Heartrate straps. Soft flasks vs hard flasks. Flames/fireworks at finish lines. Kettlebells. Arm sleeves. Gravel/dirt tracks. Wearing your watch during sleep. "Unproductive". Ok, I'll stop now.

Great video (and hilarious editing too). Agree with a lot, and here for Philly to become president of the pockets for women campaign. It’s needed (and not just in sports wear tbh!) Actually New Balance had a pretty decent pocket on a pair of their London Marathon shorts this year. Plus, it saves me having to TELL people I’ve run a marathon 😅 - which coincidentally should probably be on this list too. If you’ve done one, it’s the law. You HAVE to tell EVERYONE!

Love this video! 😂 However, UTMB has to be taken out of the bin. I finally qualified and ran Boston last year and switched to ultra 100 milers since then. I absolutely LOVE the adventure of these big and long trail races. You’re missing out on the adventure but if you’re already successful with road running then I get why you would want to stay there. For me, getting to UTMB is like my holy grail that ranks even above my prior desire to get to Boston. Reconsider… or I will get 1200 people to unfollow you. Hahaha! Totally kidding and totally love your stuff! 🎉

UTMB is a bin for me, as much as I’d love to do the route on my own, I’d never want to pay that company that much money.
I’ve not done it but fell for ‘holy grail’ and did 3 Ironman branded races. The 4th got covid cancelled and that brand has no morals. Don’t they own UTMB? They must be very rich now as deferal policies can get in the bin too 😂. I saw sense and went back to running and cycling to work! Im sure you will love it and big brands do bring a big atmosphere to a location. I’ve clearly just gone anti big brand and prefer low key trail events 😊

I generally don't take my phone running; in an otherwise stressful life when I'm running is the one time I don't want to be contacted, nor do I listen to music 99% of the time. As a relative newbie to the running world (only 2 years in) I work in km vs miles because I managed to get into running by using the couch to 5km app (which belongs in PB material). From there I took up parkrun (love the grind) and found strava (love the grind), I still run with my phone (hand held and kinda meh) because running watches are expensive and the choice a bit overwhelming but I think getting one will be PB material. Absolutely love the grind when it comes to my (I'm 29) medal wall (well it's not a wall, it's just one small hanger that I'm trying to fill) because as a newbie runner it motivates me to get better and to keep training.

I loved the vid and I agree with a lot.
But I have a different take on virtual races. I understand where you come from but I love them. I can’t go to races because I’m very easily sensory overloaded and I’m sick very often. With virtual races I can prepare for a race and then race it on my own, on a path I know, with no unfamiliar influences. And if I get sick on race day I can (that happens a lot) I can race two weeks later. I am only a very recreational runner though 😅
I also heard it helps a lot with motivation for people who want to become active. I have a friend who is overweight and had difficulties to stay motivated to walk. She signed up for a challenge where you have to walk or run 100 km in a month. And that motivates her to go for a walk everyday even if she doesn’t feel like it.
But I do think that it is more something for recreational runners then for athletes. And I don’t have to worry about those portable toilets, I can just go at home 🤣

I’m 58 and I wear Vibram five fingers every day. They are my everyday shoe. I feel they have definitely strengthened my calves and ankles and increased my stability. I love these shoes and are the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn. However, I do not run in these but they are definitely “Love the Grind” material. Bonus, these are a conversation starter and I’ve met so many interesting people because of my shoe choice. Don’t knock them till you try them!

I'm camp leggings (of various lengths) with deep-ish pockets where I can put my keys, phone and a 300ml water bottle in the summer (it gets 35C+ in the summer so it's a necessity even for shorter runs)

Love the videos ❤ where would you put the d/treadmill? 🤔😂
Agree with most apart from the hydration vest for long runs should be higher 👌.

Sadly the KT tape person is me - it is literally holding me together at times, and never mind the hydration vest, oh and the watch band tan, oh and ........ Not looking good for me!
But at least no phone shoulder holster....... (as my phone is in my hydration vest pocket!)
Love your commentary Phily - pity no post run beers (or 8, like tonight!) being listed though.

I always have my phone in a belt on race day and on long runs. Also have gels in my belt. That's the best way to carry them, better than in my shorts.

I’m 34 and have a random coat rack next to my bed (from former tenant), so I put my marathon medal and a cute necklace on it during pandemic bc I didn’t have any other decorations…and now it’s become a medal rack 😭 I’m giving myself the ick!! But at least my motive wasn’t “wow look at me,” it was more like “eh might as well make my bedside coat rack useful!”

I don't like to run with my phone simply because I don't like being disturbed while running, I have an old school iPod that its soul purpose is to play music, no odd recommendations, no notifications, no calls, just pure cadence material.... Drum & Bass works best lol

I love segments..i have made over 600 total in my local area which include local parkruns...normally anywhere from 400m to a mile...so on regular routes ill put in efforts etc...also about a quarter of them i have named after fellow local runners and running buddies..people love a bit of acknowledgement 🙂..Good tool for an old Goat like me approaching 60 to keep me motivated on runs....Great content as per normal 🙂

Janji make great lightweight shorts for women that have pockets. The normal ones have a nice size zip in the back that can even fit a phone and trail ones that have several pockets/spaces around the belt. Really good quality and an ethical company as well, so worth checking out!

Barefoot shoes are so good!! If you hate the look of the Vibram Five Fingers, there are several "normal" looking barefoot shoe brands like Vivobarefoot and Xero that make good looking runners. Altra and Topo also make excellent minimalist/not-quite-barefoot runners for people who are looking to transition to barefoot. Going fully barefoot style is definitely a slow and difficult transition though as the lack of cushioning and zero heel drop will place a LOT of demand on your calves that you won't be used to if you wear non-barefoot shoes routinely (which is everyone who doesn't specifically seek out barefoot style shoes). It takes months to work up to full time running in barefoot shoes, but the benefits to kinetic chain health are worth it in my opinion.

Can I suggest we all switch to "lightyears" for our unit for distance? Sounds so much cooler than both mile and meter combined. Although, milemeter does have a nice ring to it as well.
