Strangely enough, I once had a pet tiger named Dog...
Don't think I knew about this movie before, an odd gap. I gets me some Logan's Run off what I done see.
never been much of a one for post apocalypsies, because they're usually post WW3 and, well, no one will survive that. No one. I don't think, generally, people get just how much of human society depends on constant infrastructure. No, everyone would just be dead. I reckon the PA thing is probably down to our lack of being able to imagine a world in which we are dead, so, even though we can intellectually acknowledge WW3 would be amazingly fatal, we still can't help but see the aftermath, and then our brains think it's survivable.
That's just a nitticus pitticus, I guess. Bugs me,.
My fave PA movie is Mad Max, the first one. Because it's set during the collapse, and the collapse isn't nuclear. It feels a lot more plausible.
    Anyhoo.
Your shoes, your roads, as Doctor Zhivago never said.
I played FO3 and FO4 and the biggest thing I took away was how annoying they both were. Mainly, a lack of following through on the potential. The worlds were plenty big, certainly for the time, and that's a thingy I liked, BUT, they never used the scale for anything. Actual combat was in very tight confines. Even in the great outside there were so many hills, and buildings, and rocks, you never got much of a usuable space, and I, well. The only skill I have that I just got by random genetics, is I am a superb shot. I am ridiculously good with a rifle. Didn't ask to be, just happened to be. Not especially useful in England, of course, it's near impossible to get your hands on a rifle. Not trying to brag or anything, just explaining, my instant response to wide open game worlds is 'Frickin' A, man, I'm gonna get me a .308 and reach out to touch a few people...' but there's nowhere in Fallout you can use a rifle. Nowhere. The most snipey you can get is maybe two hundred feet, which is basically like having the baddies put their heads against the barrel.
They never really delved into the interesting bits of their lore, neither, there are implications of things they do that they more or less ignore. I've seen R34 sites, I know what the public think about with Fallout.
Plus, the new series, it's going to be awful, of course, it's a show being created by people who's first question is 'Do we have to do any scenes where we won't push our DEI agenda?' and who have never read anything more complicated than a Twitter thread on "How The Patriarchy gave me dire beasties.' and one of the biggest noticable symptoms in the vault dweller, flagship image, comes out of the vault in a spotless bright blue uniform with gleaming white t-shirt. So, no one involved with the production has ever even seen a fallout screenshot. Of course, wearing dirty worn out clothes implies that the stunning and brave girl who's the destined one is something slightly less than a perfect princess, so, can't be having that. Nah, man, it's going to blow harder than a smutty innuendo. IMHO. Prove me wrong, rainbow weirdoes, prove me wrong.
Well, yes, but I woke up late and I've been ill.

Ummmmmm.....sorry, but no. Fallout just happens to be the continuation of the Wasteland storyline I used to play on my C-64 (later128). The film however is a cold war piece of art....Dogmeat is a tribute to both the film and a dog from the original game named Rex when, in the first encounter at Highpool, you meet a boy and his dog.

    • @JBSpookyReview

Fallout is inspired by wasteland as well, but the game is largely inspired by a Boy and his Dog.

@@JBSpookyReview dude....I am a hardcore OS gamer that just happened to play Wasteland on the old classic C-64. The Wasteleand to Fallout storyline is pretty well documented. As a matter of fact, the only referance to the old movie is the character "dogmeat" in Fallout 3...the 5th game in the series. There are plenty of other old movie references as well, so to say the game was based or inspired by 'a dog and his boy' just lets us old guys know how young you are.
The one common carryover in wasteland to Fallout is the reoccurring antagonist...a computer that thinks it is in control.

@@juggaloprofessorknowbodyim3215 Yeah but wasn't Wasteland something that was discussed after the initially conception of a Post Apocalyptic RPG like the guys under Tim were like oh yeah our boss totally worked on Wasteland and there was some discussion of a wasteland sequel that went no wear or something. Plus I'm sure for the look and feel of a more technically and graphically rich game the team would have looked at popular films hell they may have even looked at what had inspired Wasteland as the suggestions of a sequel were made by studio heads. Either way the point of this ramble is to say that artists generally find inspiration from a large pool of media and life experience... So boy and his dog totally inspired fallout

Showing something on film doesn't mean the director agrees with what's in the story or what the characters do. I think it's perfectly fine to show something and let the viewers make up their own mind about it, without ramming a moral lesson down their throat. We're not stupid, we don't need to be told what to think, we can think for ourselves. Some of the best movies are movies that make you think long after you've seen them.
