I experimented with using a magnetic pickup. Unfortunately these are more like classical guitar strings and do not have enough metal to interact with magnetic pickups.
Hi, Thank you for the info so far, very helpful. I am ordering a box from CB Gitty, sourcing a bridgessaddle etc. Are you able to provide any more information on neck attachment and bracing that you mention in passing. As the box lid is 3mm, i would expect it to need support to carry the string tension? A sketch or photos would really help. Thank you Chris - England UK aspiring Box Bass player :-)
For the neck, I made a neck pocket with some blocks of wood at the end of the box. I did a few things for the bracing. I added strips of wood to the sides to give extra gluing surface area. Similar to adding kerfed lining to a traditional acoustic ukulele. I reinforced the corners with small square dowels. The top was braced with a large X pattern and and ladder brace under the bridge. The back had three ladder braces. I scrounged up a couple of extra pictures from the build. Email me at circuitsandstrings@gmail.com and I can send them to you.
cbgitty is really good for this kind of stuff. Sadly though they don't make humbuckers for ukuleles; I'm trying to make a Mini-SG for trying to write metal with a ukulele.
+Carrotttt yeah. An inexpensive 4 string humbucker would be sweet. Another website sells these, but they aren't cheap. www.almuse.co.uk/ukulele_pickups.html
Thanks for checking out my video. The body is this box. www.cbgitty.com/craft-parts-hardware/cigar-boxes/9-x-12-acoustic-wooden-box-kit-easy-to-assemble/ Along with that, I made the neck and fretboard. I also used bass tuning machines, La Bella bass ukulele strings, a nut, an acoustic bass bridge, screws to attach the neck, piezo rod pickup, endpin jack, and strap button.

Can anyone recommend me a good beginner uke that I can take around without worrying about breaking it? I am going to use it in place of my guitar when I travel, so I don't need professional quality. Just something comfortable and affordable. Thanks :)
+Kyler S The BugsGear aqulele is nice. It's plastic, so it's durable and waterproof. www.eleuke.com/#!product/prd1/1814567545/bugsgear-plastic-ukulele-aqulele-w--int%27l-shipping
+CircuitsAndStrings This looks good! Thanks. However I see that some people saying that it sounds dead, but in your video it sounds fine. What's your opinion on it?
still waiting for an axe bass uke!
Sir just wondering why don't use a magnetic pickup?

That's the exact site I found and considered, but 80(USD) bucks can get me a pretty nice pickup for an actual electric lol
Amazing. I cannot find these strings. Where can I purchase them online?

Great Bass do you have a part list for it ?

Fantastic thank you. Last thing is the neck straight through i.e. all the way front to back of the box
The neck stops about 3 inches into the body. Like a normal bolt-on neck.
Where can I buy this?
very nice did you hand make the fret board and bridge?
I made the fret board and purchased the bridge.
Where did the bridge come from if you care to share?
+666videlicetunus I got it on eBay.
