The Chant is Russian. Also Protestants who are seething here about icons, go read a few verses in exodus after the commandments 😉 Read further than just cherry picking verses. “Money could have been given to the poor.” This is the argument Judas uses: John 12:5. What Solomon’s temple looked like on the inside: carolpetersonauthor.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/templeinside.jpg An ancient Jewish Synagogue: theorthodoxlife.files.wordpress.com/2011/11/dura-europos-western-wall.jpg On Icons; www.saintjohnchurch.org/does-the-second-commandment-forbid-icons/

don't be too fascinated. I'm Ukrainian and Catholic, grew up among Orthodox people who are often extremely xenophobic. so speaking about icons, you need to separate Asiatic paintings of ruSSia from the rest of the Orthodox world. and remember that ruSSians used to destroy old Ukrainian Barocco icons, churches, altars, and so on. oh yes, and they used to steal icons as well. Vladimir Virgin is actually stolen from Vyshhorod. if you consider icons as art is ok. but if you look closely into iconography, into intricate, discordant and fantastic explanations of why they look so and so, you may become slightly disappointed.

Philippians 2:5 - 2:11 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

You may think that I am crazy while you read this, but I can assure you that the beauty of the Lord’s love is so great that it can appear overwhelming at first. Jesus died and took the penalty for your sins to save you because he is the slain lamb and absolutely adores you as His child. Faith without works is dead, so they serve as a pair.I PROMISE you that as soon as you begin believing, the Holy Spirit will dwell within you. Even the faith the size of a mustard seed can progress to move mountains (God in the flesh said this). The crucifixion and resurrection did occur in terms of history-Jesus did defeat death. I remember bringing my uncle, a Baptist preacher, to my local church once and he was so overwhelmed he fell to his knees and wept, a man then of 64. He begged me for forgiveness for having berated me for my conversion. I forgave and embraced him beneath an icon of the Blessed Virgin holding the Holy Infant 😭😭 It was so beautiful. You don't have this problem if you raise your kids in this environment. The baby can have communion after it is baptised, but they don't cry if they see their parents participate in silent contemplation etc. You learn that you may have to stay silent and standing for a long time and that it's not always about you. What we tend to do in recent years is just allow them to play outside, as they don't understand the point, but most people who experience this end up returning to it when they grow up and realise the benefit. Also they tend to have fond memories of their childhood and that can also be a factor.

That is an intentional thing. Protestantism was partially rooted in the desire to abandon practices the founders deemed immoral or distasteful, the elaborate and expensive church interiors at the time were seen as a sign of materialism and earthly values. They believed things being as plain and bare bones as possible was more humble and honorable, and brought them closer to God. This is why early protestant churches, clothes, Bibles, homes, literally everything was very simple and plain-looking.

Early protestants made a deliberate effort to do this, it is well-documented in their history, and is still seen today in legacy communities of this movement such as the Amish and Mennonites. Non-Greek, Western Catholic Europeans at the time engaged in ornate decor and architecture much like the Greeks, which is what the early Protestants rejected. There is nothing to be upset about, it is simply acknowledging historical fact and why two different groups chose to take different views and practices. For Catholics and Orthodox, the beauty of their structures is a testament to the glory of God. For Protestants, the plainness represented their ideals of devotion to God and rejection of what they perceived as worldy. Both are wholesome, honorable sentiments.

GOD created us 1stly in SPIRIT then formed our flesh in our mothers wombs.
Free will starts on the day you born here and ends on the day you depart from here. it is not given nor found earlier, as earlier you didn`t exist.
earth is testing ground, as it has became lucifers kingdom.
testing ground for us, to show GOD whom amongst us shall be deceived by lucifer.
All the answers are pretty clear ones - aren´t these? - MANY are deceived and FEW are not.
None of us can`t drag free will beyond humans earthly life, as it is not earlier nor after found nor given.
Jeremiah 1:5 KJV Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
FREE WILL is given for the choices which are here on earth to make.
      Deuteronomy 30:19
I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:
      Joshua 24:15
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
Since making choices and being deceived takes place here on earth, free will does not go beyond human earthly lives.

      @maria-teodora.436 11 месяцев назад +3

@@opinionatortv6457 I agree with you, only God can save us, but being Orthodox does not only mean the Church. We pray in church that is the house of God and we respect it, but being Orthodox also mean the way the Bible is understood and explained the same way being a Protestant is, you interpret the Holy Bible in a different way.The word Orthodox comes from a Greek word that can be translated as “right believing”, if you want you can search more, but being Christian Orthodox is much more than Church even though it has a huge importance. In example we do not disrespect the Mother of God. We ascribe this title to her in accordance with the rulings of the Third Ecumenical Council, because she did not simply bear the man Jesus Christ; she bore the incarnate God. How is this so? Because Jesus Christ was not only fully man, but also fully God. By bearing Jesus Christ, the Son and Word of God [and thus also God Himself (John 1:1)], we give her the fitting title, Theotokos. The titles given to her merely explain the true nature of Christ and protect His identity as the unique Theanthropos (God-Man). Any title she receives can only be understood in light of her Son and His saving activity.
So when we see a prayer like, “Most Holy Theotokos, save us,” this isn’t us literally asking her to exact salvation in our behalf. As Christians, we know and openly proclaim that only Christ can do so. However, we can also acknowledge, as Christians, that “save” doesn’t just have to refer to salvation.
When Jesus saw His mother and the disciple John standing by the cross, He entrusted him with her care. He also established a new spiritual relationship between them in saying to the disciple: “Behold your Mother” (John 19:27). In making this statement, Christ makes the Theotokos the mother of His Disciples. In other words, the mother of all Christians. And what better way to show a mother you love her than to honor her for the role she played in your salvation?

I cordially embrace all those who have come to the Orthodox church, and converts, and those who have been in Orthodoxy since infancy, and those who only think about entering Orthodoxy!
I am 45 years old, I was born into an atheist family in Russia, but in secret from my parents I was baptized at the age of 17. I still remember this trembling day, my hamstrings were shaking from the realization of belonging to God! The temple was very simple, wooden! And there were no wall paintings! The dome of the temple outside was painted with green paint. The icons were old mixed with new ones!
And everything in me was singing and crying with happiness! Oh, my God! Glory to you, Creator of heaven and earth! You accepted Me, a sinful and insignificant one, preserved Me, strengthened Me, calmed Me down... Lord, guide me through life further! Teach me to use my powers every day in Your Name! Don't leave me despondent! May my hands glorify You with their deeds!

@@jaisbrennan7696 I was saying in the sense that the beauty of the temple has determined little for me. And the beauty of the service was also not decisive. The concept of understanding the divinity of Jesus was important. It was important to understand the continuity of the entire tradition from the time of the first apostles. It was important to realize the direct participation of the apostolic succession and the action of the Holy Spirit in this Church, and not in other communities. It was important, after all, that frank simplicity bordered on sincere worship of the Trinity.

Even if you're not religious you have to appreciate the art and the atmosphere of such a place. I'm not Muslim but I can appreciate some of the mosques I've seen in my time and the acoustics. @@nazorean I'm not even Orthodox or Roman Catholic. I'm Lutheran, but you are wrong here. Even more traditional protestant denominations will have Roman iconography and traditional vestments and decorations.
Unlike the Orthodox, I believe in Sola Scriptura, meaning I believe holy traditions and all teachings must be derived from scripture. The thing is, these Orthodox traditions ARE derived from scripture. You can see in the Old Testament how God lays out a very precise design for the Tabernacle and the Ark of the Covenant (which includes carvings of cherubim, by the way). There was plenty of decoration and formal protocol in place even for the very first worshippers of God, and at no point does Jesus abolish this approach to worship.
Anything can be an "image" in theory, and it is very possible to commit idolatry in worshipping it, so icons are not some special case. You can even commit idolatry with a written page of the Bible or a cross necklace if you try hard enough. However, the Orthodox do not actually worship icons. It is a way of depicting and honoring the actions of God, simple as that.
In ancient times, most people did not know how to read, and so readings of scripture and visual iconographic depiction was how you would be exposed to the Word. In Russia, illiteracy was the norm until the end of serfdom. Even in modern times, this is a very simple and effective way to convey the Word in its full value, which is why people still have such a strong reaction to entering these ancient churches. Lutheran worship comes from Western Rite practices, but with hymns and chanting done by both laymen and clergy. There also tends to be some Germanic or Baltic cultural quirks too, but any church will have practices influenced by its founding culture.
My home church has an American flag, which I'm told became common when Woodrow Wilson became president, and people started disliking everything German. Honestly the presence of an American flag is probably more sketchy than any of the icons shown in the video, as the USA is a secular institution.
