  • The Stunning play ‘Everything That Rises’.
Galway based band The Stunning perform ‘Everything That Rises’ on ‘The Late Late Show’ from their new album ‘Once Around The World’.
The Stunning are Steve Wall (vocals, guitar), Joe Wall (bass, vocals), Cormac Dunne (drums), Derek Murray (guitar, keyboards, vocals), Jim Higgins (percussion, keyboards).
This episode of The Late Late Show was broadcast on 21 February 1992. The presenter is Gay Byrne.
‘The Late Late Show’ was intended to be a summer filler, but proved so successful with the public that it became part of the regular schedule. The idea for the programme came from the show’s producer, Tom McGrath, who wanted to present an Irish version of the American talk show ‘The Tonight Show’.
Gay Byrne was to be the show’s presenter and would remain so for the next thirty seven years. Tom McGrath’s original idea was that the show would be informal and have the feel of people dropping in for a chat.
‘The Late Late Show’ became an important forum for the airing and debating of many issues in a changing Irish society.
The first programme of ‘The Late Late Show’ was broadcast at 11.20 pm on 6 July 1962. At the time, it was unusual to have a live talk and entertainment show on so late in the day’s viewing. On that first show, the guests were Count Cyril McCormack, Ken Gray, George Desmond Hodnett and Harry Thuillier.
Tom McGrath would go on to pioneer many other successful variety shows on Irish television.
Pat Kenny replaced Gay Byrne as presenter in 1999 and remained in that position for 10 years. The programme is still running today and is presented by Ryan Tubridy.

This song is what introduced 15 year old me to the Stunning. 30 years later it still sounds great!

This is stunning good, that is a most excellent recording . I always want to be a hard-rocking guitar playing/ singer, songwriter star but the very great Phil Lynott got there before me, after seeing the might Thin Lizzy play over 25 times I know that I should not even start, I would not have got on the bottom rung of Phil rockstar leader so I am left is a million memories of seeing Thin Lizzy, Rory Gallagher and other great bands playing live and listing to their music

A great band that never really escaped Ireland. I never saw them live, but I caught The Walls a couple of times in Dublin!

Me too. In 2018 when the stage was bizarrely placed 4 miles from the audience.

Thought this was woeful back in the day .. on reflection, they played their own instruments, wrote their own songs, didn't rely on a video wall or light show and didn't use any technological trickery such as backing vocal tracks .. so fair play.
