Nice! Is it possible for me to use and share this footage on my youtube page? I share footage from all kind of activities on our ocean. Cargo ships in the 1960s till now, oil rigs, fishing vessels, etc. Of course full credit will be given to the owner of the footage. Looking forward to your reply. Kind regards. Cheers.
All the ships you see there have been sailing for decades, and now the upkeep and maintenance is too expensive to keep them running. Metal fatigue, systems, engines, machinery, etc all get too old to function and the ship gets sent to these places to get scrapped. Its like an old car with far too many miles on it.
marcus RBR; ships like this are detsroyed for few reasons, usualy becouse they are old and not worth it to keep them runing when companies are getting ships for alot cheaper and more eficant to run, second is they are prety well destroyedfrom waves and ice over all the years. also ships like this are scraped since its cheaper than repairs, for example is the old Algo north ship that was docked in my town for a few years and we helped tow it out of town, one of the engines were siezed and it would have costed alot more to replace the engine that the ship was even worth so they scraped it. its sad but thats how it works in the shipping buisness, its better to have the ship scraped than risking peoples lives working on a unsafe vessel.
Benny1581 Thunder Bay, ON. it was docked in town since i think it was about 2006? it was docked at the old Agricore United S elivator (also known as the old Pool 1) untill last year when Purvis marine purchased it and towed it to Sault Ste Marie, purvis sent the Anglian Lady to tow it, and we helped tow it out of the harbour using the Glenada and Point Valour. we are know docked at agricore in the same spot where the algonorth was docked.
Any idea what became of it after that? I've heard it was scrap metal but I haven't been able to track it down after it left here with a blown engine. (Im also in Tbay)
Benny1581 Purvis marine towed it to sault st marie, it was in process of being cut up in september 2013. i havent heard anything else about it, its considered old news now.
Sad to see these ships getting scrapped... I've vowed when I win the euro millions I'm gonna buy one n convert it into a nightclub /swingers gaff... Anyone up for a good night????
Yup, but it's what's on the inside that counts, ships like that look good, but structurally they're at the end years of waves and engine vibrations take their toll; failing that the owners may not have a use for her any more and cannot find a buyer :/ It's a shame I know but looks can be deceiving. How the fk do you know that? Just because you see some children in a video from a foreign country doesn't automatically mean that they are being exploited or abused!
This is what the Captain of the Costa Concordia is doing today!
I doubted he even qualifies for this job! He will most likely hit a lighthouse somewhere before he reach the scrapyard!

As one of The Gorthon relatives, this is sad to see what it became of The ships
They intentionally try to brush the side of an adjacent ship so the crews can use the one ship to board the other.
KlunkerRider An imprecise science at best😏
People think it's sad to see these ships being demo'd. How many are intentionally sank to collect Insurance?
