considered ugly, is simply looking for acceptance. What is considered pretty, is only looking out for itself.
@@ricleonhart Oh my god. Good point!
Groke isn't ugly! She's adorable!
The groke never hury anyone and has never tried to, the lady of the cokd murdered a squirel and Little My just cuz she felt like it
how dare u call the groke ugly >:(
This episode was nightmare fuel when I was a child
Easily one of the scariest episodes in the series
Suit up for the winter, or the cold will claim you!
Konanza the most nostalgic 💙
Even more so when you know how she actually kills someone in the source material.
I am getting chills just listening to this, 20 years later... This episode scared the living shit out of me. Seriously, this is what nightmares are made of.
lol what if i told you that she is real
When I was a kid I used to find this episode, or the Lady of the Cold, very scary but yet fascinating in an odd way. I really love that Moomin was such a huge part of my childhood. The serie itself and this song is so well made, and you can kinda hear the mystic over the whole song. Ah, I love it. And I really love how Moomin captures a kind of scandinavian vibe, especially when you've grown up in Scandinavia, it kinda feels closer to heart.
Well... sometimes less is more! XD
Im from Norway aswell 😂
I from finland and i love moomins but this episode was too creepy to me💀
@@pservices4270 i'm from finland too
Same.
The Lady of the Cold is basically a warning and a lesson to not underestimate or make light of the unforgiving and harsh winters of Scandinavia.
She embodies the heartless and cruel nature of the Dark Months up here perfectly.
The real version of the Lady of the Cold kills you if she finds you. You don't go all paralyzed cold until someone warms you up.
Every drop of blood in your body _flash freezes_ .
_You die_ .
In the endless fields of ice... where spring never comes...She roams....and every winter She returns....don't look her in the eye.
...Ok...
language? it does not sound finnish, is it finnish?
its not finnish its simply la la laa sounds without any words
that is what i was thinking
GLA-U-OO-ORY
Imagine walking, through the forest. During winter, snow up to your ankles. Then you start hearing this very feint, barely audible melody. As you keep walking it becomes a bit more clearer and you realize you're walking towards the source, as you get a bit closer it's clear enough to hear the melody. It's of course this melody, and being cold, dark in the middle of the night snowy you're definetly freaked out by it. So you turn around to walk away from it, but somehow.. Even walking the opposite direction, the melody keeps getting clearer. You turn around to walk a third direction, same result. No matter which direction you decide to walk the melody keeps getting closer and closer.. and closer. So you stop and you dare not move a muscle. But the voice is still closing in.
"In that darkness, the Lady of the cold came for the first time. She swept through cities and kingdoms, riding her dead horse, hunting with her packs of pale spiders big as hounds..."
Nice words
Where is this from?

@@vdevale2206
The meaning of this song is not meant for mortal's mind. 😄
Translating it to English made them make sense
I kid you not. This song appeared in a nightmare i had just the day after i got reminded of it....
When I was young, this lady scared me more than the groke ever could ;_; The Groke just wanted love, this lady froze people. She was the scariest thing in the world
I thought The Groke was creepy, but this thing takes the cake. Such an odd and disturbing shape, and unlike The Groke, The Lady of the Cold is legitimately evil and intends to do others harm.
the embodiment of the power of storytelling. I mean without the context, the scenes and the music she looks just weird (with the star wheels and everything), hilarious almost, but with the music and the storytelling they managed to indeed make her even more terrifying than the groke.
@@Eye_ExistThe show actually made the story much friendlier compared to the books, but even then, the music never fails to create atmosphere.
She’s the siren of the winter.
This is so beautiful. This is like something you would hear in a Zelda game or in Lord of the Rings. I just goes to show you that you don't need violent action scenes or loud noises to make a good cartoon/anime.
The fact you say lord of the rings is so perfect bc this has strong nordic influences since it was animated by japanese people but finnish people worked on it alot too and like..J.R.R.Tolkien got quite alot of inspiration for lord of the rings from finnish folk tales so to speal mostly Kalevala(if you read that and then tolkies stuff you will see similarities) even elven(elvish whichever spelling i forgot) is inspired by the finnish language
@@Josku2411 moomin is originally a finish book series right?
@@lucyandecember2843 yes
Same singer was in zelda ocarina of time epona's song
Emiko Shiratori has such a lovely voice 😍 She also sang theme song of final fantasy IX ”melodies of life”
I didn’t know! That’s fascinating
I'm starting to think Moomin had a bigger impact in my life than what I think... it's just so many things comming together, in a circle that I had never noticed...
I like japanese animation, but little did I know this was the very first anime I ever saw. My favorite episodes were those like this one... with a haunting dark adventurous atmosphere, much like the feel I get now in many RPG and MMO games.
This kind of music is also something I really love... and it's just strange, since this series was made by japanese and finnish people, and this song is SOOO "northly"... and so it happens that my favorite music band is a finnish band, Sonata Arctica.
I know it's weird for me to say it, and maybe it won't make sense to many, but suddenly I felt a connection between all these things... like the missing piece of a puzzle, it suddenly clicked.
I loved this cartoons to and actually muy favourite music banda are the ones with that "haunting dark", like Carbon Based Lifeforms (Swedish), Byosphere (Norwegian),etc... Weird..
Don't you dare call this anime! Anime is for weebs, Moomin is for normal people.
There are
many beautiful and wonderful anime, so you must be associating it with Pokemon or other kids-oriented series exclusively. This show can also be classified as anime because the animation work for it was done in Japan by a Japanese team.
@@currently_online The books and characters were created by Tove Jansson, but the show many saw with the "mamamapapapa" intro song was animated in Japan.
@@gronlud Well that's just stupid. This adaptation is an anime, as it's animated by a Japanese studio. And anime isn't just for "weebs", it's one form of art and animation that all people can enjoy
I can't describe why this show was so scary and brilliant at the same time but it was the most influencing TV series from TV Tokyo on my childhood ... and music like this hypnotized me all the time ... first time I've ever started watching japanese shows
moomins are from Finland which are writen by Tove Jansson and Tove is fin-swede.
ムーミンの中で流れていた曲は素敵なものばかりでしたが、この曲は特別好きです。
冷たい世界の美しさ、神秘さ、怖さを感じます。
Moomin characters often have those wide-open eyes, but the design of the lady of the cold is just so... bizzare. Three "Legs" which don't even look like they're they're from a living creature ending in little stars (?) that act as wheels, and then there's the fact that she's a real, actual threat, unlike the groke. There's no bargaining, just do the ritual she demands and she'll leave you alone. And then there's that song. it's not even scary, it's just haunting. And the fact that it just seems to play in the air around her is double chilling
This episode is truly about how brutal and hard the winter season is in Northern Europe is. It's dark most of the day and the cold can be extreme, particularly in the northern parts of Scandinavia and Finland, and it's not for the faint hearted. You need to respect the weather or else it can be dangerous. But after a long wait, spring will arrive again.
I somehow want listen this music again and again, when I start listening this.. So great song!
***** And this ends too quickly! Must listen again...
This episode was scary yet beautiful.
Her song is beautiful, soothing and enchanting.
I literally cried from fear to this episode when I was a kid and sometimes my mom listened to some music that I thought sounded similar to this and I got so anxious lol
It's strange but bc i'm like close to scandinavian Finnish i've always been obsessed with like nordic music without like lyrics just vocals i guess and some melody like this so i just find this hauntingly beautiful and almost relaxing
Josku2411 Im half Finnish half Swedish but still think it’s scary 🙈

The most horrifying thing is that you hear her singing in a later episode/year later during the winter.
Yes, this abomination visits Moominvalley every winter and now has a flying horse...
I live in Northern Finland (not as up as Lapland, but still in the far North) and this song gives me visions of the way from my town to my grandparents', with roads going through endless snowy forests, and the only lightsource is the car lights.
Hei kaveri, she doesn't attack if you don't provoke her. Middle Finlander here and we got a plot in Lapland.
It's pretty Autistic, but when I'm there I make something out of the snow for her.
Childhood traumas.. damn
@@mmamackela284 please don't refer your stuff as "Autistic" if you don't actually have autism... but hei kaveri cool story!
that's beautiful, thank you
This singing just flat out lulls me straight to sleep for some reason, it's just really soothing to me
From what I've heard and read, severely cold weather saps your of your energy. Once you get the bright idea to "get a little rest and then keep moving", you won't be waking up. This is why staying mobile is equal to staying alive in the cold.
In the latest 3D-animated rendition of Moominvalley, Moomintroll runs into the Lady of the Cold, who cradles him on the northern wind before tucking him in with a blanket of snow, but he is luckily saved from this tender death. A cold, tender lullaby of death.
In the episode, you can see her true body through that ice.. thing.. She has an expressionless face SHE'S JUST TERRIFYING. And when she runs after My and waits until she looks her in the eye and then she just... I hate it and love it. She's extremely scary and horrifying to me.
When hearing this song in the heart of cold winter, hide inside fast and do not look out from any windows!
So cosmic! Like a visions of another planets!
Like visions from another dimensions or beyond reality
@kristian rikardsen you mean Groke?
I grew up watching this and I always had to cover my eyes and ears whenever her or groke came on the screen, I still shiver while listening to this
Man, this show knew how to create and build atmosphere! My favourite - by far - as a child, and now I got a daughter of my own and get to introduce this magnificent world to her and see her first impressions!
It's the most beautiful song ever. The very first moment I heard it I knew it was special. It would be a dream to have a vinyl copy.
For anyone wondering what she is saying: she's not. She's just singing some beautiful nonsense as far as I can hear ^^
I can hear "glory" and "holy", it seems pretty clear
@@Dustie1984 This is nordic influenced likely there are infact no words only sort of noises it's common for some types of our music(source..just a strong guess from a nord more specifically finnish which is one of the countries who worked on this cartoon)

Something like the time I stayed up past midnight to watch a lightning storm.
Moomin is my whole childhood. I remember always being terrified of her, but now I only find beauty and comfort in her
I didn't grow up on this show and only discovered it about a year or two ago. I just remember thinking this song was hauntingly beautiful.
I'm 25 and didn't grow up with the Mommins, but damn.
THIS TRAUMATISED ME AS A KID I HAD TO GET MY MOM TO WATCH THE WHOLE EPISODE LMFAO
this character made shit my pants when I was a kid >..>
my 4 year old daughter watched every episode and this one gotta be her favourite. I guess she's like me.
Tbf lady of the cold never scared me. But the groke... Not any horror Hollywood movie can compete with the nightmares she gave me... *Shivers*
The Lady of the Cold
is a supernatural being appearing in Moominvalley in Moominland Midwinter.
Her appearance is described as very beautiful, but if she looks someone in the eye, that person will instantly freeze to death, making her similiar to mythological creatures such as sirens. Her cold properties resembles those of the Groke, though instead of frightening people by her looks, the Lady of the Cold lures people towards her with her appearance. moomin.fandom.com/wiki/The_Lady_of_the_Cold
This song still gives me the chills!
i used to watch this episode of Moomins so ma ny times when i was little, it was always so scary but fascinating at the same time, i loved it so much
This has always been my favourite episode. I know that "hufsa" as the black ghost looking thing is named in norwegian is scary as hell....but that winter lady.. I thought she was beautiful and I loved this song so much. Sure, it is scary aswell.. but .. I mean.. so f-ing beautiful too! :D
Everybody fears the Groke, but I was scared of the Ice Lady the most
Beautiful song❤
this episode was horrifying as a kid

Thinking of my childhood. Best part of it. Thank you moomin.
Even at young age when I saw her for the first time, I was grasped by her grace... just like it was supposed to. That, is what terrifies me the most
Funnily enough, when I listened to this, the page froze...
Oh, my goodness...
She still scares me to this day😂😨

Such a gorgeous and haunting melody.

Scandinavia's version of Medusa.
This is one of those that must be listened to the end. Otherwise you are afraid that thing related to the song will make its revenge
If Aurora borealis could sing, it would sound like this. And according to a Northern myth, the northern lights are souls of dead children who dance in the sky. Combination of beauty and fear - such is life.
In Sami culture the northern light consists of the souls of the dead (not just children), and is something you should respect and even fear. If you sing, make noise or taunt it, it would reach down and bring you up with it and trap you inside the sky forever, so many sami people would stay inside when the northern light arrive. I like how it's similar to this episode where Too-ticky and Moomin urge everyone to stay away when the lady of the cold arrives, because she has dangerous powers and will punish those who disrespect her.
I dont want to hear this song, begause of "the episode"... I dont even want to remember that scene. But I do fear more of The Groke, but I want to see her episodes, especially Moominpapas memouars
still i find this song to be very beautiful.
This episode scared me to the point that I was afraid to go to the bathroom in the evening because I was scared she'd stand outside the window, ready to freeze me to ice, when I opened the door.
The episode was always the worst one for me and painful to get through, but I always came back just to hear this song. Even as I kid I couldn’t stop thinking about this song
When i saw it, i was 10 years old, and now i am 30 and i still afraid of it😣
Me to, I'm 28!
Is it just me hearing words "Glory" and "Holy"? It's a wonderful voice and Lady of the Cold was so full of magic that I almost felt it on my skin :)
Well whatever she's singing is probably in Japanese
@@Unknown_crusader It doesn't matter what language she's singing in, the way you feel the music is how you understand it. This is the beauty of art - it's free for any interpretation, including the words in languages you don't know :)

"Puhalla, tuulenpakana, puhalla! MINÄ OLEN PULASSA!"
Imagine this...
You live far up north in a Nordic country, and you have just made your way home, getting off the bus. It's in the middle of the winter and late in the evening and freezing (-25°C or colder) and not even a gust of wind. It is all quiet, all you hear are your own footsteps in the snow on the desolate highway as you make your way toward your home.
Suddenly, it gets windy, and you can barely make out sounds in the distance, surrounded by forest. It gets closer, slowly. Now, you can clearly make out this song somewhere in the dark distance, and the winds are getting stronger. The asphalt is no longer visible due to blowing and drifting, and the song echoes more and more clearly and louder, slowly closing in to where you are, and you are alone...
I don't know if i'm scared or impressed! o_o
