- The O.C.’s Seth Cohen is an iconic heartthrob of the early 2000s. He was cute and awkward and always had a hilarious quip ready to go. But as the show celebrates the 20th anniversary of the end of its mega-hit first season, we can look back and realize that Seth was actually… wrong about a lot. His mindset hindered him in so many ways - but many of his faults were also what made him so relatable to many at the time. So let’s take a look back at Seth Cohen, what he got wrong about life, and why his growth was so important for him and us.

Thanks so much for watching! Up next, check out our video on why Marissa Cooper was more than just a 'poor little rich girl': ruclips.net/video/5Ka2Bo4P4Do/видео.html
I loved how close Seth and Ryan eventually became, not just as best friends, but adoptive brothers. Their bond was a treat to watch.
Seth donated blood to Ryan, that's how much love they had.
It’s completely realistic that a person that didn’t have any friends growing up would not know how to care and empathize with them due to lack of experience
I never quite bought Seth as a dork, since Adam Brody was clearly attractive and charismatic. I felt awful for how badly he treated Anna in favour of Summer.
I feel like the messy characters were why the show was so good. He definitely had many flaws, as mentioned in the video but that was what was so entertaining about the show! And Julie Cooper became one of my favorites by the end. Especially the interactions between Ryan and Julie 😂
I LOVE that he was such an imperfect character and the show (meaning the characters) actually called him out for it several times. He wasn‘t really framed as the perfect and lovable nerd who‘s always the victim. He kept making very obvious and realistic mistakes, especially for someone who spent his life being an outsider, and he often suffered consequences for his actions. If you think about it, he‘s a similar character to Ross from Friends or Leonard from The Big Bang Theory, but unlike them, Seth was held accountable for his actions, which allowed him to grow as a person
Yeah, he had his flaws and faults, but isn't that point of the show like The OC? They all started from one place as high schoolers and, by the end, they developed and matured and became better adults. That should be the point of a teen drama, some get lost in their plots and the "drama" part that they forget the "teen" part about growing up and maturing of the charachters. I'm glad The OC had both.
Seth used to whine aaaaaall the time to Ryan, it was something almost comical between them because of the abyss between the real tough life problems of one and the hipotetical and messy idealizations of the other. His sense of humor was so appealing for me back then, lol
Please do more analysis on the different characters of the show and/or a deep dive on the whole series!
Summer was so funny when she said what they had obviously didnt mean as much as what he had with Ryan or he wouldnt have left.
do more OC vids
Omg he was such a frustrating dumbass throughout the show especially when it came to his relationships. But as pointed out, we’ll everyone is kinda a dumbass when they’re 16 when it comes to relationships
I wasn't an avid watcher of the O.C. but would occasionally watch bits & pieces mostly to ogle Adam Brody. Can The Take do an episode about Xander from Buffy The Vampire Slayer? There is a problematic character if ever there was one!
I remember watching the first episode when it aired by accident and getting completely hooked and how I was always expecting Ryan to be this bad guy who did horrible things but always suprised with how it was nothing like that. And I was always expecting Seth to hate Ryan for invading him but no, that never happened. It was something new and refreshing, I loved The O.C.
Its nice to see a video about the OC that isn’t about Marissa
Anyone else think he really didn't get how to nurture baby comic book fans? Other than that, Seth is a favorite character of mine because he was always wrong. Except for fourth wall jokes. Also, he really did love Ryan was there for him when he could.
Great episode
I liked Anna so much!!!
I knew I related to Seth but watching this video i'm realizing how I am so much like him
can you do a deep dive on the incredible chemistry of Halbrand and Galadriel in Rings of Power, how the allure of darkness is tempted but they were also binded by a shared connection and humanity
Do NOT insult Death Cab ❤ "one guitar and a whole lot of complaining" is technically wrong but not completely wrong lol
Cmon Seth created ‘Chrismukkah’…..good enough for me😂
He was a teenager. So his character being problematic is not an issue, as longer as there is development. It would be a problem if he was a 30 year old behaving like a teenager.
This is a bit of a weird take that feels like it could be more nuanced. It's true that he put up walls and wasn't perfect, but it feels like not enough emphasis is placed on what caused many of his defensive behaviors. They seem to recognize the behaviors that hindered his ability to connect to others, but they fail to delve into the why of it, which was pretty obvious.
Do Blair from Gossip girl!
for every rewatch I dislike him more and more, he was extremely selfish and oftentimes childish and didn't take responsibility for so many of his decisions.. he also always talks about himself everytime he talks to Ryan and rarely listens.
I Remember being 13yo and disliking him because of his immaturity and i mean if a 13yo girl can recognize how immature and "nice guy vibes" you are you really have big issues 😅😂
@@areswalker5647 haha true! :D
Yeah🎉. Finally someone said it. I feel the same about him. I hate seth cohen sm
High school shows should have characters who get everything wrong. Or else what's the point?
Soy ese
Feel old yet?
The Stephen Crowder, heterosexual origin story.
Change my mind.
First! ☝🏾🥇
I could never understand anything he said
Of course we gotta ball bust every fictional male, the short runner knew when he was wrong plus people are flawed or else we'd just have Marry Sues & Jerry Stews.
Of course we gotta complain and be overly defensive about male characters while completely ignoring the many videos this channel makes critiquing female characters. They're just pointing out character flaws, it's a part of media analysis and critique. No one's saying write perfect characters
Such a cringey comment bro. Do you even know about this channel? Most of its videos are tearing apart the flaws of female characters.
Stupid movie
