@@jakedraper9101 Iva beating Hingis in the final was shocking. Imagine being part of a trivia question, Martina Hingis missed a Calendar Grand Slam at age 16 by 1 defeat. Who was that defeat too. Iva Majoli? Who the fuck is that.
I think the Seles that Hingis beat so many times was not the Seles of the early 90s. If she had faced that player, Hingis would have had the losing record. The following year, Seles absolutely thumped Hingis at RG in the semis.
I think that's true, but at the same time I think Seles' game was quite a straightforward all about hitting hard from the baseline, and the other players would have adapted to it over time. One of the great things about Martina was her variety and reading of the game. She figured out how to counter Seles pretty easy, never letting her settle into a pattern

Hingis is far more talented than Seles, but Seles far more powerful, the key factor here is fitness, if seles was fit , she would win the majority of matches in my opinion, she would over power Hingis, the stabbing was just terrible thing, Robbed us of so many Graf, Seles finals,
Hingis had trouble playing the shadow of Seles, a hard moving Seles that is struggling with self confidence and other issues. Hingis is even worse on grass, but she won because she had no competition whatsoever, playing Kournikova in Semis. I am glad that Majoli won here, otherwise we would've been hearing fairytales stories about her being like Graf and better than Seles and that stuff. Thank you Iva!
