I think the reason why the meetings feel so much better is that it's focused on fun economics building of Tempest vs dry battle plans like in cour 1. Agree? See my full uncut live reactions to the episodes over on Patreon www.patreon.com/BrandonReviews

Keep it simple the three major points that define whether a meeting episode is good or not, for all shows, in no particular order, 1. Does it introduce to the viewer new and interesting information, 2. Does it introduce relevant new information to characters in universe that they didn't know, 3. The interactions and reactions of the characters are somewhat believable but also amusing. The problem with the first meeting of this season was it was stiff interaction wise, offered the viewer no new info, and was the characters mostly rehashing info they in universe mentioned last season "clayman was probably a pawn" with the only new bit I believe giving Geld a new assignment.

Economic meetings have the advantage of not necessarily being serious, so they can do all kinds of fun stuff, like Ramiris flitting all over the place. In a serious pre-battle meeting, they by necessity have to stay serious, since otherwise it'd trivialize the upcoming battle and take any sense of threat out of it, before it the fighting even starts. And it could also lead to emotional whiplash, if the pre-battle meeting is light hearted and then the battle is suddenly veering into dramatic territory, like when the otherworlders killed so many of Rimuru's subordinates, Rimuru slaughtering thousands of Humans or Hinata getting a part of her body gauged out in a way Rimuru can't heal.
That aside, there is one, admittedly minor detail I'm cofused about: Why does Erald have round ears while talking to the Empress? I thought this was just a magical disguise, like with Ellen, but why would he stay in disguise in a private meeting with another elf, in his own home nation?

The strategic meetings were serious, for the most part. Talking about open conflict, war, and dastardly plots is something Rimuru takes seriously after what happened last time.
So, less jokes. But if they had added in some maps, some visuals of troop movements, training, Sohei spying.. that would have made a difference.
The economic stuff now involves Rimuru coming up with fun schemes like the arena and dungeon, and we get characters like Ramiris and the elven Empress. Inherently more fun, but we also had the maps, the arena schematics , everything just visually more diverse and exciting.

My issue with first half versus second half is the first half was very static. It was Rimuru talk then look to left. They talk. Rimurur talk then look to the right. They talk. No movement. Nothing. It was boring after a while. In second half there is more movement and action during the talks. People are animated in their actions with lively facial expressions. It just feels more fun.

In these episodes and the entire following festival arc the focus is of course much more on the economic side, but more importantly, it gives the characters a lot more time to shine. All these pretty whacky personalities interacting with each other make for so many light-hearted and fun moments that you oftentimes just won't get when there's the looming threat of war over them. Even in later arcs when the story really picks up the pace there're still a lot of those moments, but especially now we get a good stretch of that "Slime Diaries feeling" that was present in especially the first season and then of course Slime Diaries itself that drew me personally into this story in the first place, and makes Tempest feel somewhat like "home"

I honestly don’t even blame the studio or directing. That entire last arc was pretty serious and it was just introducing the next couple set of villains. And how much they know about Rimuru. Not to mention they’re all pretty serious characters so I don’t really think more dynamic directing would have fit the tone. (They could have still spiced up the Tempest meetings a bit) It was just a slower but necessary arc to understand a decent chunk of the rest of the story. I think they did what they could with an arc that just doesn’t translate well to animation.

To me slime is a civilization building show, so any meeting related to that works really well. With the war meetings it can be boring, because they usually just talk about what we will see later. There was definitely too much of THAT room in those episodes. But I still enjoy those boring moments, most of the people complaining just want the epic battles, while to me I would watch just slice of life episodes like Slime Diaries with a smile on my face. But I always liked strategy games, I love Dwarf Fortress, which if you think about it is basically what slime boils down to - you start with nothing in a world full of factions and legendary monsters and you just try building your dream city while dealing with everything the world throws at you. And most of the gametime in Dwarf Fortress happens in pause screen - planning and giving orders.

I think the crucial difference is that a lot of the previous meetings lacked characters from tempest. They were between villains, the templars and nobles. The wackiness and comedy of Tempest helps keeping the meetings fun. Also probably they got more budget because these meetings seem to have more movement and variety.

3:00 it’s actually part of the plot, the next series of battles are economical execution. I think the focus on meetings on the prior episodes was legit to lay ground works grand strategies in nation building, and now we see the execution on economical improvements which does sips a little prior and now the effects and impact particularly notable especially the the next contender requires much much more to “out bid”.
That said, I believe the animators likely had noted the monotony of meetings in some of the prior episodes and audiences feedbacks and decide to slash it shorter to mostly snippets to convey the mainly points and much less phoenix ace “objections” every item of discussion. In comparison, we are literally left out of window in these meetings now. For that I think is a good effort put fore.
But again do mind it’s a bigger crowd then while the last 2 meetings are on capacity on 1 on 1 relations so it might also help explain the difficulties in scaling of interest elaboration. Less that we need a shovel hero to specifically dig plot holes to escape owns undoing (cough cough…lvl 2 chill life) 😂

I don’t usually comment on videos here on RUclips, but to answer your question as to why the recent meetings seem “different” than the previous ones, I think it really just shows the fact that while a lot of people like to watch battle scenes because of all the action stuff ESPECIALLY when it is coupled up with some nice animation, those same people typically aren’t the same people that can truly appreciate the unique beauty of the inherent details of military strategy and war-related big picture stuff in the first place (i.e. they never liked that stuff anyway).
For people like me who really like that kind of stuff as I watch those kinds of videos here on RUclips almost everyday, whilst I do accept the fact that most people would never like this anyway (same reason as to why people don’t like words like geopolitics or military doctrines, I think…), and also whilst proclaiming that I can only speak for myself, the first meetings are actually pretty good and it was always these big-picture strategic moves that made me realize how great of a story slime is to the point that since season 1 lacks these kinds of scenes, I was almost about to drop slime until I heard that season 1 was rushed and skipped a lot of content like the one I want, which did lead me to try watching season 2, to which I’m glad I did.
That being said, if I were to be asked about things that they could have improved upon with the first episodes of Season 3, having more simple, easy-to-understand but well-detailed visual explanations couldn’t hurt. I mean, I never liked these things before too especially during history class (WHICH WAS FUCKING BORING), but remember those RUclips videos that I watch almost everyday now? I only watch them because somehow those channels turn extremely complicated stuff into simple stuff that an idiot like me had a change of heart.
With that being said, I think that despite people hating the previous meetings, the mere fact that they still choose to watch slime at all just goes to show how great of a story slime really is.
That ends my Ted Talk, hope you enjoyed it😂

I knew a little about the labyrinth plans after reading character information from season 2 and thought making some kind of dungeon amusement park was a complete waste of time. However, now in context it sounds like a brilliant way to solve several issues besides a source of income. Ramiris and her followers will get their wish to stay nearby, it sounds like a place Veldora can go to release his magicules without harming the environment, it provides a place to send the city population to during emergencies, and allows a safe place for the lycanthropes to stay temporarily. There are probably others benefits I don't even know about since I haven't read the manga/light novels, but am now excited to learn more about this arc.

What's different between "meetings" in cour 1 and 2 are the characters involved and the context. Cour 1 tried to have a serious tone : there was nothing funny and the characters involved weren't the comical kind, which can become boring if too repetitive. Cour 2 is completely different : 1st because we know those characters (except the elven empress) and their quirks are fun. Ramiris has always been on the idiotic kind of funny, while the Empress councelor has that overprotective side of him which allows some funny moments. Second because the overall tone is different too : we go from a serious, political and consequential context in cour 1, whereas in cour 2 it's more positive, amusing, with a great future ahead for Tempest.

Cour 1 was a little too focused on the one room and not many break-aways from it. Cour 1 could have been better with a few slice of life or training/sparring mixed in as they are talking tactics. Rather than just talking about one group of the army while in the room, they could have showed that part of the army running drills while being talked over.

  • @nathanmcclung3564
    @nathanmcclung3564 9 дней назад

Couldn't one say the change is due to the narrative as well. In the first few seasons tempest was an up and coming nation that was looked down on. From Clayman, to other nations, and even the clowns there was always some hug enemy and a lot of strife due to Tempest being underestimated. Not only that but Rimaru was not a demon lord either so to many Tempest was a nation set up for failure in their eyes knowing that some nations like the one with the church would just walk in and destroy them and that would be that. The biggest difference here is Rimaru is no longer the underdog but apart of the elite. He is well known now for his battle prowess and given he is a demon lord it is harder and harder for him to be disrespected like he was when he was only a slime. Even his enemies like the underground crime group is warry of making a bad move given rimaru's reputation where if this was in the beginning they would of just went in blind with not plan as rimaru would not be a threat in their eyes. Basically the longer the story the more the world has no choice but to have respect for rimaru to the point he can no longer just be seen as a simple obstacle that they could easily removed. Also can we a least recognize that for ramiris to do something like this especially given the history she has with rimaru is not a shock to the people of tempest. Yes she is a demon lord but no one cares. Milim and Ramiris are not just demon lords in the eyes of the people of tempest but friends not just to rimaru but also to a lot of the citizens so when they do something dumb it is not seen as out of the ordinary.

I want to kinda stay neutral about the production issues since its not my place to really say much about it. However, I will try to hopefully clarify some things in regards to them. Most of this is stuff that I heard about but haven't confirmed yet.
This time around 8Bit made 3 different shows simultaneously, whereas in previous years they could focus on only making one really good show at a time. The other 2 are action shows or so I've heard, so a lot of effort was put into the fight animation. 8Bit became a subsidiary of Bandai Namco, but I'm unsure if they were forced to make so many shows at the same time or if it was some internal thing. Eps 2-6 of Cour 1 were outsourced to other companies because 8bit was sadly too overworked, and Slime got put on life support while they made other shows. This is most likely why we're getting all 24 episodes straight; so they can focus all their effort into the second cour while the other two shows are taking a break. Of course I could be wrong on that since maybe the info from Reddit is just completely wrong. Wikipedia didn't have much to say about recent stuff so Reddit was my best option + I'm very lazy and didn't do thorough research.

  • @yevaud6
    @yevaud6 12 дней назад +1

I don't think it's the type of meeting, it's the approach in which they have the dialogue. These ones are active, you see more than one location. It should never be 30-90 minutes around a single table per group. Insighting incident happens, we discuss it for 3-5 minutes, move on to next topic. Don't have still frames, have things happening.
Since you can't really change the topics, I would suggest for military stuff they take an Aaron Sorkin approach. Watch any of his shows, (especially West Wing) you'll know what I mean. That's not to say you can't have a table episode, or that table episodes can't be interesting. For an fantastic example of something involving a single table watch 12 Angry Men. I'm just saying Slime hasn't cracked that code and they need to avoid that method of exposition dumping if they can.
This would probably mean changing those sections of the manga into anime orginal, and I'm ok with them trying out something different in that regard.

I definitely prefer the economic meetings over the battle tactics, but in my personal opinion, I think the biggest factor wasn't the topic but rather the animation/lack there of. If we could've seen diagrams of troops moving around while they were talking about the battle plans then I think it would've been much more fun to watch. Something like the meetings in Saga of Tanya the Evil for instance, a military show that displays tactics in an easy to digest way. Anyway, I'm a big Slime LN fan but this is an anime not book, so those meetings really needed to be animated instead of still frames where everybody had zero facial expressions. Just looking at Elmesia this episode, she had a lot of subtle facial expressions and moved around a lot in comparison to the characters form the first cour. I still enjoyed the first cour, but it could've been so much better. Of course, these are just my personal thoughts opinions, feel free to disagree with them.

Rameris is one of the most powerful beings in Tensura. She gave up a lot of her power to keep Milim and Guy from destroying the world. Not a spoiler. It was sped through earlier.

Yeah the meeting stuff was getting really inaccessable last 14 or so episodes. I really liked it because of my obsession with that style of anime. But I was getting really worried for the future of the show because they weren't offering any drama for people to get hooked on. Also I do agree that the meetings themselves are better. I like the colloseum and dungeon idea, but I thought some of the other stuff in core 1 felt a bit pointless like I think they lingered on the anti magic field too long.

Hmm.....Good question.....which is interesting, Combat and Tactics vs. Political Theatre and Social Structuring?
hmm......How about even a better one other that the follies of Ramiris, which is the comedy and tragedy
of Thalion??? What do you think?
Watching a greedy elf such as Thalion squirm for not only the favor of his daughter, but also taking advantage
over his own elven empress, taking all of all these liberties, and not thinking perhaps that the Empress herself,
is about to tear him a new one, and didn't think to share. Now that would have been a sight to see, and on top
of that is own daughter, not loving one bit of it at all.
However, as far as the comparison between battle and politics, I would say that it would fall upon the spectator
themselves. In my case, I don't mind either because of what each consists of. Also, keep in mind on how each is
being conveyed to the individual that is watching. Yes that both do follow the concept of both checkers and chess,
depending upon the board and the individual viewpoint, but how is the board being view from a op down perspective.
So you can either view it as some as linear as a table of contents, or toss the board and see where the pieces falls.
Otherwise, I love Slime, and I'm hoping that they do produce a Slime Diaries Season2.
    Until next time,
    Enjoy!!

The first course felt like it dragged and had filler because they wanted the Hinata episodes and events to occur when they did. It happened in season 2 when they had the recap episode(s) to set up S2E10-12. It worked better in S2 because it was only 1.5 episodes ish and the pay off was Falmuth finding out, they F'd up.
New True Demon Lord, a named Primordial Demon and Veldora was freed all in the name of making the world safer for Humans... Oh, and Hakuro cut off douche #1's head and caught it after getting the douche to use his thought acceleration. Then he through douche #1's head at douche #2...

Ramiris maybe a pest at times, but man she is too precious too be mad at for long, and her new labyrinth, along the force's she and veldora gather in it...... later on the blood bath that comes from them, will make clayman's ass clapping on multiple fronts look like a game of kinder-gardeners TAG by comparison !!!!!

I think the problem with the first part was cause it felt stiff and boring they could have done the same thing with part one and just actually had stuff going on even if it was new scenes that were from previous seasons in the flashbacks. Or showing the speculation rather than just saying it would have provided a difference

Lot's of big table episodes this season. It should leave the animation budget pretty fat for the latter episodes. I feel that these days of fun and amusement are to remind us that Rimuru and crew are fun guys even after killing 10,000 people and feeding their bodies to demons. It's working I guess, it's been pretty fun.

  • @icefang111
    @icefang111 12 дней назад

I think it's more the directing rather than topic. They could make the tactics as fun as they do the economics, and have in the past! I just really think they weren't as passionate about the last core and did it super stale (as someone who enjoys meetings)

Unlike the orc lord plot which had great moments like the oni but for a third of the season we had the show focus on one fight for way to long instead of making scenes with dynamic moves about a situation and having the fight be one two or at most three episodes

I mean, when you live so long despite being demon lord, it will be quite lonely for them to imagine you have act high mighty towards people it will make you get tired of these people being scared of you,
they still have emotions and thoughts.

I really have to disagree with your take on the meetings. I think the issue with the meetings is presentation. The new ones have characters moving around a lot more, being more expressive, more character-driven and less expository, more diversity of environments greater interaction with the environment and characters, among other things. It's the difference between characters sitting in chairs in largely the same two or three rooms telling each other stuff and characters moving around doing, showing and acting in a variety of interesting locations.
Adding to that there is the problem of the percentage of the meetings that is stuff we already know and the parts which are new and plot-progressing.

    • @AHBrandonReviews

ive talked about presentation before, even in this video, but the subject matter is completely different and said subject matter is the true culprit imo
