Popper and spooks are my favorite baits and way to fish Great information and great video. This video is full of gold. This is why I watch your channel. Thanks you.
I'm in agreement with the Zara Spooks.. I've been using them since 1963 in both fresh & Saltwater.. My PB Snook was caught on the Bullfrog color 18 lbs..
That bullfrog color reminds of bluegill or other panfish. The biggest bass I’ve ever seen on public water was trying to eat a dying panfish floating on its side. Noted! 🤙🏻
My favorite is a hot frog chug bug. I take and file off the bottom lip and some of the top and walk it. It was crazy good for years on Newton lake in ILL. It's a power plant lake think this may be the last year for winter fishing there. Ask Denny Brauer about that lake has done lots of shows on it.
So nice how you throw in how you haven't done well on a certain color or lure, but don't mind mentioning that others really like it...........shows confidence and ego control. We are all haunted by certain lures/colors like that! Any chance of a video not on topwater colors, but when you tend to use buzzbait vs plopper vs Rapala, vs spook etc?
It's called a "bird dog". It's for covering lots of water in practice and gives you the ability to produce strikes and locate bass without 'sore-mouthing' them before a tournament.
Early in the morning clear can be a good color as well. Either that or that matte color. Is there any time you would use a one knocker over a regular spook?
Ive yet to catch a fish on topwater lure, just started bass fishing this year because my son has really fell in love with fiahing and got me back fiahing after almost 20 year break. Ive had really good luck with swimabits and fluke type baits and its hard for me to get away from that because i have confidence i will catch fish with those baits. I spent 4 hours yesterday throwing different top water lures without a single bite, switched to a senko and caught one within 5 minutes. Hopefully next year i will be able to have some luck and gain some confidence once i actually catch a fish on one. I think my setup may be a lot of the issue. Whats the best rod, reel, line setup for fiahing topwater?
Suggestion: use a shorter, lighter action rod and a faster gear ratio reel. I still like a VERY short rod for spook fishing; an old school PISTOL GRIP, even. 5'6" or 6' with a short handle works best. The guy whose picture is featured here, Charlie Campbell-a Zara Spook master- was a big proponent of a pistol grip rod for "walking the dog" with a Spook; it just makes it easier.
The color of the spook at the end is NOT called "Christmas Tree"; it's called "Flitter Shad" or "Silver Flitter Shad", because of the silver glitter on it's sides. The true "Christmas Tree" color was on a South Bend Nip-I-Diddee, which was green and had what looked like lights or ornaments on it's sides. Also, Diamanté is pronounced Dı(DEE)-a-man-té; not DĪ(DIE)-a-man-té.

I’m not a topwater fisherman so the bent treble hooks thru me on the Christmas Tree Spook. Is that normal?? 8:27
No, that's not normal, but I have no idea the reasoning behind it.
@@tbauer2521I’d say it’s his practice topwater so he doesn’t sting a fish he wants in a tournament
+1 on it being for the day or two practice days before a tournament so the fish don't feel a hook and get spooked leaving the area he found them on.

That a Silver Flitter Shad

Can you walk a Zara spook with a half step so Zara goes in same direction twice?
