Annapurna Base Camp - 7 Days in December 2017

- We did the ABC trek in late December 2017 (christmas time).
Although tecnically winter (December, January and February are regarded the winter months in Nepal) the weather was very warm and sunny, which is quite unsual for that time of year.
Generally in winter you should expect snow and spells of bad weather and pack accordingly. We did have gear for bad weather with us, even if we didn't use it. Having said that, although those months are colder there is usually less cloud coverage (blue skies) and it's also significantly less busy, which is very welcome as this is a very popular track.

This has inspired me to do this trek as well. Hopefully this year! Thanks for sharing this video.
Looks Good ! cant wait to explore myself this December (2019)...
Awesome video I can't choose between this and everast base for next year
Loved this fabulous film. Brought back great memories of my trek which was just a couple of months prior to this. Many thanks for sharing. Chris
Thanks Chris!
Thanks for sharing the Vlog. ABC is on my bucket list now
Nice video, thank you for making it descriptive, planning to go to abc this dec for 7 day trek as well.
great video, thanks for sharing
Nice work guys
Loved it
I did a bit longer 11 day ABC trekking in March 2019. All the tea houses at ABC have been destroyed by an avalanche! It was so sad to see it...too much snow.
A good one !
I am planning to go there this Oct, I may change my mind after watching your video. Thank you for sharing.
I am going in October. Not fixed any dates yet. Are you going alone? Have a look at Travel with Simon on here. Its a bit better with more information.
I went to Poon Hill last year for 4 days. Not difficult but you need to be fit.
Nice
Luv the video..I’ve been searching for videos of ABC trek & the full circuit trek that was done in December.urs came out..planning to go there this December..surprisingly the weather is clear n not that snowy..hopefully it would be the same this year
Thanks! The weather around that time is actually usually quite good, just make sure you have gear for snow just in case (it's the Himalayas, you never know). In case of bad weather/snow be careful just before and after Deurali (avalanche zones) and of course on the Thorong pass during the ciruit. Rest is easy!
Hi. I am also planning to do this trek between Dec 9-12, 2018. my start dates are flexible. I am planning to it independently with no guide or porter. Maybe we can go together?
What are you dates bro! I am going in this month too.
very nice presentation! i'll be there this december as well
Mark Rodel u better be there after winter on Mid March
Nice video .Wanna go this october , whoever come with me . 8-10day trekking ABC
Nice vid. I am going in Oct.
will see you there... :)
Amazing video. Is it required to bring a sleeping bag during that time. Also what sort of hiking shoes did you wear
Thanks! You definitely need a sleeping bag, the nights are very cold and the blankets provided are not enough (and not clean). You can buy or rent sleepings bags in Kathmandu or Pokhrara for quite cheap.
There are no particular prerequisites in terms of shoes, the footing is never challenging. They need to be confortable, have a relatively decent grip, and be a size too big (for going downhill). Other than that, you just need to figure out how confortable you are with possibly wet feet in case of snow :)
I was wearing a pair of Merrell Moab, which are rather light hiking shoes and they were mostly on the "too hot" side. But we also didn't get snow...
Did you bring your own gear or rent/buy from the local shops? I'm wondering if the fake down jackets and sleeping bags are good enough for a winter hike.
We did bring our own gear, but I had a look at the local cheap gear and it was fine in terms of warmth. There were also quite a few people on the hike who bought the gear there. Just the brand is fake, but it's still real down. However please keep in mind that cheap down is a guarantee for animal cruelty, it gets ripped out from live geese... Most of the real brands have a guarantee that the down is from dead animals.
nice video. I did it in Sep this year..it was cloudy and rainy but extremely green with waterfalls and flowers carpeting the floor. Two questions (a)How did u do the animation (b) what were the minimum temperatures from Deurali onwards?
We had really good weather so it wasn't too cold. I believe the coldest we had from Deurali onwards was around -5 degree C (at night). The animations were done with layers in After effects. Try searching for "parallax after effects", there should be quite a few tutorials around.
That was quite a jump in altitude on the day to MBC. Did you take Dex? Nice video.
Yes it was a bit of a jump and I was a bit worried. We didn't take any Dex, but keep in mind that 2 days before we were up Poon Hill, which is around 3200m, so we did have some acclimatization. We definitely felt the altitude the night on MBC though, but nothing too bad.
@@gochasethesun6772 I can see how that would help; ... the standard 10-11 days seems a bit long for ABC... so glad to see that its doable in a lot less time. Thanks for the info.
Total amount bro plzzzzz
Cost details
Is this over Christmas and New Years?
Yes
