Ali shit talked Frazier so much and so hard that he became a pariah in the black community at the time, and he and his family had to be protected by the police because of it. It ruined their friendship as well. So Frazier was absolutely seething mad because of it, and Ali wasn't the same fighter he was in his prime. Ali won the first two rounds but was dominated the rest of the time, and obviously lost. He had said previously that he would crawl across the arena and call Frazier the greatest if he lost, which he did, but he refused to do what he promised because it was a "white man's decision", which just wasn't true. He lost fair and square. All in all the constant shit talk backfired, even as said by Frazier himself.
