I raised my kids to understand that regardless of their current circumstances to be content. Be happy where you are now. That doesn’t mean that is where you will be the rest of your life , but… accepting of it and prepared for any more that can be added. If nothing is added, then you will be happy.

It makes me think of a similar situation in our day. A people who once lived in a land, became exhaled, and finally went back to build new lives because they felt unsafe in the old. Unfortunately rather than meeting with a reception similar to the nephites. The Israelite reception was the opposite.

I always get tears in my eyes when I read Alma 27. It is the ultimate lesson in conversion and forgiveness. I often wonder if any of the Nephites and their families had been adversely affected by the Anti-Nephi-Lehi's. Had any of their family members been killed by them way back before their conversion? And what about the Nephites who were currently living in the Land of Jershon? Had some of them worked for years tilling the ground and setting up their homes, only to be asked to give it up for a people who might have killed family members? But those who love Jesus and have committed their lives to him, DO give up their land and their homes, don't they? And if asked, they'd do it over and over again, no matter the history. I love the lessons of the Book of Mormon.

Cool insight: despite feeling his desire was unrighteous, Alma ended up being translated or “taken up even as Moses.”
We know translated beings become such because they still have a work to do they are Gods messengers. Angel means messenger.
In other words God granted Alma’s wish and made him an angel .
