Although a fair criticism, the game doesn't make the lore clear at all. I listened to all the dialogue and had barely any idea what is going on. The graves in ash were not mentioned literally any other time in the game, nor are they signed on the map. You just stumble blindly on it without even realizing.
@@Horny_Fruit_Flies imo it makes the stuff that you need to know for what's happening in the present very clear or at least clear enough. Could some things be explained more? Yes, but most of the vague stuff is about stuff that was thousands of years before the story and isn't too important to know.
@@dooplon5083 I would argue that knowing where the f*ck the Graves in ash are is pretty important, since you can't get all the other endings without finding it? The fact that it's mentioned during like one of the only cutscenes in the entire game would suggest that it's important as well? Also, it would be a feat to fail to explain the premise of the game, which is: 1. Find Dream nail > 2. Kill 3 Dreamers > 3. Kill final boss. And even then you find the Dream nail literally by accident, so that's only 2 outta 3 simple premises made clear. And for that matter if you're unlucky like me and go to Deepnest before Kingdom's Edge (since Deepnest has several obvious entrances, while KE has one secret entrance that I missed and one tram entrance that requires you to go to Deepnest for the pass) and kill Herrah, you never get to find out that she was Hornet's mother. So that was an important piece of lore that I was locked out off because I didn't f*cking know that KE existed and that the Graves in ash are there.
@@Horny_Fruit_Flies Actually, there are multiple entrances to the resting grounds, nearly every single one requires a powerup of some sort (the entrance via falling into the chasm that you reference requires either the lantern or the dive spell to get to crystal peaks) but there's also a secret entrance above Salubra's hut that leads to the blue lake (needs double jump) as well as the tram room that you can access from your very first visit to the crossroads. Granted you cant actually *use* the tram until you get the pass but since it sticks out like a sore thumb a player could easily decide to use it later once they find the pass in deepnest. Of course, this is ignoring the entrance from Kingdom's edge since you didn't find it until way later in your run. I really don't see too much of an issue with the placement of the dream nail considering how accessible the grounds are, especially considering that this genre is about exploration so having an area be so easily accessible makes it a damn near guarantee that you'll find it. Also, you missed the entrance to Kingdom's edge that uses the crystal dash, it's near Isma's Grove. Finally, your hornet complaint doesn't really matter imo considering the White Lady and the Deepnest Midwife give the same and _more_ lore just a tad more cryptically. White lady literally tells you that the "gendered child" that gave you the king's mark was born from a dalliance between herrah and the pale king (and in case you've never heard the word before dalliance means a sexual relationship). Midwife further clarifies that this was part of an alliance with the king and Hornet's birth was the reward for accepting the role of being a dreamer. Hell, compared to _all_ that you get from everyone else I don't know why you're so ticked at hornet just saying "this is my mom" and feeling sad, even her mom says more as when you dreamnail her in the dream world she mentions doing it for an unnamed daughter and brings up the bargain (hell, she even has hornet's crescent shaped horns, you can infer her kid from her design and the fact that the weaver enemies wear red robes like hornet's if you've got good eyes lol). Hell, you can even find hornet's *room* hidden in deepnest if you look hard enough (her room is hidden in a high corner of the room where you get the weaver charm, but I'll admit that it can be a bitch to find. Here's a guide: ruclips.net/video/5vBsEkdebOM/видео.html ) along with dead weavers that reference the bargain if you dreamnail em.

@@quasiZoteI think he did watch a lot of speedruns and hollow knight content but I don't think he played the game before. tbf, he didn't do any major glitches or anything (by speedrun standards), so he very clearly didn't know they existed. A lot of them are pretty intuitive if you're actively wanting to do stuff in an unintended way, which has basically been the motto of this channel since its inception. I'd be more surprised if he didn't find any, given how even RTGame found a couple just playing normally.
I did a lot of this stuff too. Double jump was legit the last upgrade I found. I also beat Brooding Mawlek before getting the dash. This game's movement and combat were phenomenal enough that you always have options of how to deal with certain things, the upgrades just create a general path of least resistance.
I seriously think Ant would love speedrunning Hollow Knight. There’s a massive variety of categories with various different vibes to them and a great community behind it.
to be fair, different strengths. Lost kin was my first dream boss and all forms of defender (except the extreme damage rematches that hit harder than any other vanilla boss other than grey prince) i find easy even without dive, but i cant even beat grey prince 1 and i had to look up a cheesy strat for grimm 1 (did not bother with grimm 2 outside hall of gods).

@@jimtsap04 I appreciate the opinion, but I would argue that it teaches bad habits... The retaliatory damage is great, don't get me wrong, but because it messes with stun and i-frames, getting used to the rhythm of combat with Thorns equipped can REALLY mess you up when you take it off. Likewise, if you're not already used to it, you might feel incredibly sluggish when you first put it on. If you feel like you're getting hit often and want some value out of it, I'd take Defender's for a little bit of free damage without changing the stun animation, or Grubsong for the chance at extra damage or recovery after taking that hit. If you have the space, Stalwart is also possibly a contender because it gives extra invincibility without affecting stun (to my knowledge)... But even then, I'd argue that could still lead to some bad habits if you learn to rely on those i-frames too heavily.
“Some bugs are good and some are bad” “The hollowknight sucks at they‘re job” That sums up all the lore pretty good (Also he did AMAZING. Don’t be toxic he’s a good gamer I feel bad how much better he did but he deserves it so good job smallant I hope you like the game!)
I mean, to be fair, he hasn't hit the REALLY hard parts of the game yet. But it's mostly just that the game expects you to learn how to dodge things, and most people's first instinct when hit is to immediately heal which gets them hit again. So if you learn how to dodge things early, and don't instinctively heal, you'll probably do pretty well. I'm more annoyed at how he does something and is like "That wasn't hard". I know it's likely just to rile up chat, but there's a difference between THK being "not difficult" and "easiest boss in the game".

Thorns is great if you're not great at dodging though
