Hey Brian, I have watched a lot of your videos on SoundSwitch and have even engaged the SS Facebook group. I am new to it but not new to DMX light programming. I am a Denon DJ Prime 4 user using SS through the ethernet port to my MacBook Air. Now one thing that seems to be throwing me off is where my main library lives. I travel a lot so I tend to use an external USB drive with all of my music on it prepared from Engine Prime. I am not a Serato user or any other software DJ. My first go around with SS was I had everything plugged in corrrectly. The Denon was in hardware mode. I plugged my external USB into the MacBook and it took forever to load my library. I get it, i have tons of songs on there, it could just be a program issue. Once it loads it seems fine. I select a track and script it. Save it. Unplug my external USB and plug it into my Prime 4, load the profile and song and put SS into Perform mode. This worked successfully. I was recommended to load all my tracks to my Prime 4's internal drive. They said it would work faster and easier. So, in order to have SS recognize that library I had to put the Prime 4 into controller mode, bam, library is seen. I select a track. Save it, put everything back in perform mode and standalone mode for the Prime 4 and nothing. The lights did absolutely nothing at all. I would prefer to never have to have my entire library on the same computer that runs SS as its an SSD drive for performance only, not storage so it is a smaller drive. My external is 2 TB with tons of music. I am fine with that delay in loading the library but I am not sure if this product is for me yet. If I were to review it now based on how much trouble I have had... its awful. I am hoping I am missing something here and that someone can help me get on the right track. Matt Montgomery is your SoundSwitch library file stored on your computer or your hard drive? I’d recommend storing it wherever you keep your music, in your case on your external hard drive. Also if you haven’t approached the support team (support@soundswitch.com) they’re super helpful and ready to assist.
@@thedjbriansmith good question, I assume the SS library file is saved on the MacBook Air where the application is installed. I have opened currently 4 cases with support and only received 1 response so far and it was about DMX fixture profiles and not so much my experience so far with SS. Are you saying the SS library file must be with the music at all times? Because wouldn't that defeat the purpose of the DMX and Ethernet pass-thru on the devices? Just asking a question, rhetorical of course. Like I said previously, it worked ok when I was using the external USB but now I am trying to get the internal SSD on the Prime 4 to be usable with SS. Do I need to copy the SS library file to that drive too? I wish there was somewhere that mentioned this in detail because I feel like you might have nailed it as being the problem.
I dunno about this thing... I am about to throw in the towel here. I just scripted another song, Prime 4 internal SSD song, put in controller mode, loaded the song into SS. Scripted the heck out of it for a good 2 hours. Playback in SS fine..go to play in Prime 4, load the song, put SS in perform mode, no light response at all. Also when a color change affect has been triggered. Only 2 of the alike fixture respond. My 4 other non LED ring lights just stay white.
Ok so, again your SoundSwitch files need to be where your music is. If your SoundSwitch file is on your computer but your music isn’t duped from the hard drive there, then this is likely the problem. Give support time, it’s been a holiday week and they take time off just like the rest of us. Best practice is that your music is stored on the computer that is running SoundSwitch and this is how the majority of users run SoundSwitch. Are your autoloops functioning?
Brian Smith well then that means I would have to tell soundswitch the library is on the external drive. I will try that and see. Would I then be able to dupe the external drive to the prime 4 sad drive and have it also work there too?

Thx Brian, much appreciated. I think the greatest challenge is: where is what hidden inside the menu. I guess the company does not hand out manuals, right? So it is learning by doing and watching such good vids as this one. Something I am personally interested in: how can this software stear moving heads? Let´s say I have 2 at the front (right and left from my table) and 2 in the back of the room or at the side. The 2 beside the table should only hit the dance area within 90 degrees pan and tilt to the ceiling as well as the floor. The other 2 should act similar, maybe with a 180 degrees pan. If I set all 4 up by "sound" they just have a life of their own :-( and most annoying they hit the walls behind them.
Great question Peter! This is all possible, you can focus your lights and set their positions. I use edit mode to do this as soon as my lights are setup in a venue. I will work on a video for this!

Just purchased a pair of Chauvet Swarm Wash FXs and a Chauvet RGB FX laser, and I'm wanting to move beyond the auto/sound functions and it looks as if this is far more painless than trying to learn a traditional DMX setup. All I'm really looking to do for now is screw around with the lights to make the music I play in my garage cooler, I'm not really trying to be a DJ, just play some tunes with a cool light show. From your video I'm getting the impression I don't have to spend cash on a DJ controller, just the Soundswitch hardware, and I'll be able hook this up to my PC and download the software for the lights. I'm figuring I can use my Ipad Pro as well for the tunes. Please let me know if I'm on the right track.
How about changing the colors for each script? Do you have to redo the whole thing or can you choose from a color pallete? I DJ mostly weddings and sometimes my lighting has to match the event decor. Thanks for everything you do...your videos are great!!

question if you are doing the auto script, will it auto script multiple types of lights at the same time?
Mostly it will just script your master track. It may put in different colors on some fixtures such as moving heads to differentiate form the master track.
Its giving me hell very complicated or maybe I dont have patients cant find my fixture light is this another version of sound switch i only got the usb one with dmx
No it should be the same version. If a fixture you have isn'y listed the support team is awesome about getting your fixtures added support@soundswitch.com

Wilson Maldonado are you trying to import iTunes or Serato libraries?
I did autoscript on most of my tracks. Can I also auto script attributes (gobo effects) or that has to be manually. Also another question can I use this like traditional DMX lighting if another DJ wants to hire me to just do lighting? Im on my own computer with SoundSwitch and he's on his own DJing?
Hey JRod! Attributes such as gobos do need to be set manually. If another DJ is doing his thing you can use Ableton Link, check this video out ruclips.net/video/_udEdlyecGY/видео.html
Hey Bud quick question, is there an override to restrict pan and tilt of moving heads? For example can i keep the lights only in one location ?
Federico Ceja there is not a global override for position. You can set your positions, so if you only wanted your autoloop to point the heads in one spot you only put that position into the loop. The is also a pause lighting state option when using midi which will freeze your scene in one spot. Hopefully I’ll have a video about positions for moving heads this week!
