The reason why it's called candy floss is because when it's made in the spinning machine it looks thin like floss. As an Australian, I can confirm that when you speak American, your tongue is sticking back when you talk, but when speaking Australian your tongue is mostly outwards. Example, saying “yeah” in both Australian and American.

I don’t really get what you mean though, I feel that when I try to do a English or Australian accent I need to stick my tongue back whereas speaking normally my tongue goes forward/outwards.
