Leon Atkins was born in Hardwood, Louisiana in July 14, 1938 and started playing guitar and harmonica at an early age. He had a lucky break one night at an upscale blues club. The famous blues artist Jimmy Reed was scheduled to perform that evening. Atkins knew Jimmy Reed’s music well from childhood, listening to jukebox music from a nearby nightclub. He had always wanted to see the real Jimmy Reed and thought he’d finally get the chance. Instead, Leon was asked to take Jimmy Reed’s place! As he recalls, Mr. Reed had obviously gotten drunk. “They snuck him out back and came and got me,” Leon remembers clearly. “Mr. Reed was just too drunk to play.” The crowd couldn’t tell the difference, and the show was a hit. Leon gave a show-stopping performance, and thus was born “Lil’ Jimmy Reed.”
I love this song, Honest I do....my dad always play guitar and my mom play harmonica... when i am toddler, cry and fussy ...they told me....once again i love this song
The Rolling Stones covered this song too,,from first albums as titled as just The Rolling Stones or Englands new hitmakers both released in 1964, the latter a US release a long with a few other treats from other great blues artists influences. If you not heard early Stones records then go check them out, you won’t be disappointed.
Great bluesman I’ve had the honour of meeting Leon on a few occasions as well as Bob and Hilary lovely people great musicians,,,thank you for the music keep up the great work and I hope to see you again in the near future best wishes from the UK
Jimmy Reed - Still sounds good! Age never interferes with a true singer’s voice/vocals!

PRETENDER IS A FAKE ONLY USING NAME NO RELATION TO THE REAL JIMMY REED
Many bluesmen of that era, got their names from other artist as a way to spotlight or launch their career. Some were great others were posers!.
That’s not Jimmy
No way i can listen awful
