Any reason why you iron the outside of the garment instead of turning it inside out and ironing accordingly? It is MUCH easier to iron over seams and there is a much lower chance of an accidental burn showing.
Yes, the teflon shoe on the iron is protective. Plus, ironing on the right side of a garment is generally a better policy than ironing the reverse side. You can actually see the finished product. Cheers

You skipped how to iron the fold in the collar
you don't iron the fold in the collar - you just fold it - the stiffening in the collar eventually breaks if you iron it.
