    Thats a great looking plane. Thanks buddy. The fms p39 is real heavy like that too. Its all motor. Built for speed.

      Thanks! Yeah she’s heavy but definitely makes up for it in power!

      Ya p40. My bad.

    Just saw another demonstration and the guy had put the prop on a pusher backwards after a couple of minutes burnt out the motor. Your Cobra is so nice.

      Pusher prop?!? That's the first time I ever heard anything like that, and this plane has been on the market for nearly a decade, if not more! Motion RC used to sell these. Never had an issue like that with mine, and mine had a 11x12 prop which many recommend changing from stock prop into.

    I honestly thought this model was discontinued years ago!!! Very nice plane to fly .. i had a least two! The reflex system is indeed a hindrance to a degree. I have it in my FMS F7F Tigercat. To me, it causes planes to be darty when flying with them. A good idea to bypass altogether.

    • @JonsRC
      @JonsRC  Год назад

      Yep! She’s an awesome plane to fly. I wish they didn’t install the reflex gyro and just made the plane a bit cheaper. There are two other RC pilots in our flying field that flies this bird and all of them have removed the reflex gyro.

    • @zepovinho200
      @zepovinho200 Год назад

      @@JonsRC Yes, I am one of these 2 pilots. The Reflex is indeed such a hindrance that I just took off that gyro by prying it out with a screwdriver. And in so doing, I have more room to install the Rx and wires-there is barely enough room in the fuselage as it is and the Reflex gyro just gets in the way and really is a hindrance. But this is a plane that, once you know its quirks and its demands, it becomes such a joy to fly that it can become one of your favorites in your hangar. At first I was intimidated by its weight and speed but by now it has become my fave in my hangar. As for the Reflex gyro, I ended up selling it. Now if FMS also brought back the 980 mm P-39 Hells Bells (the camo version with the 3 blade prop)...

    @zepovinho200 Год назад +1

    Yes, take off the Reflex and any stabilization. I fly it without any stabilization at all and it flies very well.
    As you mentioned, this plane is heavy. It’s heavy for its size therefore its wing loading is rather high. It does not like to be flown slowly and is unforgiving of botched landings (the gear WILL bend). It also needs rudder in turns because it does have adverse yaw. If you don’t apply rudder the plane tends to drift in the opposite direction.
    I would not risk doing those stall turns with it. It really needs to keep moving. Also, as for speed, I don’t think it hits 100 mph. Most likely around 75 to 80, and this in a dive run. I have seen videos of people flying it on 6s but that is something I would not recommend unless your reflexes are real sharp and have a rather large field. As it is one of the things to watch out for is the possibility of losing this plane to disorientation. It’s a fast plane stock, and you need to be 100 percent attentive to it. If you don’t the plane will get away from you fast and become so small you will be disoriented and it will crash. I have seen people where I fly who have lost planes this way.

      @JonsRC  Год назад

      Yep! I took a flat screwdriver and pried off the reflex today! She is heavy buy even at half throttle, she definitely has power to spare!

      I never had issues like what you're describing. My p39 flew like it was on rails. Although this plane likes to be flown fast it has a pretty wide flying envelope.

    I can't imagine why they didn't put a nose gear door on it. It doesn't look right without it.

    • @zepovinho200
      @zepovinho200 Год назад

      At this size, mounting a nose gear door mechanism would add more weight because it will need an extra servo to operate the door if you want it scale (doors to the side). This is how the rear door of the 1.5 m E-Flite P-51 operates-with servos. And as it is, the plane becomes so small during flight that the lack of doors is not even noticeable. What would be ideal is to decrease the weight of the plane.
      Things are added or omitted for a reason in modeling. and adding a front nose gear door mechanism in a small and heavily loaded plane is not practical.

      @@zepovinho200 I hear ya, but I would just add the door to the nose gear strut. I'm sure I could easily enough do it myself. Not having a nose gear door just really irks me, especially since it's the race version. Yeah, you're right, it needs to be lighter also. Why do you think it's so heavy? I realize it's got flaps and RG, but still, it's heavy.
      Most 4S 2200 30C batts weigh around 230G, of course, heavier with a higher C rating. Still, it seems heavy at 1360G AUW. Have you weighed yours?

    • @zepovinho200
      @zepovinho200 Год назад +1

      1360 grams, which gives a wing loading of about 28 ounces per square foot.
      Also, it’s important to weigh the batteries. They vary. For example, the Spektrum 2200 mAh 4S 30C weighs 223 grams. The 2200 GensAce 4s 45C is 238 grams, and the HRB 2200 mAh 4S 30C weighs 252 grams. This dictates where I place the battery for CG purposes.
      This plane has a very narrow tolerance of CG. Just a bit forward and it wants to dive. Just a tad back and it balloons.
      I think it’s heavy because it has a motor that is the same size of the 1.2 m E-Flite warbirds, an ESC slightly smaller than a driver license, very dense foam, digital metal gear servos, and the retracts plus the battery.

      @@zepovinho200 Have you checked the speed of it yet? How do you like flying it? Have you checked out the FMS 1.1 meter and .8 meter Mustangs?

    • @zepovinho200
      @zepovinho200 Год назад

      Not with a radar gun, but based on estimates, the 980 mm P-39 does around 75 to 80 mph with the stock power system, prop, and 4s 2200 mAh 30C lipo. I ordered a 100C 2200 mAh 4s from Spektrum. I also just got a 50C 2200 mAh 4s from Spektrum. It weighs 227 grams. I think that the 6s setup as seen on some of the RUclips videos give more than 100 mph.
      Once I got used to it’s demanding flying characteristics, it became my fave of my hangar. It is pure joy and keeps you 100 percent attentive. I haven’t flown the FMS Mustang racers but I have flown the E-Flite UMX Voodoo. It is just as demanding to fly as the 980 mm P-39 and is very fast and nimble, and is quite capable of very tight turns without losing energy.
