      I personally love strawberry boost, it’s much more mild than ensure, I found it too sweet. There’s also meal replacement puddings and juice boxes (odd texture on the juice). Mainly look for it the food is a certified meal replacement (it will say on the package), and there’s so many flavours to play around with, though it is expensive. Other than that, multivitamins are good if you have absorption issues or if you aren’t eating fortified foods (all meal replacements are required to be fortified). Hope this helps!😊

    THis forgot about "nutritional shakes", which are drinks similar to protein shakes in that their purpose is to boost some nutrients. I am an incredibly picky eater, so I drink some nutritional shakes at the suggestion of my doctor when I was a kid. The shakes I get are the generic ones from walmart, Equate brand I think. They literally say "nutritional shake" on the bottle. They have 25% of most of the main nutrients, and 60% in a couple, and they also have the trace/micro nutrients I'd likely not be getting by my narrow diet. The PLUS variety I get has 350 calories, versus the 250 in the regular bottle.

      Coming from someone who consumed almost exclusively ensure and its generic alternatives for 2 years before I got my feeding tube it is possible but there are consequences. Ensure has a surprisingly large amount of sugar in it and most of abbots nutrition products including jevity one of the tube feeding formulas go off the 1996 RDI which is heavier in carbs than is currently reccomended. After 2 years of ensure being my primary source of nutrition I was pre-diabetic and I am still dealing with insulin resistance secondary to PCOS. Nowadays I use a tube formula called liquid hope which is more whole food based with balanced micronutrients less sugars and im a lot better off. So while it is possible to sustain yourself with meal replacements you have to be very careful about the micronutrients balance in the meal replacements. Also its absolutely miserable living on meal replacements, I can't smell or taste ensure without gagging nowadays.

      They aren't replacing meals with them. It's a supplement. No bodybuilder or any person who wants to be muscular would ever replace real food with a protein shake.

    You could just....
    1. Buy a blended
    Or
    2. Get a feeding tube

    I remember a classmate trying to diet by eating 1/4th of a vitamin pill every 4 hours. I think she lasted 3 days, then gained weight binge eating.

    My father has ALS and I have been feeding him meal replacements through his peg tube for the last 5 years. It’s definitely possible.

      Eating is such a chore..almost as much as cooking..and having to get the darn food in the first place.

    Can’t comatose patients survive on an all liquid diet for pretty long but it may be because they don’t move

    • @ka-im5nd
      @ka-im5nd 4 года назад +18

      Not only are they not moving, their brain activity is WAY below normal. On top of that, their "all-liquid diet" involves the nutrients being directly pumped into their bodies through IV etc., not drinking meal replacements or protein shakes. A good question, but a comatose patient in a hospital bed with tubes sticking in them is a very different situation to someone living life normally trying to survive from ingesting only liquid.

    Assuming a normal, relatively healthy diet beforehand, all you need is calories short term, at least a month. I've done it. I have a bad gut, and there's times I just can't eat. I've survived for about a month on just Boost Shakes. 7 a day. They're much better cold. They're nasty when they get warm.

    I don't think I've ever heard anyone say they're tired of eating food before. That's like someone saying they're tired of having to breathe
